This game is decent, but I loved it as a kid. The gameplay is admittedly mediocre by todays standards; and there are glitches that make backgrounds look like shit. But the music is amazing and all the characters have a ton of personality yeah. Going to feel bad for saying this, but I think the Brickster is the best part of the game; again less on gameplay aspect and more on hearing all his badass oneliners. Aside from finding the 4 pieces and listening to that annoying whistle, chasing him is just really fun.

His various lines of dialogue and making fun of the various characters you play as while he's in jail is also amusing. He's the only character on the Island surprisingly who notices Pepper Roni is just a kid; also makes fun of him for not knowing how to spell or read. He also mocks Mama for having poor eyesight, Papa for being a horrible singer, Nick for having no nose or can't smell, and lastly mocks Laura for being bad at math or cannot count; 10, 4.
Sadly, the sequels while making some good effort in putting in new adventures failed miserably to capture the heart and spirit of the original. Though, those games weren't too horrible IMO and still had some value to them.

I was born in 2004 and played this on our old tower when I was 3/4. It was the first video game I ever played. Even before the plug-and-play mystery machine scooby doo games. I had little snippets of memories from the game, and some I didn't even know were from this game until I saw this video and it connected. I have wanted to play this game again for a while and now thanks for confirming it. This entire video was me going -oh I remember that! - or -wait, that's from Lego Island? -. I know nobody asked but this game was what got me started and this video was more nostalgic to me than anything I've seen in a while. Thank you. I know you probably won't see this but thank you. So much.

My PC is too advanced for this game, but I still have it on the shelf with its jewel case.
Also, a glitch you can try out: Speed up while driving any vehicle, and dismount without stopping. The vehicle will keep going on its own doing laps on certain parts of the island (depending where you dismounted.
Note: The sign by the jail says ''Pizza'', but Pepper, the character you play as for this final mission, has trouble reading (forgot the name of the condition. The other characters can read the sign just fine.

Re: the control issues: This was a known bug by the devs who discovered it after the game was sent to be pressed. Someone recreated the patch recently (unhooking it from the framerate.
When I was young, I ran this game on a Pentium 4 1. 6GHz and Windows XP, and for some reason the click targets were all wrong. It took me a while to figure out exactly where to click to activate anything other than the Infromation Center stuff. When I tried more recently, it seemed to work fine, though.

I did play this when I was young and it's amazingly fun, to be honest it was okay but that was enough since I don't have many games to play.
I remember it used to have some issue with the newer window XP since I played it on window 98 with the same PC, crappier framerate, unresponsive click I don't know the reason for that so after that only games I play are the sims and empire earth.

Hey - if you are already kinda hating this game, then may I suggest you check out its -sequel-, Lego Island 2! Even though I used to like it, it's full of bad voice acting, terribly programmed minigames, and the list goes on. Also, unlike the first game, I think it had ports for the PS2 and also some more crappier ones for the GameBoy Color/Advance.

I love this game so much. It was soooo good. They need to remaster it or remake it.
You have to remember dude this game was made in 1997. A lot of things done in this done in this game were groundbreaking and normal at the time. Creative freedom and true open world games didn-t even exist at this point. This was the beginning of that era.

This game was pretty broken on my parents shit office PC back then.
I couldn't do anything like build stuff, actually complete missions.
All around the freaking game just looked like a fever dream to me lol
Edit: OH SHIT. Turns out my game just ran way too fast and made everything impossible to steer

They messed up and tied the turn speed to the FPS because they forgot to add the ending of the code. They noticed right after the game released and they even patched it, but the company didn't care at all. i know this video is from 2016 just wanted to comment this though for anyone new

Seems to me like the game was meant more to promote playing with lego sets like the cars and helicopter. I do appreciate this game for opening the door to more. My all-time favorite game being LEGO City Undercover. Kudos to Travellers Tales for finding the winning formula for Lego games.
