Looking at plotholes in 'The Simpsons' is pretty silly in my opinion. I mean they change so many things that it's really impossible to keep up. Like the episode where Homer fights George Bush because he spanked Bart. In that episode they were against spankings, but in season 2 Bart climbed over his knee like he was used to being spanked. In season 16 episode 9 Homer tells Marge that he's going to spank Bart.

One explanation for the so called plot holes in the Simpsons is the toaster theory. In Treehouse of Horror V, Homer harnesses the power of a time travelling toaster and travels to alternate universes after altering the past. Essentially, any plot hole is simple an alternate universe that Homer is passing through as he tries to find his way back to his original reality.

I've heard claim that there is an early Simpsons comic which explains all of this. Basically something happens which causes a fracture in time/space. Whenever there is an apparent plot hole like these shown they are really in close but not quite alternate dimension/ realities.

Nerd Ah excuse me Mr Simpson, on the Itchy and scratchy Cd-rom, is there a way to get out of the Dungon without using the wizard key?

I liken every season to an alternate universe where some things have still happened the same whilst allowing for the ages to remain the same and causing continuity to be irrelevant.

How has Homer been able to keep his job at the power plant despite all those odd jobs he's had? It's all because of Mr. Burns, of course.
Don't forget. You're here forever.

And also Homer is actually really intelligent. He just had a crayon up his nose for years which shunted his brain power. This would be another Simpson Gene mistake.

That map showing all the states the Simpsons are banned from(damn near all of em) would be useful tool in determining which state Springfield is in.
