It's supposed to be PvEvP, but most treat it like PvPvE. So anyone looking for a new experience, like teaming up to take down the larger ARC, will likely get chewed up by a classic PvP scenario where others are just looking to take out players. So basically, it's up to the players to have a new experience with the tools that are available. This, of course, can be trounced by people who don't care and just want PvP and/or keep the chat muted. If you'd like an example of how terrible people can be even when they have a common enemy (like every apocalypse fiction we've ever had, and instead of bounding together for survival against a common threat, people would rather fight each other - this is perfect. We can't even bound together in a fantasy, how much more screwed are we in reality The lore of the game literally has everyone coming from the same underground outpost, all looking for supplies for the same colony - yet people focus as though this a mainly PvP game. Why have lore Why have communication Why turn this into any other PvP experience when it has the potential for so much more The mechanics are there, it's up to players to choose what they do. I suppose, in the end, that's the problem. There's no human race, just individuals looking out for the self.

The ARC being strong, borderline OP, is intentional. ARC is meant to be the primary enemy of the game, it has been the design philosophy from the start. They defeated the human race and sent them in to hiding, if the ARCs were weak, that lore wouldn't make any sense. They also aren't really bullet sponges if you aim for their weak parts. Thrusters, joints, legs. But it also depends on what type of enemy. If it's a Hornet looking at you and you're trying to shoot its front thrusters, you're gonna lose, because it has armor on the front side of their front thrusters. People confuse Hornets and Wasps and get annoyed when they take a different amount of bullets, not realising they are different enemies. Rocketeers, Bastions and Leapers are basically mini-bosses that requires you to have the correct tools to fight it. If you don't, you're better off avoiding it. It's the need to adapt to each enemy that makes it so unique. You need to be able to make the decisions on when to engage and when to avoid.

I started off playing with friends. Loved it. Then I went into solos with the intent to not go in with much and just do quests. I have befriended way more people than been intentionally killed while playing solos. Befriending or diffusing ongoing situations with other teams in squads can happen, but it's a lot more of a dice roll. Solos, most people are just trying to do a quest, or just want to farm ARC parts or find certain loot. It's been very fun for me. Sometimes I even bring in extra meds with the purpose of running towards another playing who is dealing with ARC to help them and heal them. HOWEVER, the matchmaking is apparently gear-based, so this is what I have experienced being in low-tier gear queues as a solo. I'm sure there will be more shoot-on-sight mentality when most people on the map are bringing in purple weaponry.

The game's player-versus-player (PVP) aspect is average due to bots, while the extraction mechanics are great. However, the player-versus-environment (PVE) experience lacks depth. PVE players want to loot and level up their weapons, desiring to keep their upgraded gear as a reward for their efforts.
In contrast, PVP and extraction players thrive on defeating opponents and taking their loot, so their needs are already met. Arguments against allowing players to keep upgraded weapons should be disregarded, as the intensity of losing loot that has been picked up is the same regardless. As done in Division, the Grand Daddy of PVPVE extraction.
Developers should focus on creating a compelling PVPVE extraction experience, and permitting PVE players to retain upgrades is vital for this.

my opinion of the game as someone who doesnt play extraction shooters is that it looks beautiful and full of life with the arc robots and players who you dont know are good or bad. i think going out and looting what you can and returning is fun for the first few times but now im left asking myself what else and what is this for now. yes you can upgrade your weapons and buy new weapons but theres no sense of accomplishment as you just lose it all anyway if you decide to take it in with you. and the quests i havent done much of but seriously they suck. looting random items or killing different arc isnt questing its just fetching random stuff. Im left asking myself what more does this game have to offer and yes im happy i bourght it for $60 AUD.

Be careful with this game. Despite it definitely being a good game in its genre, you have to know what it is very repetitive. And the gameloop is not great, especially if you play solo. 34 hours after the start you will find yourself looting the same areas in hopes of an epic drop. Crafting the next better set of weapons and gadgets and proceeding to loot the same areas again, to change the map after a couple of hours and continue the cycle. The gameplay is average at best and, like previously stated, you have to enjoy the gamble a lot to have a good experience. Sad, it wasn't pointed out in the review. If you don't enjoy extraction shooters, you will definitely not enjoy this one.

When they announced it it was going to be pve only, i really loved it but the pvp extraction shooter kinda ruins it for me. I'm 35, i barely game anymore and i'm just not as spry as i was in my teens. Plus i don't have a friendgroup to play online with so in reality i'm just going to get blasted by kids who play this game every waking hour of their free time.
Never was a fan of pvp really, liked it in planetside 2 because you were a cog in a larger whole but squad and team based shooters just aren't for me. Hope you guys play it because the graphics, concept and artstyle really look good. The developers deserve some love.

The sound design might be the best ive heard inna game. It really immersed me into the world. The added echo to other players further away is awesome. The environments are sooo well done and the devs are there if you have any issues. I went to their discord to complain about the toggle to sprint not shutting off and itll stop you from crouching or interacting unyil you ptess L3 again to shut it off. The devs messaged me right back with a fix. Just changing your L3 deadzone to 5 will stop this bug from happening. And it was one of the real devs who messaged me back. Pretty awesome!

Just want to say to those wondering or who didn't know! This game is built on a HEAVILY modified Unreal Engine because the devs know what they are doing, and they are not using the default Lumen or Nanite, if they are even using it at all. That is why the game looks amazing and runs great! Don't credit Unreal Engine for this games visuals, Embark is all the talent here!

There is a free load-out option. It’s at the top of the screen when you’re picking your inventory before you go top side. It gives you the very basic inventory usually and it’s random. It’s enough to survive. I use it when I’m doing an easy quest and I don’t want to lose my stuff.

It shouldn't live up to the hype, yet somehow it does. It's also fascinating how small tweaks in gameplay design radically change how players interact. I play the Marathon alpha for over 30 hours - not one friendly encounter (not a bad thing, per se. Queueing solo, almost all of my encounters are cooperative in ARC.

I was super excited for this game when it was first announced, then they changed directions and turned it into an extraction shooter. I'm really disappointed, but happy for the people that enjoy this type of game. Hope it continues to do well; solid games of any type are few and far between these days.

This game has a content problem. Since its being compared to Tarkov, let's do it. People are commenting that their are finished with MSQ in 40 Hours. There is NO way this is possible in Tarkov. Tarkov is such a more refined game that's been out for soon 11 years. This is a fun casual shoot

Nice, crisp clean graphics. Looks different than anything I ever saw. Nice and quite realistic animation. Dude is actually picking guns. All together looks quite realistic. Simple doesn't mean bad - look at football, Tetris or chess - simple can be great - the best.

Met a guy in the field, we both shounting don't shoot at each other. When reaching him, he drew his shotgun an blew me into pieces. There are heavily brain damaged people like this, ruining any logic, killing for nothing. They are real. And they are out there.

Embark should implement some kind of a pairing system during Runs. You send like an invite to another solo player, he accepts it(or not, you pair up with him, and the game immediately disables friendly fire between the two of you. No more betrayals

What I don't understand about the extraction shooter genre - once you get a decent loadout, what's the point of playing The main goal is to loot stuff and get yourself a good loadout, but then what What is supposed to be my motivation for playing the game

I have played for over 10 hours now, and almost ALL my interactions with other raiders have been friendly, and even ended up teaming up and extracting together. This and Battlefield 6 have been taking up LOTS of my time recently and I am not complaining!
