ok, the song A Diagnosis is NOT meant to offer a glimmer of hope that things can get better with the right diagnosis. quite the opposite. It actually parodies the obsession with diagnostic labels and the belief that once someone is diagnosed properly, everything magically falls into place. As subsequent episodes illustrate, and as the entire show explicitly posits it's more nuanced than that. It takes hard work, trial and error, relapses, several steps forward, a few steps back, and it's constant hard work.

I really wish this spent less time giving shallow explanations of songs that have rather complex statements such as 'sisterhood' and 'let's generalize about men' and delved further into how the show tries to destigmatize mental illness. I was starting to get excited when they were showing 'You do/ you don't want to be crazy' and delve into how the show address the mixed messages of what the word 'crazy' means in the media and society. Unfortunately there was no further examination.

Every time I see a glimpse of Rebecca's attempted suicide, I cry. When I first watched the episode, I was on some bad meds. They weren't helping at all. I was considering taking more than I should. And then she called the flight attendant, and I burst into tears. This show, although very outlandish, made it easier for me to cope with my own BPD. Especially since her near death made me pursue special help more seriously. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is such a great show, I'm upset it ended. XD

It is very frustrating to see the amazing work of Rachel Bloom and the other show creators be misrepresented in this way. When I was a camp councilor we had code japan to communicate that one of the female participants or councilors was on her period and needed to be accommodated (with hygiene products or to be excused from activities, etc) because the Japanese flag is white with a red spot in the center. The song diagnosis is more about the irrational feeling of being well, when she actually isnt. Because, BPD makes you think you are well, when you arent necessarily ok. Thats my take on it, as someone with BPD.

I think it's not has such feminist content Cause the show makes fun of extreme attitudes, just like those teens singing put yourself first FOR HIM. It just makes fun of the feminist attitude which is not really feminist. Also let's generalize about men actually makes fun of WOMEN who really believe the stereotypes about men.

I teach screenwriting (and am also a working screenwriter) and always encourage my students to watch and study this series. Endlessly entertaining and insightful. I wonder how many men watch it? As a man, there are times I get a little uncomfortable with some aspects, but I always appreciate the point they are making.

The people who made this list has misunderstood aspects of the songs and the show. Especially missed some of the sarcasm. The show is definitely very feminist, but also a lot more complex in its view of the subject than that video suggests (by missing the sarcasm of various songs.

This show is so incredibly important to me. Its helped me with a lot because I relate with a lot of what Rebecca has. Rachel bloom is so talented and such an amazing person and Im so happy she is doing what shes doing because it is really needed in this world.

It's interesting that this show is so liberal when the city it's located at which is West Covina is so conservative. West Covina was the only city in the San Gabriel Valley to have Donald Trump signs on their front lawns during the 2016 elections!
