People need to stop saying Derek shouldnt have died. here's why!
Patrick Dempsey wanted to leave which means he had to be written off the show.
They spent most of season 11 showing what would happen if Derek leaves Meredith. he will always end up coming back. If they make Derek and Meredith have a huge fight and split up, they would be ruining one of the BEST TV couples who everyone loved and the fans would be furious at the writers.
That's why the best way for Derek to exit the show was to die.
He died right after saving 4 people with supplies from a car.
That was the best way to write off Derek because Meredith and Derek were always meant to live together till the day they die.
They took their post-it vows VERY SERIOUSLY

Derek had some negative traits I would've struggled with a lot, but based on their genuine chemistry, my heart breaks for Mer.
I personally would've chosen Dr. Finn, though, because having a relationship with a coworker is just something I can't do. (Which is why Meredith's speech about boundaries from somewhere around the pilot hit me.
Finn seemed like the safer choice, too. But alas, schedule not aligning and everything would've ruined them.

There's a scene where Derek and Mark are in surgery. Derek gets a message or a call of some kind involving Meredith. Then Mark tells the intern/resident that Dr. Shepherd is going to put down his instruments and that the other doctors would walk that person through how to finish the surgery. But I can't recall what situation that was, or even which season. Does anyone recall?

The way Derek looks at Meredith. Patrick and Ellen had such amazing chemistry no one can compare.
Also, when Meredith drowns! I only rewatch the first few seasons of this show every once in a while but I can never get over those episodes. Patrick's acting was on point! And those episodes get me every time because of him.

Everyone is so mad at Shonda but I will NEVER forgive Patrick for leaving the show because Shonda had to work around him and it may have been harsh but PATRICK KILLED DEREK. he might as well have been driving the truck
