Actors Who Fully Admitted They Only Took A Role For The Money
video description
You put Michael Caine in for JAWS 4: The Revenge. But you didn't put the MOST FAMOUS ACTOR from the Jaws franchise THAT HAD TO DO A SEQUEL, that they didn't want NO PART OF IT. Roy Schneider did it.
Plenty of actors/actresses had to do parts just for the money since they were under contract with the studio.
Marlo Brando did few films in his time, including Superman, that he did it for the money. Samething for Christopher Reeves for Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.
Seriously: Jabbar? Maybe at the time, since they didn't know it was a CLASSIC but he did show up years later on the Today show reunion of Airplane! with both leads, Graves, Nielsen & the girl who played the patient on the plane.
Looper, your better than this. Or just like the Legacy media, JUST DAM LAZY THESE DAYS!

The comments here are ridiculous. Yes, we all work for money, but some of us actually do what we do because we ENJOY IT. Acting is very fun, especially when you get to sink your teeth into a very interesting character. But typically, movies that make the most money have pretty cookie-cutter characters, which are boring to play. For example, I love Star Wars, but there's nothing particularly interesting about Obi Wan in the original Star Wars film -- he is just an old sage/wizard. There's no nuance to his personality. Not exactly a great role if you like to play complex characters.
So, if you have a talented actor sign up for such a role, like Alec Guinness, it's probably purely for money, not enjoyment. And yeah, actors need/want money just as much as the rest of us.

What Glenn Close did is pretty much what every actor now does if they're lucky enough to have this choice! A lot of these comic book adaptations want reputable, A-list actors to anchor the film's marketability and lend prestige and a sense of seriousness to the films, like Robert Redford in Winter Soldier, Michael Keaton in Spider-man: Homecoming and Nicole Kidman in the upcoming Aquaman. In turn, these actors get lured by a lot of money for not a lot of work for movies which bring profits and usually good reviews (important for their resume & reputation. This allows them to do the small budget, experimental indie films they love without being a starving artist.

Sonce this seems to confuse people, yes most people want to be paid for acting, but most actors don't do it only for money. The vast majority of actors are not paid all that well. Some get paid so poorly they need second jobs to get by. Those actors do the work because they enjoy it, they see it as art and not just a job. They want to do roles they enjoy, that create something, that tell great stories. But unfortunately art rarely sells well. people tend to prefer pretty crap over good cinema. Thus occasionally to make ends meet an actor has to do a crappy role.

I can see why some people would be offended by the it's just a paycheck thing. If I wrote something that I loved and it was being made into a movie I wouldn't want actors who just want a paycheck. That gives me the impression that I'm wasting the role. If I thought while writing that a specific actor would be perfect and he auditions and admits he hasn't read the book and isn't gonna, then I'd be reluctant to hire him. But if another actor comes and he isn't quite the look or sound but is excited to be apart of it then I'd hire him.

I see people saying in the comments What's wrong with taking a role just for money? Well if you're already we'll known and rich you would think you would have enough integrity to only take and do roles that you think are good. That's like getting married just for the money. I'm still glad some of these people did it because they had great parts in great films but you know. Would you really for example recommend someone act in the Emoji movie even if it is for money if they were already rich?

I don't understand how people can be so daft as to why some actors take roles just purely for the money. It's not that hard a concept to understand. Looper did a video recently about actors who took a role for not that much money. Actors are able to take roles based on how they feel, how much they are paid, how the role speaks to them, how it will influence their career, and a litany of other decisions. It's not always about money.

For the money! Egad, the bounders! Honestly, you English twits amuse me with your ridiculous dumb think. This reminds me when television began broadcasting in the fifties in Britain and the toffs were desperate to avoid commercial influence. Imagine the idea of introducing a massive new enterprise which would provide so many new jobs! The very idea!

Completely unrelated to this list, but I want to mention it anyways because it makes me laugh! The actress that played the Mother in Carrie, thought it was going to be a comedy, she apparently wouldn't stop cracking up during some of the over the top/violent moments which oddly enough makes me appreciate that movie more.

Is there anything worse than watching someone whom you know is talented end up in cinematic dreck? Yes. watching them trying to defend that dreck in an interview.
Now, with the possible exception of Jaws: The Revenge, I'm not using that term to describe any of these movies. but at least the actors were honest about it.
