Whoa, freaking holograms! It's time to get all futuristic up in here with Time Traveler, the holographic arcade game from Sega and the creator of classic Laserdisc game, Dragon's Lair!

I watched my friend play this once. I didn't try it myself because I instantly realized that it was the same style of gameplay as Dragon's Lair, which I hated.
The simulated holographic display amazed me. I knew it wasn't a real hologram, but it sure looked like one. Normally the trick to stuff like this becomes obvious if you look at it from the wrong angle, but no matter much I moved around, it still looked 3D.
It's a shame that the graphics hardware of the time wasn't up to the task of creating realistic looking images, as I would have loved to have seen a traditional video game using that type of display.
From poking around on the web, it seems that there's an emulator for the arcade version of this game. You need to own a copy of the DVD version and then rip it into a format that's compatible with the emulator. I don't know if it would be any more responsive than playing it on a DVD player, but emulating the arcade machine would at least allow you to feed an endless supply of virtual quarters into it so you could see the whole game. :)

So i got to this video while watching an episode of the old Batman animated tv show. (In my adult life 2020) Batman Blu ray box set birthday gift entire series including Mask of the Phantasm and Subzero feature length movies! Fantastic collectable item for the pop culture collector at heart! But i-m getting off track. In one episode Batman attempts to save a woman from train tracks only to find out she was a hologram. Then i got to reminiscing of the time i was waiting to see Batman Forever in theaters and there was this odd holographic arcade game that i had never seen before and never saw again! I never even got to play it because i was a 14 year old with no pocket change. I thought maybe I imagined it before i did a google search which brought here! And thats how i got here! At least I didn-t imagine it.

I remember being amazed by the holographic graphics, which really made me want to play the game, but it controlled so poorly that it felt like the worst rip-off in the entire arcade. I remember one playthrough where I didn't even last thirty seconds. I must have tried to play this game at least a dozen times and was never able to complete a level. Even when you think you KNOW you hit the button exactly at the right time, the game would often still kill you. I can't even imagine trying to play this on a DVD player.

5: 24 -Surprise and drama on the diamond today when a man dressed as a stereotypical Western cowboy 'teleported' onto the field and shot the pitcher and the batter in front of a full stadium. As we can see here both the catcher and the umpire were to much in shock after witnessing these events to react accordingly. The shooter is still on the loose and people are advised not to confront him but call the police instead. More updates as we continue on this story. -

Most arcades that I played, used a mirror to show the game. So the actual monitor was displaying an mirrored image. Of course those games didn't come with the 'hologram' gimmick. Games that are actually good don't need that crap. Don't know why they did that. Maybe that if a gamer got angry and decided to smash up the screen, all he did was damage the mirror. Of course that would be expensive too but less cost and fuss than having to replace an entire monitor.

I have played the arcade version a few times. It's pretty okay. Awesome looking, but like the video said, the game play is like Dragon's Lair and it's not too fun for me. I work at a place that had one of these cabinets, but parted out. I had a lot of fun setting it on fire. :) My boss said the machine had a problem going out of order all of the time and it was a loss for him. He bought one of the first three cabinets to enter the US. $15, 000 too much.

The only explanations I could ever come up with for why the hero is a cowboy is A: There were only limited time periods that the Princess could choose from and the old west was the most advanced she could pull a recruit from or B: They had sent other recruits in before, and each time one failed they analyzed what went wrong then adjusted their selection criteria, and he fitted whatever criteria they were looking to match for the current attempt.

I really tried to like this game, but it was just too much to take in! You had to stand in the exact spot to see what was going on. And the arcade that had it placed it next to a window.
It reminded me of a crappy offshoot of Dragons Lair.
That game was pretty good, but after the game got to the arcade, the laser disc started skipping and it was just too much for the owner to deal with, so it went away. LOL!

They had a Time Traveller/Holloseum cabinet at Command Center arcade in Renton, WA when I was a kid. They're rare because the gameplay is absolutely terrible, there's a full 1-2 seconds of lag before the controls respond to your input at all, and you just repeatedly die at no fault of your own. Awful. But super cool looking, the holographic effect is awesome.
