I remember when Target still had C64 games on the shelves but a year or so later they had fewer until they were all gone. I don't even remember what I did with my C64 after that. The world back then was about getting faster and faster cpus and more and more memory. A 2mb simm ram cost me $200 back in early 90's. By late 90's you could buy a 32mb ram stick for less than hundred bucks. I think win95 needed at least 8mb. I was playing gta vice city on my 1ghz windows machine and the hard disk finally stopped thrashing the virtual file when I upped my memory to 512 megs. Went from amd 1ghz athlon to 2. 6ghz amd phenom II three core with 8 gigs of ram. My 486 66mhz machine lasted me from '93 to 2001 then my 1ghz amd machine from 2001 to 2009 and 2. 6ghz phenom from 2009 to today. I don't game as much as I did back then. I built my sister a celeron 300A machine with taping off one of the pins on the board taking the cpu to 450mhz. That was the rage back then ie. gaming on the cheap. Speaking of games, duke 3d was mind blowing back then. I loved sneaking in the tunnels of the game. Later I did the same in Deus Ex which was also a great game.

Dear LGR,
At 21: 00 you have finally ended my 5 year or so search for this obscure Star Wars game. My uncle installed Star Wars: Yoda Stories to my families first ever PC. I remember playing this game and never understanding what to do because I was a dumb kid. I asked my uncle if he remember the game and I didn't remember enough details for him to remember it either. I have now found a free version online of this game and plan to play all the way through, so thank you for my lost childhood nostalgia.
Also, I love your collection of Putt Putt games. My cousins and I played Putt Putt goes to the Moon about a thousand times. Do you have any of the old cereal box PC games? We used to play a game called something like, Amazon Trail 3rd Edition or something like that. You got in a canoe and swam through the Amazon meeting famous people and civilizations through time, fishing, bartering, avoiding logs in the river or else you'd tip the canoe. It was a fun educational game, and you should totally do a review on that game if you own it. Thanks again LGR, love your videos.
edit: I figured out the games name lol

First thing I did when I bought a game was to throw the box away: ) I just don't have space to store them. I was surprised you have tornado flight sim by DiD. I still have my cdrom version and I spent many hours in the game. One of the most immersive flight sim of the dos days. Coming in for landing with all systems knocked out and down to last few pounds of fuel and just barely made it. I also have flight unlimited game by looking glass studios. Spent many hours in 3rd person view in that game simulating a radio control flight sim. Later I got a proper rc flight simulator. You really have a lot of games. I gave my genesis and nes/snes consoles and games to my sister long time ago and nowadays looking at the game prices makes me wonder if I did the right thing. Back then nobody wanted these systems or games and everyone was moving onto new consoles and games. Also, it would be a very sad day if your floppy games gave up the ghost and I know lot of them depend on the copy protections and physical disk being in the drive.

Just seeing Septerra Core on your shelf has made me decide it's time to go revisit all the PC games I wanted to play as a kid but never got the chance to. Shoot, I even did what you did with the Need for Speed games: I bought it in the hopes that someday later I'd be able to play it because my crappy computer would seize if you so much as looked at it funny, let alone if you tried to play games on it. Unfortunately, that never really happened as the game got lost in the shuffle when I moved a few years later. Looked the game up over a decade later wondering if anybody else remembered it, and sure enough, it was on both GOG and Steam. So now's as good a time as any for me to give it a go!

Seeing this and Darkspore video, kinda inspired me to start collecting and doing as much as I can for preservation. With how gaming goes and companies pushing games as live-services and dying within months, it's important to keep them as a reminder of how history repeats itself, even when companies don't understand it. Hell, I can point to both Anthem and Marvel's Avengers for having the same exact issues and fate.
And sooner or later, they will push games going digital only, so this could be the last gen of gaming with physical media.

Nice collection
One program I loved to use is called DBase IV. It's a data base program that u can create almost anything with. When i was in collage doing my microcomputer specialist course. My final project was to setup a electronic bulletin board for the whole collage with 3 different monitors set up at the front door, the main office and in the lounge where everyone ate. It take over 9 months to complete. That was back in 1989 to 1991. I was the only student in that course that got a 100% on the final project.

talking about games that you wouldnt assume has a physical pc release. I once had the misfortune of getting a physical copy of angry birds for pc for christmas one year. I wouldnt recommend seeking it out for your collection as it would devalue anything you put on the same shelf as it. Just an interesting titbit of completely pointless info for you.
you're welcome

Thanks so much for the tour. It brought back tons of memories for me. That's a pretty awesome collection you've got there, and I admire your passion and patience for collecting them. My favorite part was the Sega Genesis section. I have a decent Sega Genesis collection because I love those side-scrollers and platform games. Really wonderful memories. thank you.
