I do have a question about the editing equipment but for post production rather then on the fly. Anyways my question is do you think it's good to know Avid know a day, say you wanted to go into movie making, its seem like final cut and premier are taking over the industry and I was taught Avid Media Composser in college. I love the programs color correction and it has a lot of effects, but it doesn't seem like anyone really need an Avid editor anymore.

Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed watching this. I'm in the CommTech class at school, and we do all the jobs that you showed in the video. Most of our equipment is better than the stuff in that studio too, lol. The only bad thing about it is how hot it gets in the studio, it must be a hundred degrees sometimes! But I personally think the most fun job is being the director, with the control over everything. Thanks again!

hello Griffin question I don't know if you answered my question or not how do the TV show or live taping does? how does it go live? and why do they say New episodes are there live or pre-recording I'll like to know that statement is it the control room does the live or camera Idk can you have a answer on video or comments below so eager to read this comment thanks have a great day and I learned a lot

Think about this: experience is usually, but not always, what employers want. I heard about a TV studio employee who had studied broadcasting in school, so thought he was too good to sweep the studio floor. He wasn't a team player; his employment didn't last long. Your lack of experience may also be the flexibility that helps you fit on the team!

Here's my question: I was watching this video on indy mogul somewhere and you were saying that because you film yourself a lot u have a monitor that shows u while your filming so u can see what the cameras capturing as its happening

Avid is used in many industrial, corporate, educational, government and private companies as well. some use Grass Valley's edit system where once the video is ingested it never leaves the computer, the director calls it up from the system and it goes on the air.

The production switcher, the board with all the light-up buttons on it, has a built-in keyer. Works like the chroma keyer in an editing program, but it does it live. It's expensive, though. I'd love to find a cheap version for consumers. Anyone aware of a product?

Loved the video. The best experience I got was interning/volunteering at my local PBS station through out college. They're always looking for free labor for the telethons. Everyone rotated so I did camera, floor, tape, and even helped TD.

Hey, Griffin! I loved the tour of the PBS station. My school has its own TV studio and I was surprised that despite the space, the PBS station and my school's studio are very similar. Did you work at PBS besides being on their Board?

i work at a local tv station, and while we are a lot smaller than that station (a LOT smaller, we have the same basic set up which i find pretty cool. They even offer internships for high school aged students like myself.

A public TV station like this has lots of contact info on their website: wtvp. org. You can call their main line to ask about employment, or look up the staff directory to chat with some of the people in charge of production.

Great look Griffin, I started in local TV and it really taught me a lot. I recommend anyone who wants to get into TV take a tour of your local station, it's great to see how all the pieces work together in a smaller setting.

I learned Avid in school, but it seems like it's only used in television studios. Good to know if you want to be in broadcasting/journalism, but you're right: Premiere and Final Cut are more common in filmmaking.

You said that the crew pitch ne shows of programing. What if they had an idea for a show that they wanted to make? Would the station charge them a fee to use the studio to make or to shoot their idea?

It sounds like the crew has some leeway to use the equipment and produce their ideas (at no charge. And if the pilot video is good enough, it could get airtime, and lead to more episodes!

to be honest i prefer tapes the dont get scratched like dvds but they arent hd i also prefer floppy disks but they corrupt alot and they have small capacity im 13 and i prefer old school

I myself had the chance to visit my regional France3 studio a few years back, looked a lot like your PBS one.
I don't see any reason why UK wouldn't have something like that: )
