Yet another star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has spoken out about the show's big boss. David Boreanaz, who played Angel both on Joss Whedon's original Buffy show and its popular spin-off Angel, has released a statement regarding allegations of abusive behavior on the set of Buffy. After his co-star Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia, alleged that Whedon hazed and bullied her during and after her pregnancy, Boreanaz took to Twitter to voice his support for Carpenter. Responding to Carpenter's original post on Twitter, Boreanaz wrote, I am here for you to listen and support you. Proud of your strength. Clearly, the two had also been communicating offline prior to that message. Carpenter responded, I know you're there for me, David. I appreciate all you've done to demonstrate that support privately as well. Especially since Wednesday. Thank you so much. Several of Carpenter's Buffy co-stars have spoken out as well, whether they're backing up her claims or simply offering support. Buffy Summers herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, simply wrote, While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don't want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon. I am more focused on raising my family and surviving a pandemic currently, so I will not be making any further statements at this time, but I stand with all survivors of abuse and am proud of them for speaking out. Meanwhile, James Marsters, who played Spike, tweeted, While I will always be honored to have played the character of Spike, the Buffy set was not without challenges. I do not support abuse of any kind, and am heartbroken to learn of the experiences of some of the cast. I send my love and support to all involved. On February 10, Carpenter joined forces with former Whedon colleague Ray Fisher who accused the director of inappropriate behavior on the set of Justice League and posted a lengthy accusation against the director on social media, alongside the hashtag #IStandWithRayFisher. Charisma wrote in her statement, For nearly two decades, I have held my tongue and even made excuses for certain events that traumatize me to this day. Joss Whedon abused his power on numerous occasions while working together on the sets of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. The disturbing incidents triggered a chronic physical condition from which I still suffer. It is with a beating, heavy heart that I say I coped in isolation and, at times, destructively. Carpenter detailed several disturbing incidents with Whedon, many of which were centered around her pregnancy, bringing up several examples: Joss has a history of being casually cruel. He has created hostile and toxic work environments on set since his early career. I know because I experienced it first-hand. Repeatedly. Examples Carpenter alleged included frequent threats to fire her and mocking her body weight, including calling her fat when she was four months pregnant and weighed 126 pounds. She also accused him of fostering a generally hostile work environment, saying, He was mean and biting, disparaging about others openly, and often played favorites, pitting people against one another to compete and vie for his attention and approval. Carpenter also claims that Whedon bullied her about her religious beliefs and her pregnancy, forced her to work late and extensive hours late into her pregnancy, and fired her from the series after she gave birth. She concluded, It is abundantly evident that Joss has persisted in his harmful actions, continuing to create wreckage in his wake. My hope now, by finally coming forward about these experiences, is to create space for the healing of others who I know have experienced similar serialized abuses of power. Michelle Trachtenberg, who portrayed Dawn Summers, provided her own claims, saying that she was now brave enough, as a 35 year old woman, to publicly accuse Whedon of inappropriate behavior. She wrote on Instagram, So now. People know. What Joss. Did. The last. Comment I will make on this. Was. There was a rule. Saying. He's not allowed in a room alone with Michelle again. Joss Whedon did not immediately respond to the allegations.

So Joss Whedon was tough on his cast and crew. That's par for the course in the industry. James Cameron is also said to be demanding and hard to work with. He could not have made such great films without being so driven and demanding.
They point out that he was critical of her appearance. As if that was shallow or bad. But one's appearance is an actor's primary asset. If a role needs you to look a certain way, it only makes sense that you have to continue looking that certain way to keep the role. If having their appearance scrutinized and critiqued causes a person distress, they have no business trying to be an actor. Same if working late hours causes distress, since filming can be demanding and inconsistent in terms of work schedule.

This is so weird. I've been a Buffy fan for decades and I watched all the interviews with cast and crew that I could get my hands on. Several of them have talked about how they would go to Joss' home on Sundays and hang out and sing. The singing became such a big thing that Joss was eventually inspired to write Once More With Feeling - the musical Buffy episode from season 6. Why would several of the cast and crew repeatedly hang out at his home on their day off if he was such a bad guy?

In this day and age of social media ppl who indulge in bad behavior should know better. That said, he did create some of the best stories and characters on screen. Condem the man but don't belittle his contribution to film and television. Too many ppl are ready to boycott everything associated with ppl who get called out.

Very well spoken statements and a good effort towards the right direction. I just hope it s not just for show and is truly sincere and to see better in the future. Hollywood survivors need to speak up and not compromise themselves for a hidden agenda or to please their superiors.

Or maybe, just maybe, she should seek help, perhaps a mental health plan and some therapy to help her cope and move on from past hardships. I mean, we're not talking about rape here, it's verbal harassment. And to be fair to all of us non-famous people, this happens to everyone.

I'd like to hear from the people who have worked with Joss, many times, over the years. So many actresses and actors (in Firefly, for example) continued to work over, and over again with him. If someone was so toxic, would you continue to have him (repeatedly) as your boss?

Ohh boo hoo, I really do not care if these snowflakes had their feelings hurt on the set of TV show. How about look outside of your self at everyone else in the world which ACTUALLY have to deal with real stress. Could give two shits about any of these allegations.

Where are those who worked with him repeatedly on different shows or movies, and still do?
I mean, if they still act for his films I guess they must feel safe with him!
Ho, and I guess Kubrick and Hitchcock wouldn't be allowed to work nowadays

Mmm. There has to be a Statute of limitations against this sort of stuff.
It is ridiculous how many people come out 20 or 30 yrs later with unprovable accusations against Stars when they have become successful. and theirs have faded into obscurity.
