As a competitive fighting game player I'm preparing to be too casual for these jokes.
Edit: So I got to the Dan one and I think they missed something. Dan is a parody of Ryo AND Robert (I think, they both have a brown ponytail and share some normals. Dan is actually decent in SF4-USF4. Lastely, Art of Fighting is pretty forgoten. Mostly because SNK combined some of the fighting games in the King of Fighters series. This series includes Ryo and the newest game dropped just last year, KoF14.

I would actually disagree with your opening quote. These days games barely keep a consistent tone they're more likely to 4th wall break and shove the: we understand our audience, we know the memes, we can be self-referential wich is highly annoying. Just tell a damm story without petting yourself on the shoulder. Fan service is just the worst, since it's mostly overdone.

Has anyone noticed the Aliens references in Halo? The Sargent looks and sounds like Sgt. Apone (who even smokes cigars, the drop ships, hypersleep chambers and the Pillar of Autumn is the same shape as the Sulaco. On occasion you'll hear a soldier sound like Bill Paxton's Private Hudson screaming we're screwed man, game over.

I played Skyrim and felt like KFC so I burnt one of their chickens and everyone friend to kill me. I ended up dying by a woman grabbing my head wrenching it back and stabbing me 7 times in the throat. The worst part was I got no KFC. Stay away from chickens in Skyrim.

whimsyshire was supposed to be a reference to there is no cow level and they just took it 1 step farther and made it super colorful to piss off its fanbase. and i'd say it worked cause based on twitch viewers d2lod is still more popular than d3.

I remember the first time I attacked one of the Coccos(however it's spelled) in OoT. That was the last time I ever did that. Lesson learned. Until Hyrule Warriors came along and I had to fight them as an objective. shrugs

The Zombie Genocider achievement is so hardcore to get, you can ONLY kill zombies during the main story. You have to do the main missions too, but you have to neglect the dozens of side missions in order to reach the goal.

Dan came about not just as revenge but because the two developers were at war mind you a mildly friendly war which some of us remember and also realize as stated it has benefited gamers in general: D

The atmosphere in Diablo was a legitimate complain, how can the team behind Diablo 3 not understand that? No wonder the real team behind Diablo went on and produced their own Diablo: Torchlight.
