The Real Reason The Last Voyage Of The Demeter Bombed At The Box Office

Universal's The Last Voyage of the Demeter bombed at the box office after it opened on August 11. So why did the Dracula on a boat flick flop so hard? CJS: I like how no one is mentioning the fact that Robert Eggers the director or the VVitch, the lighthouse & the Northman is filming a remake of Nosferatu which is going to be an amazing Gothic horror film that isn't just all CGI & effects. Practical effects are always better. Blockbuster movies have become bland & overdone

I might have to wait for a digital release, but be clear that Universal is still trying to create a shared universe with their Monsters property, but what did I say? It s not going to happen. Remember Dracula Untold, Van Helsing, The Wolfman, and let s not forget about Tom Cruise s ill-fated reboot of The Mummy. These films didn t connect with either critics and audiences and lost so much money at the box office. They release Demeter to a muted crowd because Universal haven t learned anything from the doomed so-called Dark Universe and when it s dead, so to was the paying tickets. Also, fans aren t interested in going to see a staled adaptation of Dracula, look at what Barbie did. Grossed a billion dollars and Oppenheimer continues to be a juggernaut. That tells you that Demeter should ve been releasing during the Halloween season, instead they put it into the Summer and it was a bad marketing ploy by the studio.

I always liked the idea of Vampires being extremely hot like in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles.
You know, it's easier to hunt your prey when you look like the irresisteble bait.
Gary Oldman was pretty stylish in the movie Bram Stoker's Dracula. Fancy clothes, good manners and all.
But Gary Oldman doesn't have the face.
I have seen so many monsters in movies and this Dracula could be from any random horror movie. Like a Resident Evil or whatever.
Hot monsters are rare.
Thinking of Jerry Dandrigde (Colin Ferell) from Fright Night.
T. H. I. S. is how Dracula should look!
Not going to a movie for stage 5 cancer boy.

Bad timing.
This isa Halloween Movie.
I don't get why Hollywood has so many experts for everything but operates on such a low skill level. In every aspect.
Most jobs in Hollywood are jobs that can be learned in schools and colleges but somehow A LOT of employees in Hollywood seem to know what they are supposed to do.
Imagine a brain surgeon has no clue about his job on a Hollywood screenwriter or marketing manager level.
Yikes

theater sucks! expensive, lots of assholes and i get a better quality on my home 4k projector! i rather wait for home release. they should have waited for halloween. i had my recent movie experience with Oppenheimer wasnt a good one, overhyped documentary! was enough for a while or until the Creator comes out.

I am thinking, as well, there is no tension. Everyone knows the ship comes empty of survivors into port. If my memory of BS's Dracula is correct. I dont want to watch a movie like this, where I just watch people more or less skillfully avoid being killed before the next guy.

To me honestly it is definitely the fact that they made Dracula just a monster, in humanoid bat form. Could have been better if Dracula kept his sentience in the movie. Maybe switch between human and monster form.

I hope nobody gets the Idea to turn the belived anime Hellsing into a LiveAction.
I hated what they did to Death Note.
But an animated movie with Alucard would be AWESOME!

This film was simply dropped into theaters, with no real publicity about it ahead of time. It was an orphan. Maybe it will get it's due when it goes to streaming.

I liked it a lot. A fresh take on the vampire genre. The atmosphere and tension were top notch. The acting and effects were great also.

I thought it s a great scary movie! The vampire(Dracula) was an incredible monster. The ship and actors did their job.
