The DC-2 got a lot of press, but it had a seedier sibling that was largely kept secret from the public. The CD-1 (cocaine dealer/distributor/dispenser, depending on who you talk to) served trays of the powdery white narcotic at the most elite Hollywood parties of the early 80's. Devo wrote an entire album dedicated to it in 1983, but this was shelved, leading to their -career suicide- release of 1984, -Shout-. Executives at Warner Bros Records were PISSED that Devo tried to tell the world of their robotic booger-sugar butler, and unceremoniously dropped the band while tarnishing their reputation into that of a one hit wonder. They weren't.

Recently I was in China and they have a very similar robot that looks like this that serves drinks and cupcakes. It had a digitized face though I can show expressions and its eyes can focus on you. What was cute about it as if it came to you and offered you a cupcake and you didn't want a cupcake its face would be sad and it would leave away from you very slowly to the next person. It made you want to take the cupcake cuz you made the robot sad LOL

Watching this gave me an idea for making a machine like that automated but super simple to code. You have sensors that detect distance in all directions. You have it so that it will run a give course but with few commands. It will record the whole path and use it as a reference as to where it is. While it is going if it is obstructed it is told to pause untill unobstructed then return to running its course.

Well, we've been interacting quite closely with robots since the invention of the robot arm in the automobile industry.
This might mean that if the hood pops off on my el cheapo overheating little hatchback one of these days and causes a forest fire where it lands, the robot which built that part will be held responsible and arrested!

wasn't one of these featured in one of the Rocky movies too? I remember seeing a similar type -butler- remote control robot similar to this in Rocky IV when Rocky was super wealthy from being a champion boxer. I think he had a new at the time Lamborghini in one scene too.

When he said the robot was part of the divorce courts picket playing -She got the goldmine, I got the shaft- I almost pissed myself with laughter. I love that song and to know that a robot in a picket line was playing it was a reality one day just makes me so happy.

I remember seeing one of these remote controlled robots during my childhood in the early 90s. It was used in a shopping street to entertain the children there. I sure would like to find out which company offered this service in Germany.

I love how the music choice and pace of narrative in LGR Tech tales remind of Unexplained Mysteries and In search of. I am unsure if this was done on purpose or just a happy accident

so funny how ppl that have no idea how computers work think we can make a full autonamous robot back then and even now in 2020. It doesnt work like that, pick up a book and learn something.
