I feel like the margarite games thing actually does make a lot of sense. think about how mythically horrible the ET game was. they literally destroyed all of the cartidges and now no-one can historically go back and truly understand how bad it was and how it fits into gaming history.
I know it seems inconsequential, but games like big rigs could become cult hits like goat simulator or just simply exist for people to go back and laugh at how truly bad it is.
Regardless, I'd say its a genius first acquisition for a company that is set out to preserve games for future generations, and small but polarizing games like big rigs could be a great way to keep margarite in people's mouths so they have enough clout and capital to eventually possibly be the closest legit thing we can get to a true internet archive of gaming where any game mentioned can be accessed in an instant, much like how you can listen to hits from the 30s on spotify, apple apple music, or yt music.
Im hoping for the best!

Just a small correction: Ryza isn't on Atelier Yumia, it is on an entire separate trilogy of the same series (the series are full of games not related to each other but with similar themes and mechanics. The weird thigh commentary of the director is because people were kinda asking about Yumia's (the new character of the new Atelier trilogy) design not being as thicc as the previous MC, Ryza, and he responded with that gem of a quote.
Essentially he is saying that Ryza was thicc because of the Japan recession, and Yumia isn't because Japan is fine now economic-wise. it is pretty weird, but it may be related more to the series itself (since Ryza was the kinda a last resort for the developers, and it was a massive success, specially since it is a niche know series within a niche genre.

I've been using GF for over a decade, & I have never paid for shipping. Not only that, but if you want to keep a game, it's much cheaper than any store, and the longer you have a subscription, the games you keep, or buy, you get your games cheaper!
Plus, they have coupons you can use too.
Considering the cost of new games, it's a great way to get new games without shelling out a C-note.
Btw, when you keep the game, they send the case, AND any dlc, or any other stuff that came with the 'special' version.
It's a great deal, & if you don't like the game, just pop it in the mail & you'll have the next game on your list within 2-3 days!

I was shocked when I actually recognized the blurred out name in the thumbnail.
One reviewer once said of Big Rigs, It is as bad as your mind will allow you to comprehend.
It's not just the game that was broken either. When it first came out, I went to the website. The sidebar menu links didn't work. I took a look at the HTML to figure out why, and it was so horribly, brokenly written. The person who wrote it had absolutely no idea what they were doing.
If you understand HTML, the tags were on the _outside_ of the tags (This was back in the days when table layout was used for everything, because no browsers supported CSS yet)

I was actually expecting the Dying Light bundle to sell wow. It had a visit of the studios included, plus I was expecting the buyer to turn the survivor shelter that gets built into a tourist horror/Dying Light attraction and try turn a profit. Was honestly expecting either a whale or business person who likes horror and Dying Light. Allthough a whale would see zombie survival shelter and probably noo be interested, pretty sure if they remove the survival shelter and keep the studio visit it'll sell for a reasonable whale price.

The tencent bit is so Ubisoft doesnt have to sell their IPs cause this is a separate group but has their flag ship IPs this is 1 of 2 things
1) preparing for Ubisoft to being sold
2) preparing to be sold.
Idk legal stuff but from what I'm looking at with Ubisoft giving this splinter group their flag ship IPs and having tencent a percentage of the pie they are unable to sell or close cause of their backers however NOW tencent have their finger in the pie. Again I'm not an expert but that what it looks like to me

GEO Japan, a game/video rental shop has also recently gained attention for selling dirt cheap roomwear that’s apparently very comfortable.
I hear they went above and beyond to manage logistics and make sure it’s cheap.
It ended up selling like crazy.
The idea was to create a better home experience, so they might want to rent out entertainment or something like that.
They indeed are insane, and seemingly have some very capable people.

Ryza is the main character in Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy and Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key (and is a playable character in Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy & the Polar Night Liberator. However she does not make an appearance in Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land. Just so we are clear on that.

I'm pissed that our local Family Video shut down. I absolutely think renting games is far superior to buying them. If I like it and wanna continue after seven days. I'll buy it. Otherwise a single player could be smashed out in a week and rarely will I ever play it again. If or when I do, it could be heavily discounted by then. I've wasted too much money on games I could've rented and easily found out they're trash.

Sakurai is right, though. People in the west who love Japanese games love Japanese games because of the things that are unique to Japanese games. Americanising them takes the things we love about them out of them, so there is a lot less reason to be interested in them. Keep the anime, keep the Japanese culture references, keep the sometimes weird and uncomfortable fanservice!

I agree Japanese games do not need to be westernized. I play for the craziness, take that away and it's just another rpg. Akiba's Trip is one of my favorites. Where else do you defeat your enemies by stealing their clothes

I’ve seen a lot of people saying the Tencent/Ubi deal just means that Ubi is getting 1. 25B and Ten is only getting a return on investment in the future. Ha! Believe that if you want too. No one hands over 1. 25 B to anyone and doesn’t get anything in return. Tencent will be doing what they deem necessary to make Ubi profitable again, especially for Ten.

SNK is currently owned by the same Saudi group that owns the football club CR7 plays for, so that is likely part of the reason. Also, my friends who are into this franchise tell me that the Latin American market has kept this game in the fighting game community over the years, so having a footballer isn’t a bad thing.

I agree with the japanese games story. Yep keep the quirkiness and unique things about japanese developed games, if they didnt or hadnt we would not have got games like katamari games, okami, godhand, the resi and silent hill series plus the yakuza series! They are distinctly japanese! Keep it thar way!

It's both good, and terrible (because it means I'm old, I'm old enough to recall when you could rent a game console, and games, from the local video store. Of course, then it wasn't as cheap as the Japanese one. I used to regularly rent the PS1 from a chain called Civic Video, int eh mid and late 90s.

You mean 2 players finished the secret level in Split Fiction, right Because the game requires 2 players to even play it, so it couldn't have been only 1 player who had finished it. Unless that on player was playing both characters, which would be the weirder and more news worthy story.

Sonic Unleashed being unofficially ported to PC, while simultaneously creating open-source tools for de/recompiling other Xbox 360 games for unofficial PC ports, is actually the craziest thing I've seen from this community! But also one of the MOST ambitious! Major respect to 'em!

huh, i didn't know Ryza was in Atelier Yumia, i wonder why people are talking about her now instead of when her game actually came out, though idk, maybe there were talks about her hips back then too, I only tangentially know about the Atelier series.

Still remember when Big Rigs came out way back in 2003, my brother was so excited to play. And after a couple of hours, he smashed the keyboard so hard it broke and all the keys fell off. We had to replace it with a new one. Ahh. Nostalgia!
