As someone who has no experience with Marathon lore or extraction shooters, I picked this one up because a couple of my friends play it and they wanted a third guy and so I said sure why not. Even though I fully expect it to turn into another Bungie hellscape in the future, if $40 gets me a fews hours of fun a week with the homies, it's worth it. The biggest complaints (other than wailing on Bungie) I've seen have been about the UI. It's not my favorite, but the menus really don't bother me at all and I still have fun

I have 7 hours into the game and I’ve only fought PVP in 2 games. But then if you play solo, it’s nothing but a sweat fest. Character designs suck, weapons design sucks, loot is complicated even after 7 hours, ttk is horrific, guns shoot well which 90% of the shooters are good anyway. If this was F2P. It would be awesome but I wouldn’t pay for cosmetics because the character designs are that bad. Glad you had fun, but with Crimson Desert coming out, RE9 out, Arc is outI just can’t get behind this.

Copy & pasted Destiny gunplay in a PVP only game with no story, contrasty fisher price style, 'generic tech symbols' slapped on everything without reason, and a 'trust us bro, it gets better with time' attitude. Hard Pass. Don't get me wrong, I do like the Halo/Destiny gunplay, even if some of the animations are literally the same with a new skin. But good shooting alone isn't enough for me, especially when it's shooting I've already done for thousands of hours.

Another extremely stylish-looking extraction shooter I will not play. I though Arc Raiders would pull me in, but it only made me depressed that such a great art style was wasted on the most frustrating and uninteresting genres out there. I simply don't have enough time to play these types of games for the amount of time it's required to get good at them. I hope that well-crafted and great-looking single player narrative FPS games will return at some point.

Played it yesterday for the first time, so early impression: It's a nice game, gunplay feels good, AI-Bots seem like actual opponents for once. I just feel like it's missing something to make it unique, to make it stand out amongst competitors. I like it, but apart from the visuals, which play only a minor role for me, it's just your run of the mill extraction shooter. Hope it evolves into something unique enough to survive long term.

In a market oversaturated with extraction shooters, bungie swoops in late to the game, with an old IP beloved by many for its rabbit-hole levels of lore and fun doom-clonesq gameplay, now bastardized into a PVPVE mess. You almost have to applaud the effort of alienating the faithful player base, who eagerly awaited some kind of story driven singleplayer game set in this universe.
But get that bag Stimpee, I guess.

I'm so done with live service. The only live service game I'm still playing is Genshin, and I've been slacking on that as well. I'm not able to keep up with the powercreep, so I'm mostly just playing for the story and to experience some fun new characters. But I'm not dumping nearly as many time into it as I used to because I've been playing so many other great games

idk why but everything aside the gameplay (which thankfully is the most important part) feels very. indie (or low budget. Part of me questions where all the budget is going so fingers crossed for the people who bought this game Bungie is actually trading upfront content for consistent content drops

Thr u. i is all over the place. What arc raiders do is perfect they give you alot of stuff but they dont overwhelm you with different pointless shit.
Arc raiders gets to the point to keep you going.
Marathon just has too much going on too much work. You can tell this is made for pc

This game might be Bungie’s last. They’ve only been losing money for Sony, who realize now that they were ripped off during that acquisition. Bungie spent too much money on a genre that has a niche audience. If you love this game you’d better spend a ton on mtx or Bungie is in real danger.

In all fairness to the game, it's good. But, extraction style pvp isn't for me, and that's ok. For those gamers who love this style, I love that for them. With that said, I think I had more fun with Arc Raiders, but the gunplay in Marathon feels great. Best wishes to Marathon and Bungie.

I’m 42. I played all the original PC games back in the Doom, Quake, Hexen, C&C, Duke 3D etc. era of FPS games. I say that to say thisHow are these graphics acceptable in 2026 Goodbye Bungie, we knew theee well. I’m not here for Lego level world design, and shallow gameplay.
reply

This game is really not worth your money. It's just an average extraction shooter that gives you nothing interesting but charges of $40 price tag. When you can get arc raiders for $40 which is is way more worth the $4 then Marathon and plus the fact that this game is going to die

This is completely subjective, but the color palette and art design of this game actively repulse me. If I ever give it a shot the first thing I’m gunna have to do is desaturate the hell out of it. Bungie’s shooting is always peak though, so maybe it will go the distance.

people saying it sould have been a single player game. no. the game has a long story and the pvpve its not suppose to be a roadblock but a world building tool, you are not alone you are not safe. if they got rid of that the game would feel empty

11: 13 is he legally not allowed to tell us he doesn’t like a game This feels heavily bought and paid for. His final thoughts are we don’t know how you guys will like this. We don’t know how much fun it is. Bro THAT IS YOUR ONLY JOB
reply

My concern was loot dispersion. In Arc all items are located on the map. Removing any real incentive for the modifiers.
Main One - Incentive to work together
Only way it was competiting with Arcs sudden mainstream appeal.

One thing that Bungie has always delivered on is their brand of gunplay and pacing. Very halo in that regard, not putting a big emphasis on movement or twitch reactions, mostly positional and smart usage of your abilities.
