In Tom and Jerry, theres an episode called Heavenly Puss. Tom and Jerry get into their usual shenanigans. Tom tries to kill Jerry only to be outwitted. Tom chases Jerry up the stairs, which results in a piano tipping down and crushing Tom. Instead of popping back like normal, Tom dies. No seriously. His spirit goes up an escalator to the gates of cat heaven. There he sees a line of newly deceased cats at the toll booth kept by cat saint Peter. One by one they are let in. Then he calls up Fluff, Muff, and Puff. (For those who dont know, those are the three kittens who occasionally show up in the series and tormented both Tom and Jerry one episode) Anyway, we hear the sound of water sloshing around. Cat saint Peter looks down, and the camera cuts to show what he is looking at. Its a soaking wet bag hopping up to the booth which opens up to reveal the three kittens.

There was one episode of Powerpuff Girls that scarred my friend and I for life. It was the one with the zombie magician who was killed by a little girl who looked exactly like Blossom and so he tried to hunt Blossom down to kill her. I skipped the episode and my friend never watched Powerpuff Girls again. Recently I was watching the Voltron Reboot and in season six (spoiler warning) the characters find out there are a bunch of Alteans who were under Lotor's protection. He would take the Alteans with more quintessance to the second colony which was really a lab where he sucked the literal life out of them leaving them lifeless husks that are actually shown on screen in test tubes and I remember thinking this would've scarred me for life as a kid. Wow. I appreciate it tho.

The entirety of Failsafe of Young Justice is very dark. When your episode begins with Superman, Batman and other Justice League heavy hitters dying in space to a hostile alien army and then that army invading Earth and killing of the rest of the League within 5 minutes, you know its gonna get dark. Even the end where its revealed to have been a mental training exercise gone horribly wrong is traumatic because the characters have to deal with the trauma of living through that in their minds. Hell the series itself even acknowledges how bad it is and has the characters receive therapy in the next episode to deal with the issues this episode raised.
Young Justice was pretty dark in general but Failsafe was just another level.

Its a short moment, but Dinosaurs has a dark moment in season 2 episode 3 when the Sinclairs are watching a dating game show and the female on the show goes on a rant about how awful her date was and the host says they should ask the male, but when they pan over he is swinging from the ceiling. Two episodes later Earl Sinclair spends all the families money on presents for Fridge Day only to find out that he will not receive his holiday bonus which sends him into a depression. This depression over his irresponsibility and lack of ability to provide for his family leads him to say that hes going to the garage to hang myself twice in one scene.

The darkest moment in a cartoon would be an episode of Jem and the Holograms called the fan which has the misfits hiring actors to play Jerricas loved ones and luring Jerrica in a replica of Starlight mansion to which they almost cause her to have a mental break down to reveal her identity.
Theres also a two part episode of G. I. Joe called theres no place like Springfield that has Shipwreck being tortured and gaslighted by cobra with fake replicas of his friends and also having him believe that Lady Jaye dies while cobra also had the replicas of his friends melted as they were synthoid copies.

oh come on tmnt 2012 buried secrets an honorable mention, that should be on the list, how about the creep, dream beavers heck even the whole tmnt episodes like the curse of savanti romero, the crypt of Dracula, frankenteins monter, and monters among us is super scary I consider it my favorite horror movie, and owari, requiem, even the tale of tiger claw they cut his hand on screen and they show the meat inside literally.

Honestly, as a kid, I would not watch the Avatar the Last Airbender. The whole plot was sad to me. That is why I was happy when Xiaolin Showdown came out. It was more fun and still had some sad moments but for the most part, it was light-hearted. I watch Avatar now but ist still is just sad and stressful to watch: , < It is still a great show though.
