I actually quite liked The Lone Ranger. The critics didn't like it because it veered away from the TV nostalgia. That was precisely why I did like it. The TV show was campy and Clayton Moore couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. (Fight me) I thought Armie Hammer was great in the role. The only criticism I would have is that Johnny Depp's Tonto was a little too much like Jack Sparrow. In other words, he phoned in that performance. But even with that, I found it to be a funny, exciting romp of a western. and I generally don't care for westerns.

I never even heard of Speed Racer before the movie came out. Maybe a generational thing, but I'm not familiar with it at all. If it was popular in the 60's, it hasn't been ever since. I'm 34 years old and I had to google the damn title to even learn what it was about. I'm pretty sure a big reason that movie flopped so hard is because too many people never even heard of it before. Or maybe it was just bad, I don't know. I definitely didn't go see it. I vaguely recall seeing the poster at my local theater, but that's about it.

Shame about John Carter. It's dumb and silly, but it's good-natured dumb silliness. It doesn't try to take itself seriously and the cast were clearly having fun. I think the title was a big part of the failure because it says absolutely nothing about the content of the movie. It would have been like if Hollywood had made a movie about a time-travelling murderous robot and called it 'Kyle Reese'. I don't think anyone would have bought a ticket based on the name.

Ben Hur. Some films are harder to remake than others. Some classics can be updated or looked at from another angle. The Chariot Race in the original Ben Hur Is really Hard To beat and a cg race up against real horses, real people, real stunts, with large physical sets all in camera with some matt painting will struggle to come close. Even if the cg is good the original is basically real and is just more impressive

If Sahara made 119 million at the box office how did it lose 100 million? You really should show us the math. Also, with a simple google search I discovered that you wrong about almost all of these. When you add in DVD sales and money from Netflix, amazon prime, HBO and others most of these turned a pretty good profit. Not spectacular riches mind you but a profit none the less

I can't quite understand why they can't come up with a good Lone Ranger Script. They keep trying to catch that bygone feel of the 50s TV show instead of rebooting like they did with Batman the Dark Night. I think The Lone Ranger would work if they went dark with that character and story line. Then again. maybe people are just forever done with westerns.

I think what we can learn from this is it not always whether a film is actually any good that matters as to it being a box office success.
It can be a bad trailer, pompous reviewers trying to be clever and trendy or just simple bad timing.
Not all of these movies were terrible, that is for sure. In fact, most were actually pretty damn good.

A couple that shouldn't have made the list, though neither was as good as they should have been. Tomorrowland, it wasn't bad at all. And The Lone Ranger. Again, not bad at all. It seemed like a missed mistake to me to make it a comedy, when the original was anything but. However, I know most folks know nothing about the original.

100 Million, 200 Million loss? Nothing compared to what Holly-Wood makes trafficking children. which is the true purpose of this ungodly organization and why many of these people in that system are being indicted for their crimes. People you would suspect and many you would not. Idol makers for sure. Good riddance. God bless
