Movies That Flopped So Hard They Put Studios Out of Business

They didn't base the story directly out of one of the games. This is what makes the games so insanely cool and popular. Memorable varied characters, mystical people/places/histories. Gorgeous music.
First of all, if they had taken FF4 or 6 and made a movie based on either of those storylines, I suspect there'd be a whole series of movies at this point. The story sucked so much, the characters acted like people straight out of a typical action movie, and I can't even tell you what the story was about, it wasn't memorable in any way. Mindless ghosty things attacking people, on EARTH. Final Fantasy doesn't have anything to do with Earth, much less have the story there. Each game has its own world and story/backstory. And then---there was---the Pepsi sign. When I saw the pepsi sign in the movie in the first few scenes, I knew it wasn't going to be FF at all. Pepsi is great and all but. not in FF. this made me sad realizing that my favorite game series had been hijacked to try and pander to everyone. As many know from experience as kids, many parents thought poorly or looked down on video games, or straight up didn't care to ever see what we found so interesting about them. I thought with a FF movie coming out, maybe this was a chance for mine or other parents to see that some of the games had some pretty dang cool stories that could rival the best movies, and maybe pay a little attention to them, or share that experience. But nope, it was so bad I never watched it again.
Now, let us imagine a few scenes and how awesome they could be on the big screen:
FF6 - The Mechs traveling to Narshe across the frozen tundra, The Opera, Figaro castle tunneling under the ground, Ultros showing up randomly, Celes and Locke's relationship, Celes giving up hope on the island but then setting out on a raft to find her friends who she thinks are likely dead, Saban suplexing the Ghost Train, Kefka ruining the world & betraying everyone.
FF4 - Tellah expending his life to cast Meteo vs. Golbez to avenge his daughters death, Palom and Porum turning themselves to stone to save Cecil and the others from being squished by a trap, Cecil being attacked by his evil side to atone for his misdeeds on Mt. Ordeals, flying the Big Whale airship (spaceship) to the moon, the Giant of Babil coming out of the underground and the entire world's forces going to confront it--with the climactic battle vs the 4 fiends inside of it, or Rydia showing up just before Golbez kills everyone-heroically saving Cecil and defeating Golbez. (Dang I forgot how awesome this game is. If you haven't played it check it out. I forgot how incredible some of these moments are when you are invested in the characters. Would have been such great movies! (Still could be)

Final Fantasy Spirits Within was good, but it literally had Nothing to do with Final Fantasy.
It was some weird sci-fi flick and they tried to say these alien monsters were just ghosts of animals from a fragmented lifestream of a planet that was destroyed.
Okaaaaaayyyyyy--- you can really REALLY overreach and say that bit with the lifestream and life after death soul eternal stuff Is Final Fantasy.
But nah.
If they pumped in some Black Mages, a few Chocobos, and a cast of anime-esque characters with broody backstories and bizarre love triangles/pentagons, THEN we would have had something.
Totally redeemed themselves with the FF7 Advent Children movie through. Totally. And the FF15 pre-game movie was pretty jaw-dropping amazing.

I went into the movie, Final Fantasy, expecting a Final Fantasy movie. Fantasy or sci-fi or something. What I got? A horror flick. I did not want to see a horror flick. Which is what this movie quickly de-evolved into this slasher, everyone is going to die, horror style movie. I don't care how amazing it looked, it was horrible twist of expectations and probably one of many reasons why it failed.

I loved Final fantasy: the spirits within
Knowing now that it was the 1st of its kind to render such beautiful life like animations, just made me like it even more lol. The concept was good, how the enemies are invisible, and the Wall-E theme with the plant thing. Awesome movie.

I seriously cannot believe that any of these movies could bankrupt a studio. Particularly the major ones. They make the equivalent of a countrys gross national product for every blockbuster that they produce. One flop is certainly not going to do any damage whatsoever. On top of that, when 70 million is a failure, we seriously need to rethink our priorities.

How can we watch these videos when they are BS. IE the fist movie Golden Compass cost 180 million, and took in 70M as mentioned domestic, but not mentioned was it took in nearly 400 million worldwide plus media sales. So it was not a flop and that movie did not bankrupt the company; after all costs it actually netted them nearly 150 Million in profit.

What about United Artists which went bankrupt after the failure of the film Heaven's Gate, considered one of the most expensive flops in history? What about Cannon Films, which tried to get out of the hole by bankrolling three films Cyborg, Superman IV: The Quest For Peace and Masters Of The Universe. All failed, and Cannon went under.

How to fix Final Fantasy The Spirits Within.
Step 1: Change name to The Spirits Within.
Step 2: Sit back and watch as a decent scifi movie isnt torn to shit by pissed off fans becasue you believed it couldn't stand on it's own and shoehorned the FF name into a moive that had nothing to do with it.
Step 3: Profit.

Titan A. E. should sort of count. Fox Animation made it, they spent about 75 million on it, only got back about 25 million or less. Fox gave them up, and spent a few years resetting. Thanks to the decline of normal animation and rise of computer animation, it was sayanora Titan A. E, more Ice Age.

I enjoyed Cut throat I thought Gina Davis was great in it. Also Final Fantasy was most excellent. I bought the DVD and watched it till it wouldn't play anymore. Just like Siskel and ebert they downed a lot of movies that were very good. Critics suck butt cheese because it's their own opinion.
