Since the book came out in 2007, it's possible the setting takes place during that time too. In 2007, Supernatural season 3 came out. So technically 13 Reasons happened before the Apocolpyse.
What if Lucifer's vessel was actually Alex's dad and after losing his son, he later got remarried, had another baby, but lost them as well? He feels like he's being punished cause everyone he loved is gone. Nothing left for him so he said yes to Lucifer.

I actually found out about goosebumps because i googled actor that played clay in 13 reasons why. I think i missed that movie for a reason. What a waste of a childhood memory that movie is or maybe it isn't bad and i had higher expectations.
