It seems like you're not grasping the revolution the BMCC has created. IT SHOOTS 2. 5K RAW FOR $3000. That is the cost of your MKIII.
13 STOPS OF DYNAMIC RAGE! $3000! So much color/shadow information its mind blowing! The RAW files are huge and backup and ssd adds a lot to the up keep of the camera, but it shoots Pro Res HQ too, & it shoots it beautifully! Pro Res HQ is like an hour on the 240 gb.
& GUYS IT COMES WITH FREAKIN' RESOLVE. BEST COLOR GRADING PROGRAM. Guys, the BMCC is a crazy beast.

i need help finding a good camera for under $250 i know there are a lot but i also need a microphone jack, so that really makes my options small, but i came across 4 that i like, the Kodak PlayTouch, the Vado HD 3rd gen, the Toshiba Camileo X400 Camcorder, and the PANASONIC HM-TA20. that last one i am not even sure if it has a mic input, i asked on yahoo answers and they said no, but i found a site that says yes so idk i would get the camileo cus of its features but you cant turn off auto focus

It's a bit insulting to compare 2, 5K RAW footage space requirement with compressed HD one. Yes, RAW handeling will cost more in post-production gear like NSA or any other storage solutions but exactly for that reason the SSD drivers will become more avalibale with greater capacity as the demand rises and the technology allows to provide affordable solution. Hence the NSA soltions will benefit as well. But the comparison between RAW and compressed flipped my lid. Cheers!

The BlackMagic is roughly the same price as a 5D MkII & D800, I think it would be hard to upgrade to to one of these DSLR's if your primary focus is video. The one thing that I don't like about the BlackMagic is it only goes to 30p at this time. As discussed at NAB the guy said they are just going to get the camera out first, I foresee a firmware update in the near future which may make higher frame rates possible.

the blackmagic may not use a full frame, but so dont the gh2 the 7d, 60d and many other dslr cameras, although they still look just as good as the 5d, tbh RAW video has so many pros compared with heavily compressed video that for the price you would be mad to buy a full frame just for the full frame, considering its so heavily compressed.

BMD camera holds 30 minutes in 240 GB in RAW, but it also shoots Prores and DnxHD (thats 1080p 4: 2: 2 10 bit in flat film curve. With a less expensive 64 Gb ssd drive you can shoot a decent time, and WAY better than h. 264. If I get this camera, I will probably never use RAW (I don't have storage for that yet, except for some FX shots.

Happy Labor Day!
Why does Griffin call it 2. 4K? Isn't the Blackmagic cam 2. 5K! As I understand it, the sensor is about 2500 pixels wide, but the video files only make use of 2400, so the files are 2. 4K.
Also, if you listen very carefully, you can hear my neighbor mowing his lawn under my voice.

I could never get these to run back then and still today trying out on my DSLR, I can't get these to work. I have the. RAW movie files from my Black Magic DSLR camera, but there is nothing I can do. I don't know how to edit or view. It would be great if someone could explain what to do.

Photocanon, we have had the opportunity to shoot with the RED ONE when our director could check it out from his film school, and having worked with RAW before is one of the main reasons we grabbed the black magic. Dynamic range and no rolling shutter helped with the decision as well.

You're right; it's definitely not required to make a great film! Interesting to learn about, though, as many professionals use RAW, and it's beginning to become accessible at lower price points. Maybe someday all our cell phones will shoot RAW!

Griffin have you looked at the Bolex Digital D16 Camera that is coming out? It's very similar to the BMCC, but I think it's better. You should look it up and talk about it in your show! I'd like to hear what you have to say about it.

I'd really love to have a Black Magic for my green screen filming, but share your affordability issues. Can anyone recommend a good camera for green screen? I'm tired of DV tapes and the 7D compresses the video to much. Thanks.

. That makes no sense. You can crop on any size sensor. The sensor size has nothing to do with resolution in the way that you are thinking. You can crop a 4/3rds sensor the same as a full-frame 35mm, or 70mm for that matter.

Do you know who I can contact re: raw file views and video view count not matching (4 vs 0, for ex) and 2 of the 4 views being made somehow on a private practice video that was never shared, never public? Thx

That'd be annoying not to be able to turn off autofocus, but I imagine you can't be too picky in that price range. Sounds like you've done your research, so you're more knowledgable than I am on the subject.

Check out the Canon T4i (and the T3i and T2i for that matter. Under $1, 000, you could alternatively get a Panasonic GH2 or Canon 60D (body-only, but you'd probably go over your limit with a decent lens.

They're looking to make films, not take photos. Whey the hell are you recommending a DSLR that shoots crumby video, and not a dedicated video camera? Jeez, you're supposed to be helpful.

when you buy a camera watch out for a mic input! i bought a nikon d3100 and didnt knew that it doesnt have a mic input which is pretty bad because the internal mic is more than bad.

Is the da vinci resolve only for the Black Cinema Camera or could I use it on my camcorder? I've been trying to find a free and good color grading software for awhile now.
