The San Francisco version of _Lestat_ was actually pretty decent. The projections, for one, were incredible. Carolee Carmello as Gabrielle absolutely stole the show, as did Allison Fischer as Claudia. Drew Sarich as Armand was simply delicious. Michael Genet as Marius will always puzzle me, though.
The Broadway version of _Lestat_ was massively stripped down and, sadly, camped up. I wish it had kept the San Francisco aesthetic, and that it had been _actually_ improved.

If you compare the Broadway-production of Dracula (can be found here on YT) with for example the German-productions in Graz (2007, can also be found here on YT) or, more recent, in Ulm (2021, available on DVD/Blu-ray, you'll see that the problem seems to be the way the show was staged on Broadway and parts of the cast. Hewitt isn't bad as Dracula, but no match to Borchert's interpretation of the count.

It's worth mentioning that the original production of Carrie was the flop they were talking about. The clips they are showing are from the recent revival which was a complete rework. The music is outstanding (imo) and did significantly better off Broadway and off West End. The original is indeed an absolute mess but the revival is stunning. If you have Spotify then it's well worth listening to.

See, the issue with Dance of the Vampires is that they didnt stick to the original at all. That is the primary reason it failed. The German production is beautiful and quite well done, but instead they butchered Steinmans work to the point that he even renounced the show as a true Tanz der Vampire musical.
And I personally loved Dracula, but I might be biased as I love Frank Wildhorn.

Dont judge me but I actually thought that Spiderman: Turn off the Dark was an ok musical. Sure it had way too many villains and the script was kinda mediocre, but for me personally, I loved all the songs in it and Rise Above is my fav. Honestly, I thought it was better than the Amazing Spiderman movies. Just wanted to get this out cause a lot of critics seem to trash on it.

The original Carrie the Musical honestly (I think) is underrated. Like, these people work their asses off to give the audience an enjoyable show, only to fed with backlash. Recreating a Stephen King novel onstage has clearly been proven to be extremely difficult to do. It still flopped though, but the 2012 revival proved that Carrie actually makes a great musical.

Tanz der Vampire was such a good musical! The sets, costumes, vocals and more are so clever and work so well! But the Dance of the Vampires, changed key points in the plot, tried to make it a comedy, cast Micheal Crawford when he was definitely the wrong pick and the sets and costumes were so tacky! Thats why it failed

While only an honorable mention- it is worth mentioning that as far as Via Galactica goes- the show was so bad in part because no one could make sense of its confusing plot. Even when it was decided to include a plot synopsis with the playbill, people STILL couldnt understand the show

I genuinely like the original broadway cast of Carrie. They were a really talented group, it's honestly a shame that they didn't run for a while. The revival did do better though, and lots of high schools and community theatre groups perform Carrie now, which I think is great.

Tanz der vampire isn't a movie not translating to stage problem, the problem was broadway changed everything that made tanz der vampire special. They removed dark themes, added flashy choreography and ruined it. Same with Dracula, which is also an amazing musical.

Ok bombs can still be good as having bomb status means said musical tanked and lost money. Many of these have been successful in revivals I did like some of these and some were truly awful. Shrek the Musical? Moose Murders was a play.

I saw Dance of the Vampires on Broadway. The cast was actually amazing, the material was so so. I also saw Gorey Stories back in the late 70s ) I love Edward Gorey but the audiences just didn't so much. It had 1 performance.

Considered one of the flops in 1981 due to negative reviews by the public and after 16 performances it closed, Merrily We Roll Along turned into a beautiful revival on Broadway with Harry Potter himself Daniel Radcliffe.

Carrie was actually good. The music was great, the actors were pretty good (Linzi and Beety slayed it. Sure, maybe the costumes, set, and Special effects weren't that great, but I still think it was a great musical.

Dance of the Vampires (English adaptation) is unrecognisable from the original German version.
The Vienna original production is played totally straight, while the NYC version was played like a spoof.

Spiderman Turn off the dark ran for over 3 years. It was just too expensive to run with the insurance needed after multiple accidents by performers during the long development process.

Pipe Dream was in 1955, hardly early in the careers of Rodgers & Hammerstein! Also (worth repeating) Moose Murders was NOT a musical at all. Very shameless oversights for this mandate!

Dracula was really god at the La jolla playhouse in San Diego California.
The playhouse does magic with there lighting.
The spirt of Gregory Peck lets them do magic.

While it was a flop in 1988, the 2012 revival of Carrie is absolutely incredible. The casting is superior, the voices are incredible, and the storyline follows the book so well.

Tanz der vampire is a perfect musical, but something really bad happened with dance of the vampires. I wish they just sticked to the original script and directions

Just a quick note- all the footage of Carrie the Musical in this video is from the 2012 Off-Broadway Revival, but it was the original show in 1988 that really flopped.

Where's The Bag? You know. The Guinness Book of World Records holder as the biggest flop of all time? Where there were no one to see the opening night?

What about merrily we roll along. That's the biggest one for me. Why did it flop, with stephen sondheim into the mix, it was a guaranteed success but it's not.

#1 isn't even a musical. This is the worst compilation ever. It's like interns did research and some one with no knowledge of theatre wrote it.

There's one thing you got wrong on #1, Moose Murders wasn't a Musical, it was a play. The real Musical that should be on the #1 spot was Carrie (1988.

Anyone Can Whistle (1964) was another major flop, closing after 9 Broadway performances. It was Angela Lansbury's first stage performance.
