Top 10 Best Songs from Hairspray (2007)

The movie Hairspray had so many great songs! For this list, were taking a look at songs from this hit movie musical that still have us shaking and shimmying. Weve excluded songs from the original stage production that didnt make it into the film. So sadly, no Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now. Weve included songs like Run and Tell that, Big Blonde and Beautiful, Without Love, Welcome to the 60s, The Nicest Kid in Town, Good Morning Baltimore and You Cant Stop the Beat!

Two huge problems I have with this list.
1: The fact that Miss Baltimore Crabs was only number 8! Like, I get that Velma Von Tussle is a terrible person, but shes such a good villain, and she was played so flawlessly by Michelle Pfeiffer, and she has like the best villain song ever! Thats just a personal opinion.
2: The fact that I Know Where Ive Been wasnt even on this list, and its easily like one of the best songs from the whole movie! Easily top 3 for me. And its so annoying that the narrator literally says that they chose Big, Blonde, and Beautiful over I Know Where Ive Been because it has more spunk to it. But I Know Where Ive Been has so much more to it than spunk could ever give it. Not to mention the outstanding vocals from Queen Latifah.

While I am glad Run and Tell That was on the list it should have been in the top five, I can Hear the Bells definitely belongs on this list and I Know Where Ive been should definitely be somewhere on this list maybe taking the place of Ms. Baltimore Crabs. On another note though I absolutely loved how accepting Corny was and how ready he was to embrace change and how he was fully in favor of integration, and yes Without Love is an amazing song, also yeah New Girl In Town deserves to either be on the list or as an honorable mention

The part when Edna mentions Let me know when you can get blood out of upholstery, that you can take to the bank is a reference to John's role in Pulp Fiction for those who wondered about references to previous films. As well as the fact that nearly every film John is involved in, musical or otherwise, has a dance sequence as a reference to his origins as a dancer.

The ONLY thing you got right was putting You Cant Stop The Beat in #1. I Know Where Ive Been should have been #2, and Run And Tell That #3. The others dont matter that much but Miss Baltimore Crab was painful to listen to during the movie. It had no place on this list.

When the musical opened on Broadway, I was aghast to learn that there was barely hint of The Madison in the intermission score. Though I've made peace with it in the years since, Hairspray without The Madison was akin to The Rocky Horror Picture Show without The Time Warp.

This movie is sooo fun - my grandparents lived in Baltimore in the 60s so its always interesting knowing that this was what their young adult hood. well more like adult hood was like ( I mean my dad was born in the 60s.

Guys this movie changed my life it was so upbeat and positive, songs, characters, and story are all so good I remember the date I saw it and Im now working in theatre hoping to put work on this production one day
reply

Ok you cannot count It Takes Two it was barely in the movie. I Know Where Ive been should have been in the top three its one of the most powerful songs in the show and its message still rings true today.
reply

I always have my heart dancing with Good Morning Baltimore, Welcome to the 60s and New girl in town. But I can not hold my tears everytime I listen to You can't stop the beat. Don't even know why.
reply

For me I Know Where I've Been should have at the very least been mentioned. While I love Big Blonde and Beautiful, IKWIB is the heart of the show for me - and so relevant even today
reply

Disappointed that I Know Where I've Been isn't on this list. Yes, Big, Blonde and Beautiful is a good song but the other one is the most moving part of the film and the original musical.
reply

Actually I pretty much loved every song in this movie except for Ms. Baltimore Crabs which I am actually more indifferent to, I dont dislike it but I love the rest of the songs.
reply

I'm surprised you guys didn't mention how in (The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs, the so-called 'nicest kids in town' are actually just as mean-spirited and narrowminded as Velma.
reply

My ranks going
1. welcome to the sixties
2. I can hear the bells
3. Good morning Baltimore
4. Without love
5. New girl in town
6. I know where Ive been

reply

Am i the only one whose favourite is nicest kids in town? Ive been scrolling through the comments for ages and havent seen a single person mention it! Its just such a bop
reply

This movie wouldve had a lot more popularity if Mama Mia didnt come out literally the next year. Seriously Mama Mia isnt even good yet it lived on for 4 more years.
reply

I knew I loved the show just as the Good Morning Baltimore scene played. The scene of Tracy riding a garbage truck to school I LOL'ed so hard in the theater.
reply

Cant stop the beat, timeless to me, I know where Ive been, and ms Baltimore crabs are my fav songs (Baltimore crabs cuz it sounds really good)
reply

Did you catch the actress steadying Tracy as she backs up in Miss Baltimore Crabs? She caught a camera cord with her heel, seldom see that in movies.
reply

Youre timeless to me shouldve been at least in the top 7, that was the best song for me (apart from Welcome to the 60s and you cant stop the beat)
reply

Dear Ms Mojo - please revisit this whole musical in the context of 2020. Maybe all musicals viewed through right now, though this one is so today
