While I wouldn't call it a glaring detail, it is a fascinating bit of trivia, otherwise well-told. I was 12 when I saw Star Wars in 1977 in theaters and I thought the sets were amazing. Looking back now, I can see they used painted plumbing tubes and pipes and other stuff from the hardware store, but they made magic in how they arranged and painted these simple things. So it doesn't surprise me there's an ordinary flashlight buried somewhere under a lightsaber.

Pablo Hidalgo is a shill. The props in Star Wars have nothing to do with being eco friendly. It's about creating a used future look and grounding the audience in a sense of realism. You do that by repurposing actual tools, guns, or whatever. The audience sees it and thinks That looks familiar, this must be real. So an old camera flash made in NYC becomes a lightsaber, an MG-42 becomes a blaster rifle, a Mauser Pistol becomes a Blaster, so on and so on.

This isn't a new discovery in 2019. It's been noted before in places like the RPF (Replica Prop Forums) by people aiming for screen accurate props. There's even a few guides on properly aligning the Kobold D-ring attachment to the bottom so that it lines up in that shot, using the etchings as reference points.
All to say, this information isn't new at all, and certainly not exclusive to this year.

IT's soo effin simple. The writing just wasn't readable to the audience. It's not readable in that video. If you pop your blu ray on and watch it on a big TV you still won't be able to read it. You can see that there's writing on it. And PH knows how the prop was built so he knows what the writing says even though you can't tell on the screen.

Oy, it's not a mistake, it's an interesting detail of the lightsaber prop, which was made from a Graflex flash handle. Han's blaster was made from a Mauser and Hensoldt-Wetzlar scope, and the markings are visible. Props in the original Star Trek were made from futuristic looking everyday items like salt & pepper shakers.

This has been known for many years in the prop community. You really have to be out of touch to think this discovery is new.
The prop is a Folmer Graflex camera flash Gun made in New York. This literally is nothing new and pointless to report. That dude is way out of touch!

I came on here thinking the mistake of which this video was going to talk about was on the level of the Starbuck coffee cup on the table of that scene in Game of Thrones that had people in such an uproar compared to that this is pathetic.

As a photographer, that uses the Crown Graphic and Speed Graphic 4x5 large format cameras, I was aware of this reality for the last 20 years. That said though, even I never realized they failed to cover the nameplate on the flash handle. LoL
