Huey talks about the new musical based on his body of work The Heart of Rock & Roll opening on Broadway, being part of the new Netflix documentary The Greatest Night in Pop about the making of We Are the World, being informed at the last minute about having to sing a solo, never recording a song that Bob Dylan wrote specifically for him and sent to him, what made him start playing harmonica, and his music inspirations.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this; Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is Hip To Be Square. A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself. Hey, Paul.

I wish that during this interview, Huey and Jimmy would have talked about and raised more awareness about the ear related autoimmune disease that Huey suffers from called Meniere's Disease. Invisible disability that has drastically affected his life and the lives of so many people. I wonder what device he was using to assist him with hearing

I love Huey Lewis - was lucky to catch him at Springfest weekend in NYS in the 80's. he was phenomenal live. you could tell he loved it! At least I DID get to see him perform live so I have no regrets. Great memories and this was a great interview Jimmy! THANKS!

Maybe you should dive into the world of Ayreon. You could start with the Sixth Extinction, Everybody Dies or Amazing Flight. Parts of unknown rock opera’s unknown in the USA, while the world best metal singers participate.

The The Greatest Night in Pop documentary was surprisingly enjoyable, I didn't expect to learn so many interesting and emotional details about that iconic 1980s moment. And Huey Lewis was indeed the underdog hero in the documentary

Honestly surprised that he is one of the few of the older musicians with serious hearing loss. With performing you’d think lots more of them would. Always enjoyed his music nice to see he’s popular again

Clearly, we need a misheard Huey Lewis lyrics thread.

Such a great song and harmony typical of the 80s

So tragic what happened to him. To be so high in your musical career and then lose your hearing. I'm glad he's found his new path.

The top musical producer has hearing problems - that's about as short as you can sum up the situation in the musical industry today.
