Does Your Camera Need a Motion Control Device? edelkrone dollyONE

we'll look at how easy it is to setup and the quality of the shots Christophe: yeah fun toy but overall impractical, the wheels themselves makes this a very niche item where you need a super slick and smooth surface to work with. you can't take it outdoor unless you bring whatever you need to have a flat surface and such. so why bother with that when you can bring your tripod, motorized slider and use it anywhere in any condition?
oh also the price tag makes this even less appealing, almost the price of a Syrp Genie II which is not a gimmicky product. so yeah fun toy, that is all

The DollyOne has potential if you could control it with the app with programmable motions like making a circle or arch with variable amounts.
I think it is overpriced in my opinion!
It needs a smooth surface, using it outside I wish you tried Posterboard, It's lightweight, easy to carry if you roll it up. This is just a thought or 2mm PVA foam or rolled corkboard as a surface would still be much lighter than a traditional slider!

Great video! Very interesting product. May I suggest (at least for smaller distances needed to be covered, going to a flooring business and asking for a small reminant of vinyl linoleum flooring. I think a 3 to 4 foot area of such material could be rolled up and easily taken on a shoot.

Hi. I'm wondering if you still have this around to test and, if so, have you tried running it over the smooth side of a yoga mat? It should be portable enough to bring with you to a shoot but I don't know how well it would take the weight of the DollyONE with a camera on it.

Neat.
But that's the problem with these big brand names:
They introduce something cool, but then slap on an expensive price tag to keep most of us from buying it.
There's not a lot to this, could probably DYI something for cheaper.

Is this a sponsored review? And FYI viewers: Edelkrone controls product reviews, because you can only get their premiere gear from them, so be weary. That's a red flag in my book. You can't guarantee the testimonials are 100% uninfluenced.

I was gonna say that $700 for the set is too much. Turns out it's just for the base?
I liked the concept but I don't believe it delivers enough to justify the price. I'd pay $200 tops just for the dolly base with those results.

how much better is the 150 flex tilt head than its $20-30 counter parts? even if the off brands need tightened each time its moved, that would be worth the savings if you arent in a rush. if the off brands CAN be tightened that is
reply

Can the motion control repeat its movement over and over? would like to know if it's a viable option for FX shots. Can I do a number of accurate repeated movement passes with the head, not the dolly?
reply

Obviously this has to operate on a smooth surface. how could you not have foreseen that? You can use a $5 piece of scrap laminated countertop; problem solved.
Now, what to do about the ridiculous price?

reply

Hey Griffin,
Would it be possible to bring some kind of smooth, rollable surface with you to help even out street bumps? Or would the underlying bumps still make the footage too jittery?
Thanks!

reply

This was clearly designed to be used indoors. Much too limiting when brought outdoors. All the suggestions on how to improve its performance outdoors make it sound too impractical.
reply

Does it detect the edge of a surface? How good is it's repeatability? What is a type of shot that you could get with the dolly and the pan head? These questions i would like to know.

I am a big fan of Elderkrone, their app, and own their Elderkrone SliderOne v2. The only issue I have is having to restart the app to pair after brief re-use.
reply

can you show us a setup using the pan tilt and slider 1 v2 at the same time then add the turn table ( i know you need a second device to control the turn table
reply

Edelkrone is one of the most innovative companies out there for filmmakers. I have yet to see a bad product from them, they're very consistent with their quality!

Nice to see a review of this device Griffin. Personally, I think its rather expensive. But Id love for you to review follow focus systems for the GH5/GH5s.
reply

You didnt tell, when using in interview mode, if you can make it go back-forward in a infinite loop. and what the comparison between their mini dolly. Thx!

I always carry a 4 foot long polished wooden plank with me everywhere. Up until now I haven't had any actual need for it but I spy an opportunity.

i miss the old indy mogul where you made everything on a low budget. now most of your vids are look at this expensive thing! Isn't it awesome?
