Okay ( literally) 90% of these are bs but most deception experts agree, if a story has way too many needless, arbitrary details, then the person is usually lying. The police always say, if your suspect keeps answering questions that you didn't ask, then you probably have the right guy. We tend to forget the tiny details of a given situation. It's just how the brain sorts through the endless information it's onslaughted with on a daily basis but if someone can tell you everything that happened, with stunning detail, It's normally because they rehearsed their story repeatedly. Beats polygraphs every time.

Cosmo contributes to a negative culture of insecurity and inferiority. These types of publications are one of the contributing reasons (especially before social media) of why so many teen girls get eating disorders and depression, and get unrealistic expectations and standards of their own bodies and of relationships. It's one of the pieces of media that profit off of women and girl's insecurities. They are the ones being exploited.

Okay, the too detailed thing, is just a common tell of lying. People tend to add tiny, insignificant details (in excess) to try to make their story seem believable. Sorry Im late, my power was out so I had no hot water so I had to go to my gym to shower and I was with my power company for hours. Its always just a good idea to keep it simple, its more believable (speaking as someone who has a pathological liar in my family.

I'm in a 5 years old long distance relationship.
Best relationship advice I can give is communication. If you think your relationship is going down talk to each other. Communication can make your relationship stronger and it also replace distrust.

Good grief, does anyone actually still READ this garbage? I'd trust the advice of a room full of kindergarteners over this drivel. No wonder having a healthy relationship is the equivalent of winning the lottery, with this kind of idiocy being pushed.

best relationship advice i got was from a guy friend - assuming we are all adults -
he said, suck his d, do it better than anyone,
but we still broke up about 6 years later. maybe bc i just didn't want to anymore

reply

The bit about people peppering their stories with unnecessary and intricate details is actually a tell that someone is lying. It's a way that we becoming more convincing liars. It is still farfetched to say they are cheating, though.
reply

If you think your partner is cheating on you then trust and/or insecurity is likely your issue. Those two things are the foundation of any relationship, without them it will always fall apart.

Anyone that uses Cosmo as a guide for life is an idiot. If I am in a doctors office and have a choice between Cosmo or Field & Stream, I will choose the latter, and I'm a woman.
reply

No wonder I hear so many crazy stories about women doing crazy or dumb stuff to their ex/boyfriends. Women are getting bad advice from this
reply

10 things do do if you think your man is cheating is an ok title, but it should really be 10 things to do if u want to get arrested sounds better
reply

Cosmopolitan is why many women wander the world alone wondering Where have all the good men gone? Is there no chivalry left in this world?
reply

You forgot about their bad AIDS- prevention tips they gave back in the 80s.
Cosmos just about as believable as The National Inquirer

reply

Actually the manscaping one is not all wrong. My ex use to shave down there when he goes out of town or a friend is in town.
reply

ahh cosmo forever giving women relatioship paranoia and more unrealistic relationship expectations than any matthew mcaugnahy movie
reply

Tbh I would ask why hes all happy, if he didnt have an answer I wouldnt go on a whole investigation, I would let him be happy
reply

I've actually found some really good dating tips in Cosmopolitan, but, then again, I've never dated, so what do I know? xD
reply

I was thinking of the Just Shoot Me scene changes. I always suspected their advice was more useful than the real thing.
reply

Really not sure why you are showing scenes from movies instead of showing the articles, maybe you think we cant read?
reply

One sign he's cheating: There happens to be another woman in your bed, at the same time YOU are in his bed!
reply

One of My Biggest, Biggest Fears. is Discovering that My GF actually, actually believes in Cosmopolitan's Tips.
reply

And this is why current feminism is shallow.
Only focusing on the bad men, but avoiding the horrible women.

reply

Who wrote these articles? Certainly not someone confident in their abilities to maintain a healthy relationship
reply

Well Cosmo is a feminist man hating company so Im not surprised about all the cheating shit they came up with.
reply

My brother-in-law is very detailed about the stories he tells. So hes cheating on everyone he talked to?
reply

If you are taking relationship advice from a magazine then there are other issues that need to be dealt with.
reply

So. maybe women aren't actually psycho. perhaps it's garbage like this that steers them towards crazytown.
reply

I will definitely be finding ways to work pole vaulting over plausibility into everyday conversations.
