The Real Reason Geostorm Flopped At The Box Office Hall: I think hollywood should focus more on mass advertising independent movies. People complain hollywood makes nothing but sequels, prequels and spin offs which is true. But they also make a lot of independent original movies. The problem is that they never widely advertise it as much as they should. Only time they widely advertise anything original is horror movies which if we are being honest are so much better nowadays. Blumhouse has came out with so many original content when it comes to independent horror movies and even other genres. People crave new movies so why not give it to them? Don't saturate the theater with nothing but trailers for sequels and prequels. Give us all the independent stuff!

I just watched it. for free, thankfully. Other than the obvious political leanings (which I can get over and enjoy a film if it's well made and acted, but, the writing was horrible and the plot was predictable all along the way. I knew when, why, and how before the characters did (I hate that, there was obvious clues before tragedy struck or the bad guy was discovered. I mean, everyone knows when the 'big guy' you've asked to help you asks you how much you know about Project Zeus that he's the one who's behind it all. too apparent. the transparency in this film was far too sheer. zzzzzz

They also had no idea how to even market this one. First trailer I saw in theaters was dark and brooding and had an eerie girl singing What A Wonderful World, the second trailer I saw was more comedic and goofy but with action scenes, then there was another one that sort of combined both moods. That's usually a good way to tell that a movie is going to suck.
EDIT: The video mentions what I said in Marketing Mayhem. nvm.

I'm a sucker for this kind of movies, but having just lived the Mexico City earthquake I can vouch for that part of the theory. No way I was going to sit and watch it comfortably after having lost neighbors. Blade Runner, on the other hand, that was 150 minutes I thoroughly enjoyed and felt it was even cathartic. I'll catch Geostorm on Netflix or blu-ray because Butler is cool and homeboy Derbez is in it.

What did it for me was the fact that it was a 1hr 40min movie and had about 10 mins worth of disaster scenes, which were also interrupted by scenes of people talking or displaying drama. The storyline was also cliche and predictable. Of course, they would have weaponized the global satellites to attack enemies. Why not just have a psychopath cause disasters for shits and giggles. That woul be different.

Haha, this was just like one of those low budget Sharknado movies. Only with well known actors and a bit better FX. The story and monologue tho. no logic, nothing new or unexpected happened to the main characters, almost feel asleep. Guess this is a movie for kids tho, shouldn't complain.
Is it just me or was these kind of movies better in the 90's? Like Terminator 2 and Independence Day 1.

One of my favorite movies of all time is Twister and even enjoyed basically its remake Into The Storm however I def think the Too Soon was a big deal for me not seeing it, I was fatigued from all the real natural disasters especially considering I have personal/family ties in Florida and Puerto Rico, I haven't been in a disaster movie mood since the hurricanes took place.

Cliche's
1) Genius, talented, Divorced single dad living in a trailer.
2) Cool dad but Bad at parenting
3) Unimportant character discovers something and dies the exact moment he's about to tell the protagonist
4) Hero tries to beat the clock in order to save the day and did it with seconds left
5) An American saves the day hurray!
Very similar to Armageddon

Gerard butler is just a stubborn bonehead meathead in this movie and every movie he is in, except for 300 which he did great, but since then, its been horrible movies he has done. CGI really messed up everything, seeing the same crap over and over in movies just gets boring, how can you make it serious if you also had in the cast Eugenio Derbez latin lover LOL

You left out the fact that the domestic box office is getting sick and tired of being lectured about a global warming crisis that doesn't actually exist. From asinine movies like 2012 to Preposterous ones like the day after tomorrow, Hollywood has been in our face about the non-existent danger of climate change for decades. We are sick of it.
