Actors That Directors Refused To Work With Again

P. S. - It was one of the last of the old school tough guy Hollywood directors, John Frankenheimer, who took over and finished the film. I remember at the last shoot he said to the whole cast that he'd never work with Kilmer again, throwing in a pejorative to refer to him. He also had him escorted off the set by security.

People blame the actors, and it often is made to sound like they are the problem, but it sounds like some of these directors have massive egos as well.
When did directing stop being yelling Cut during scenes, and evolve into running the whole show?
Pulling someone's hair during a shoot (like Polanski, an accused child molesteror, did) would upset anyone, and while Faye Dunaway is difficult, you don't pull someone's hair.
David O. Russell is massively unprofessional, and screams at actors on-set. He has had many run-ins with actors before.
Kevin Smith has a whole series of Youtube videos, where he talks about bad encounters he has had with people (e. g. Bruce Willis, Prince etc. As the saying goes It can't always be everyone else's fault.
The fact is, some of these directors are jealous that, deep down, they know it isn't them that people come to see the movie for.

I kinda have to side with Dunaway as far as character motivation. A paycheque can't be anyone's ONLY motivation. When you're an actor in a role, you want to know WHY a character has to or wants to do something or can't do whatever else or your performance feels OFF.
Polanski doesn't sound like he was any day at the beach to work with, either. In not letting Faye go to the bathroom, he was acting more like Tommy Wiseau. He deserved what Faye did to him. I might have done likewise.

Sounds like Polanski not Dunaway was the problem. Peeing in the cup was okay but she shouldn't have thrown it on him, even if he did perhaps deserve it just a little. He's a child rapist anyway. Not much integrity with Mr. Polanski.

Really? You are framing Dunaway as the problem in that interaction? All she did is ask the director to help her with character development and the RAPIST FUGITIVE director told her not to do that and just act for money. Also she wasn't allowed to use the bathroom and that is also proof of insanity? Wow guys. grab a moral compass.

Chevy Chase is proud of being an Asshole. He thought he was the star on SNL and treated all the rest of them like they were dirt under his feet. It was said that Belushi often invited him to meet him in a dark alley where he would kick his ass. He never did. Bill Murray used to tell him where to get off too.

Well there are actors/actresses with mental illnesses like bipolar disorder. Back then it must have been even more taboo than now to talk about these things. They themselves probably didn't even know it.

Wes Anderson was at least professional at how he spoke about Gene Hackman, and simply didn't work with him again, rather than trash him.
Some of these other directors could learn some professionalism.

I heard years ago that Julia Roberts had just went through a horrible breakup during the filming of Hook, which might have added as a factor to her being somber and probably even more hard to work with.
