The Rambo Story Finally Explained Jokker505: As much as i like Rocky, John Rambo will always be my favorite. What Stallone did for this character in the screenplay was what made audiences like the character and immortalize it. The John Rambo from the novel is very different to the one we see in the film. Thanks to some rewrites and creativity by Stallone, he gave us a character that we could all sympathize and root for from the beginning much like Rocky. However, for anyone who's read the novel by David Morrel they know that's not the case. In the novel Rambo is more like what Benicio Del Toro's character (Aron Hallam) is portrayed in the Hunted (2003) as far as PTSD goes. Still if it wasn't for Stallone there wouldn't be a John Rambo fan base that's lasted over the years. For anyone that doesn't have the dvd or blue ray of First Blood, i recommend it. Stallone did the audio commentary for it, and it includes some very interesting and even humorous facts that happened to him and the crew during production. Like Kirk Douglas showing up one time and trying to rewrite the whole script, and Stallone(falling through the trees) and Dennehy (falling through the glass) breaking a few ribs!

One aspect of the first Rambo movie was the sheriff's hatred towards him!
In one small scene, when the sheriff was sitting in his office, one can plainly see the sheriff's military medals. On the table behind him! One of which was the Bronze Star without V (Valour) device!
Could this be the reason behind the Sheriff's hatred.
I don't believe the sheriff earned that medal!

In the original book Rambo is a Vietnam veteran who's PTSD leads him to go on a killing rampage taking out cops and civilians. The producers of the movie First Blood thought that would be too violent so they turned Rambo into a misunderstood victim of the war that only fought back when provoked by authorities. So the Rambo hero was born.

NO explanation just a recap of the films, Rambo in the novel dies in First Blood and the rest is just Hollywood expanding. That said however Stallone has given John Rambo an epic story for one of the last warriors of the Vietnam conflict. Rambo echoes the battle that service members fight internally after suffering trauma during war.

First blood was more then just about guys shooting at each other. It was about soliders who been through hell in war and coming back home to people who call them baby killers and murders. They came back with PTSD, they gave their lives to fight for their country. First blood was so much more deeper then all the other rambo movies.

(1. First Blood is bar the best in the franchise. Stallone at his finest, you can sympathize and empathize with the character, and it's a drama that as a gritty realism and gives it a gravity of isolation and desperation that make it a timeless classic. how I rate the rest: (2. RAMBO (2008, (3. Rambo 2 (4. Last Blood(5. Rambo 3

Finally? FINALLY! What about all the millions of people that died between the original movie and now, waiting for this information? Why did you wait so long for this? And why did it take someone with an swedish accent to finally divulge it? It's like a fake messiah that didn't come back in time to save the children.

Pretty good summary, but a couple corrections are in order.
Did Rambo really try to convince Teasle that it was an accident? I don't recall seeing it that way. Rambo never begged Teasle for anything. Early on he asked Teasle, Why are you pushing me? Later on with his knife at Teasle's neck he says, let it go

Trautman didnt stop Rambo from killing murdock, Rambo didnt kill him beacuse he knew that murdock where the rest of the prisoners from the Vietnam war was, he told murdock to pay them out if not he would Come back to kill him, you got the rest right though

Not even watching. Just came here to say we don't need everything explained to us. I wish people would let us just enjoy a movie with out having to explain why extra 15 said hello to extra 36 in the background
