What The Critics Are Saying About Doctor Sleep Kevtb87: The original is my absolute fav film of all time. Has been since I was 10 years old. I've an obsession with the movie and the book so it goes to say I'm excited and intrigued what the movie will do with Doctor Sleep. The book didn't wow me and trailers here look like they are trying to shoehorn way too much of Kubrick's movie in there. Trying to have its cake and eat it. It can't be it's own thing and pay repeated homage to the original movie over and over again without me thinking 'I'd rather just watch The Shining'. That's my biggest worry. That it will drown in the shadow of the original.

Expected nothing after the awful IT movies & dogshit Dark Tower. but Doctor Sleep is genuinely incredible. A proper, worthy sequel. One of the best films of the year & best King adaptations. Sharp, immersive, engrossing, emotionally exhausting, horrifying, & a career best performance from Ewan McGregor. Ranks with Misery & Dead Zone. Loved it. And Carl Lumbly deserves a Best Supporting Oscar nom for his Dick Halloran. Amazing transformation.

Im not expecting cartoonish CGI (It: Chapter 2) or awful plot storyline (The Dark Tower. Instead something that at least incapsulated the original though Stephen didnt enjoy it, I want the sequel to not have overused jump scares (Pet Semetary 2019) but instead focus on the disturbing elements that The Shining did. They mentioned this is a year for King but most of the movies made lack the scariness layered on Kings books.

I really enjoyed this movie. I think alot of people will find it boring or not scary enough but that is more of a problem with modern audiences rather than the film itself. It is more a supernatural thriller rather than a straight up horror film. It had me engaged and I love how they expand on The shining rather than just being a haunted hotel or something.

I didnt like it. I'm not into child snuff movies. walked out when that kid was horribly murdered. got my money back. everyone that stayed in that theater should have their history looked into by police. high powered people ok'd that scene. Hollywood really is run by murderous pedophiles I guess.

I was very disappointed. Loved the book and understood early on that it would be hard to make a movie out of it. They tried but didnt succeed very well. All over the place, stale acting, very tacky changes from the original story. Not a horror movie, not a drama. Only a good try. 2 out of 5

I was really really sceptical until I heard Flanagan does it. This dude knows what he's doing. Really excited, even though the book lost a bit steam towards the end. (subjective of course)
Would love to see an adaptation of Blaze. Still my fave King novel. Broke my heart.

I prefer the ending to the book to the end of the movie The Book ended beautifully and the ending to the movie should have ended this way they completely ignored one part that albra issues half niece her mother was jack's first child from another marriage

Considering Stephen King loathed the original(which is a masterpiece) and praised the TV movie(which is a disaster, I'm not sure how seriously I should take his criticism.
reply

King is going to praise any adaptation of his books that he has some kind of involvement in. Kubrick didnt want him involved in the original Shining, thats why King didnt like it
