-Gummy Chicklett Abomination-. I've never used one of those keyboards, in fact I've never even seen one before. Also I am far from a keyboard connoisseur (I find my Logitech k360 quite sufficient. But just from that picture you flashed up of the original PC Junior keyboard I can tell that your description is incredibly apt. That thing looks like an awful. well, abomonation. I couldn't imagine trying to type on that cheap and nasty thing. My fingers weep at the mere prospect of it. Anyway, your description of it just really tickled me and I had to rewind a couple of times to hear it again and giggle at the picture of that horrible looking plastic piece of ass.

Seeing this sort of thing, I'm starting to consider investing in a mechanical keyboard myself. That's still pretty damn cool to see that a wireless keyboard existed back then, and functioned well enough to be usable. I was also shocked by that horrid looking keyboard with the awful rubber keys, I got a kick out of seeing it too.
If there is another thing that bothers me about keyboards, it's the ones with the super flat keys, they don't feel right at all! They feel super awkward to type with. I like my keys nice a fat (I'm sure you know what I mean.

Man, I wish I had one of these back when I had a PC jr! At least we had the updated keyboard, I never knew the dreaded -chicklet- keyboard existed until well later. PCjr was my family's main PC until about 1992, and then I inherited it and learned the ins and outs of computers with it. Made a few upgrades, learned a lot of BASIC, downloaded a lot of shareware. :D

This keyboard seems to work just like a huge TV remote - it only works when there's a direct line-of-sight to the receiver. I had an IR wireless ball mouse which behaved exactly the same.
One good thing about IR based wireless controllers is that the batteries in them seem to last forever.
Oh, and nice to see Planet X3 on that old beast of a PC.

I had no idea that Cherry was making keyboards in the 80's and that the switches they made back then are nearly identical to what we have today. Typing this from a corsair k68 RGB with Cherry MX Red switches -. -
I wonder if you can swap out the keys on that keyboard and if there's a way to hook it up to a modern PC even if you have to use PS/2

i just rescued an old cherry g80 keyboard (i guess it's from before 2000) from the thrash at work. i obviously had to clean it (i literally cleaned every single key. a lot of work. ;) and now i'm writing this comment with it. i just can't tell how happy the sound makes me when pushing some keys. it's just wonderful.

You should seriously consider getting rid of those CFL bulbs in your house. They emit harmful radiation that has been shown to cause sun burn like symptoms & some people have reported bouts of vertigo & migraines. After I removed them I felt a lot better. I replaced them with LED bulbs witch are far more energy efficient.

It seems that the dome-shaped IR transiever on the PCjr was probably better as the one on the adapter box probably doesn't send/receive at nearly as much of a wide angle as the PCjr's built-in one does, that's probably why it was so difficult to get the keyboard to work (probably had to be more line-of-sight.

I have a Cherry keyboard from the late 80's with linear MX Blacks, and it's my favourite keyboard. Just perfect switches, so smooth! Model M is my other favourite, but it's not as nice for gaming, and of course that's what people usually use these old machines for.
