Honestly, Val Kilmer was an excellent Bruce Wayne. His scenes of character exploration are way better done than prior films and really show whom bruce wayne, or batman behind the mask really truly is. We get this well with michael keaton when he is with catwoman/selina kyle, and the one joker scene in batman 1989 when he uses the iconic line have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight but otherwise scenes feel really filler-ish. The problem? Val Kilmer in the suit-while feeling different, doesn't sound very intimidating and almost acts like he doesn't want to be batman.
I'd say it was intentional giving the title batman forever, his moment of I'm going to retire then maybe if we actually got the fully uncut version we deserve it'd help. Still, I think his delivery is very lacking while in the costume.
Kilmer is also known for being a problem actor to work with, he dropped out of playing batman saying it'd do nothing to further his career. I would've preferred him in batman and robin if it'd gone batman 1989+batman forever like it should've in tone (and was the plan for a 5th film would it have been made before the year one idea shot up and then endlesss development hell until begins came up.

I know I am in the Minority here, but for me, Val Kilmer was a much better Batman/Bruce Wayne than Keaton and Clooney. and I love Halley Berry as Cat Woman/Patience Phillips,
for me what ruined Catwoman was Sharon Stone as Laurel Hedare, while it was easy to see this catwoman as part of the greater DC Multiverse rather than a take on the Original Selena Kyle version, Sharon Stone just did not sit well in the role of a character in a Comic book inspired film, that coupled with a substandard script and editing while not the worst ever, it did not work well for the movies final edit.
Still I found Catwoman a rather enjoyable DC film, far better than Superman V Batman and that film had the budget to be great.
Halley Berry was/is a great Catwoman. Val Kilmer was a great Batman. both suffered with bad productions.

In the end, it is the DIRECTOR'S fault and not the actor. This is because in most movies not written/produced by committee, like many are today (Like they do with TV shows, it will be the DIRECTOR that has the final say-so over what footage gets released. I can't blame Jake Lloyd for his acting in The Phantom Menace, as that was a 8 year old (or so) just trying to do what Lucas wanted. Hayden Christensen, however, is a little different. Sure, Lucas OK'd the footage, however, when I saw part of that movie where Christensen plays a knight defending a temple, he had the same wooden acting as he had with Anakin. It was more like the Character description noted the wooden acting, ad he was cast to type, so.

The truth of course is that Clarke is/looks like a 5ft nothing little poppet who flinches everytime she fires a gun, some of which almost seem in danger of _crushing_ her tiny physique at times. Needless to say that such impediments are not exactly advantageous for an actress attempting to portray a 'bad ass', firearms proficient character!
A truly terrible piece of casting.

The fact that George Clooney and Chris O'Donnell had nipples on their costumes is one thing. It is emphasized by the fact that Una Thurman and Alicia Silverstone had no nipples on their costumes. There is a very limited audience for long closeups of Clooney's butt and O'Donnell's butt. ALL of the blame belongs to Joel Schumacher. Catwoman would have been terrible no matter who played Catwoman. There is nothing Julie Newmar, Lee Merriweather,
or Anne Hathaway could have done that would have saved that movie.

One of the reasons why Evelyn (Carnahan) O'Connell is one of my favorite female characters is because of Rachel's performance.
And to be fair, the direct-to-video sequels to, Aladdin, already stank.
Also, the second Dumbledore did just fine. You're hating on him for no reason. I think you're just being petty and spiteful.
Finally, I'll take Kilmer's performance as Batman over Clooney's any day of the week.

In all fairness to Catwoman, Halle Berry was not playing Selina Kyle and the script was an old, rejected The Crow sequel. I love paying attention to when they turn a shelved movie into another film all together. For example, Minority Report was originally supposed to be the sequel to Total Recall. Also, Kull the Conquer was supposed to be called Conan the Conquer but Arnold's contract expires before they could film it.

I think the issue with the Potter movies was more that they brought in the new director and they got dark really fast. The books stayed lighter longer. It was fairly obvious that the new Dumbledore had not read the books as you said because he was incredibly stern and the is not how he was in the books. I lost interest in the movies after number 4. The books are much better and I listen to them over and over.

Most (not all) of the movies on this list are complete garbage for many reasons that have nothing to do with the actor change. Whatever you might hear, the most common reason good actors don't reprise their roles in sequels is because the script sucks. They just can't say it because even a big name actor who bad mouths movies/studios/scripts etc. is going to get black listed in a hurry!
