10. Yes, that's one of the reasons I enjoy The Finals.
9. Yes please. I really loved the main menu in Psychonauts 2.
8. Sadly I think that's pretty much dead because most big publishers have little interest in that.
7. Agreed though I think GTA scared most off from even trying. That and most of those franchises you showed are dead now. The new Mindseye game could be good though.
6. Sadly pretty much any AAA single player shooters are incredibly rare these days much less tactical ones.
5. I don't really miss it as they were bad 85% of the time (more if you take out Marvel and Star Wars. Quality over quantity imo.
4. I don't see this happening as indie devs sorta occupy this space now. You'll probably just see the occasional game licensed out to smaller devs like the new 2D Shinobi and Ninja Gaiden games are.
3. I think we're out of that era of experimentation sadly. New AAA/AA IP's have generally done pretty bad this generation.
2. RTS will come back when they stop focusing so much on PvP. The games are almost inherently hostile to new audiences.
1. Sure, why not.

Unreal Tournament footage was from UT'99 instead of UT'04. But the Redeemer is in every UT, so I'll give that detail a pass. Redeemer's still pretty balanced I think: only one spawns every x minutes, the missile itself is fairly slow and cumbersome and can be shot out of the sky. And if you alt-fire guide it (like in the clip) you're a sitting duck for the duration of the flight.
Unreal Tournament, as all sci-fi shooters of the era, offered powerful weapons and powerful defences. But I see hero shooters do the same thing nowadays, just more specialized per playstyle.
One of the nicest things about UT'99 at least was the customization options. There are one or two bots in the game that shipped with 100% accuracy and as a result are an absolute menace when they get their blocky hands on a sniper rifle. But you can just go to settings and alter that percentage. I believe you could even change their preferred weapons. Hell, you can change your own preferred weapons, so that (in my case) I don't switch to the sniper or biosludge when picking it up but do switch to the minigun.

I think GTA broke all the clones. They wanted to get out of the shadow of being a GTA clone so much that most of them ended up going in weird ways just to make themselves look different. That even one of my favorite series that wasn’t originally a GTA clone but turned into one. Driver, it was originally just a car chase game but then GTA came and of course they wanted to turn into a GTA clone. To their credit their formula was quite compatible with that format and they probably could’ve pulled it off if they did it right. Which they didn’t. In the end they ended up adding a supernatural power to their last game as a main plot device in a game about being an undercover cop disguised as a getaway driver they really jumped the shark there.

the big thing i miss from old games is unlockable content! killed off by downloadable content and microtransactions, i miss being able to find hidden weapons or do something cool (earn an achievement ) that unlocks new stages or characters/ weapons! if you just open your wallet and buy all the fancy weapons, whats the point of playing the game! back in the day you had to bust your ass to beat hard mode to unlock the instakill weapons! you would bring your friends over and show em what you unlocked and when they asked how you got that you could brag that you beat specific stage or whatever on hard mode! i used to love playing Time Splitters 2 just for that specific reason! i was always unlocking something new in that game!

For me stealth games a la Splinter Cell and Hitman and pure single player FPS with no RPG elements. I miss stealth games and we get so few of them these days. And I miss the days of playing pure FPS with no online component that didn't force RPG elements down my throat. I love RPG elements in games, but sometimes I just like to kick back and play a fun shooter and not have to think about where to invest ability points or what item to upgrade and don't want to read lines and lines of dialogue. We don't get many of these games anymore in the single player variety. Although we have gotten some classic Doom inspired games from smaller developers that I've enjoyed.

One thing i'd love to make a comeback is all the weird side modes and minigames you can play in a game. The madagascar game had minigolf and I looooooved that. These strange sidemodes were not necessarily the best (although sometimes they'd slap, but they were definitely a fun way to spend more time with the game, specifically with friends. The tomb raider reboot also had multiplayer at first, and no it wasn't ever fun with matchmaking, but with friends it was great fun.
Edit, another example is mortal kombat deception which had some kind of weird tetris thing. It was hella goofy but i loved every second of it.

I just want games to be fun again, and not brutally difficult. I swear since From Software games started getting more recognition, everyone has been trying to make games that are just crushingly hard but do a poor job of realizing what makes From Software games good. I’m so sick of so many carbon copies of the same layout with the same resting and enemy respawn with the somewhat tough NPC enemies, followed by ridiculously hard boss fights. I just want to turn on my console and have fun again.

The contrast between the era that gave us Saints Row, True Crime, Mafia, Sleeping Dogs, etc, and the one where it goes without saying that Rockstar will spend hundreds of millions of dollars to make a single GTA or Red Dead game makes me think we would do well to disregard a bit of visual fidelity if it came in trade for game depth. I'd love to explore some good sandbox worlds, and I'd probably love to try an array of them if it wasn't going to break both my own and the developers' bank to do so.

Worst trends in modern games: Open Worlds so big that you need a pointer to show the way and need to be, also its full of generics things that make a game a chore. The auto regenaration of health is easier to implement but boring and removes the tension/fun of shooters. The random generator of levels is also a nono for me. Yeah and physics is awsome in games. So open world games (not elden ring, health regenarations and random roguelites are off of my future buying plans.

I knew Rtses would come if not I would be dissipointed, but it’s ofcause not the same today at all, but it has done a minor little comeback with games as Age of empires 4, and soon an c&c sucessor Tempest Rising and maybe Stormgate might make it that is like a game made by former blizzard members, but unfortunatley, they released it’s early acces Way Way too early but we Can only hope they get an secund chance with patch 1, 0

I had so much fan and a lot of laughter with Sphinx and the cursed mummy and it was surprisingly challenging as well. There are a couple things that could be changed, it was too easy to fall off things for a start and there was one part of the game I kept getting stuck, it required a timed triple jump thing that I only managed once through sheer luck but I recon this game could do with a reboot.

I have 13 save files in Uncharted 2. All of which are complete, 6 on the hardest difficulty, and 1 file 100% completed.
- the graphics aren’t great
- the mechanics don’t work perfectly
- it’s missing co-op and multiplayer support
BUT IT WAS STILL GREAT. Publishers really don’t understand what players want. Or worse, they don’t care.

There are so many games in this video that are far better than the trash I see these days.
All the mechanics in these games were the best. The only reason why there are no more of these is because corpos are getting in the way, stagnating the gaming world and preventing the evolution that could arrive from them being more mainstream.

Games back in the 2000's has almost have the same concept bit the things is they are thinking of so many ways to make thier games unique. Unlike today games always be about skins and high level equipment just too brag on social media. Video games today is not about having fun its all bout bragging and fame specially on social media.

The thing I want back is actual fun and NFL superstars mode in Madden Games, where you can draft your created player from other games like NFL Street or NCAA Football. It promotes compatibility, invests you in the game, and it's better than the bland generic version EA is doing now. Even the franchise mode sucks.

I just want to stop putting deposits down on games, meaning, when the game comes out, I want it both in a timely manner, and to be COMEPLETE except for small bugs. I don’t want missing features, pay wall, dlc with the other half of the game, like how Ubisoft did with the avatar game.

the Destruction in Red Faction was top tier for me as a kid for some reason. I only played the campaign as a teen because I just went around seeing what I could demolish when I was a kid. My older cousins did the rest Great game overall but damn that destruction was amazing at the time.

Less popular opinion but less always online, less based around multiplayer, less season passes, every games does not need fishing, more solo content, stop releasing unfinished work, less copy paste games, less life sims, TXR 25 is the first game I’ve been hyped for in about 10-15 years.

Displaying Rainbow Six Vegas for point number 6 is a bad example, that game was already a huge departure from the original games and heavily casualized. Also challenging and hardcore tactical FPS are making a comeback these last years, the spiritual successor of SWAT 4 is Ready Or Not.

For #6, you have an indie thaty's bringing back the tactical SWAT formula. Ready or Not is a game that's been in development for years and VOID really know what they're doing. They just released an update that has full-on controller support, with no need for KBM controls.
