In Carrie's defense, she loved him, but she said she needed more time. Forget about pushing her into marriage when she wasn't ready, Aidan wanted to lock it down because he didn't trust her. Not good on his part. Carrie messed up the first time when she cheated, but Aidan wasn't patient, and he was the one who chose to leave. Carrie did nothing wrong. Plus, his underlying reason for marrying so soon into their second go-around was to show the world (i. e. Big) he has her.
No matter how good of a guy he was, the two just weren't meant to be. They were two different people in different places in their lives. Carrie wanted love AND her independence. Aidan wanted marriage, family, and a stable home life, and there's nothing wrong with either for wanting those things. People vilify Carrie too much here.

i was reading a book about attachment theory and i belive carrie is the anxious type, while aiden either anxious or secure. more likely secure due to the ease he has with dealing with her ups and down. meanwhile, big is avoidant. the thing is that ancious people tend to date avoidant more often bc they feel this rush of dopamine, the unknown of when will i get my next dose, his ambiguity, stringing her along, seperation of intimacy, wanna find the right one but its not you, while with an secure type, it would be easy, certain, no confusion and carrie just wasnt used to the lack of issues, the lack of up and downs, the lack of rushes of dopamine. therefor she couldnt handle someone open to receive, open to be just as intimate as she always wanted etc

Carrie didn't deserve Aiden. If she had married him, she definitely would've cheated on him with Big again. Broke his heart a 2nd time. He was well shot of her! Was so glad when she met him and he was married with a baby and happy. While she was still moaning and groaning about every guy she met and hanging on for Big. She was so horrible to Aiden, don't know how he put up with her for so long! Especially her screaming

What no one likes to hear is, you have to be READY to get to the guy like Aiden. Most of us are not even if we think we are. And we have to go through a few bigs before that happens. Only if this molds us into better people. If not, we will keep bumping into Big. Which is what happened to Carrie. She and big are almost twins which is he settled for her because no on else accepted his bs
reply

No offence but no New York big shot guy like Big would consider Carrie marriage material, so it's fairly accurate how their relationship was. They just never would've ended up together like in the show. Aiden and Carrie never would've ended up. together either. Carrie should've ended the series as a single woman but then running into a future love potential leaving us on suspense.

Lame excuse- yeah, she likes clubbing and dressing up- this can't go on forever. Anyone who can't enjoy the outdoors at all and a cozy cabin getaway is an immature princess. Even a self-proclaimed city girl needs to recharge their batteries and enjoy nature once in a while. It's not like he was taking her to a falling down shack with an outhouse! She's always been pathetic.

Yes. Carrie is problematic chaotic complicated insecure. Surely Aiden is best. N big was worse. but. not always the right things are right for you. No matter however things are good on paper. love can't be forced. N she never actually loved Aiden even though he was perfect. Carrie is obviously the weaker part of a person. which everyone can resonate with

I completely disagree. from the beginning Aiden wanted to change Carrie. Sure he was nice and Im not talking about the smoking. Im talking about pushing her boundaries on things she was ready for. Everything was always in Aidens terms. Im not saying Big was perfect. but he was pretty clear from the beginning and loved Carrie AS she was.

Carrie was trashy in many ways but her individualism is exactly what made her an icon. Even with good intentions in heart, we all hurt a few people in our lives. And even if staying Big was messy, Carrie was sure she wanted him. That's why every other guy came and left but Mr Big was there the whole time
reply

Even though Aiden was a better guy than Big, he and Carrie in the long run were incompatible and never would have lasted. Even Aiden tried to change Carrie and wanted her to conform more to his ways, it wouldn't have worked. Despite their problems, Carrie and Big were the better match.
reply

Aiden tried to change Carrie into his dream girl. Country girl slopping the hogs, babies in arms, and slaving over a hot kettle. It was so selfish and delusional. Of Aiden. I couldn't understand Carrie going along with his fantasy why didn't her loud mouth take over that time?
reply

Carrie will never be happy because she wants the excitement of her single life for the rest of her life. Even Big showed in the second movie that he was ready to settle down and take it easy. That wasnt exciting enough for her. She will always have wandering eyes.
reply

I thought Aiden was beyond annoying. He was way too controlling with Carrie trying to make her something she is not. He never wanted to go out dancing with Carrie, and knowing she is a city girl, tried to push his country shack with no water on her.
reply

I its inevitable that they weee going to break up. They wanted two completely different lifestyles. Her going back to him in AJLT after shes slowed down and Big died is really unfair to Aidan. She with him now because shes ready to live life slower.
reply

I would love to be with Aiden. He's defiantly my type, i prefer a guy who is willing to take it slow. And spending an evening sitting on the couch and watching tv or playing video games is defiantly what I prefer, i hate dressing up and going out.
reply

The writers didn't HAVE to write Aidan off. They could've ended up together if they didn't have such a hard on for Big who treated her like crap. He blew her off for like 8 years. Even Candace Bushnell hated that she ended up with Big.
reply

My guy is an Aidan. I always wanted one like him. And I finally found him 1 year ago. Although my ex was a Mr. Big and even worse than that. Sooo glad hes out and done from my life once and for all. These people are toxic
reply

Ive been rewatching the series this week after many MANY years and in all honesty Carrie is so different to me now that Im a 30-something. Shes totally selfish, egotistical and self-centred. She never deserved Aidan!
reply

Never would have happened. She loved the idea of Aiden, she only ever loved Mr. Big. Aiden wanted marriage, and she didnt well she did but only with Mr. Big. Also remember Aiden wanted kids and she didnt
reply

No no no, please no. burger was never a potential life partner for Carrie. he was annoying all along. not only Carrie, he was not suitable for any of the girls, even for equally annoying Charlotte.
reply

These two are pretty deeply incompatible.
Bingo!
They would've ended up trying to change each other and making one another deeply unhappy. IMHO.
(BTW, Tater was played by SJP's son. )

If you really think about it, a big reason why so many, myself included, loves Aidan so much is cause hes a total Gary Stu - the writers didnt give him any flaws. Same thing with Harry.
reply

Carrie is a selfish, narcissist, entitled btch. She doesn't care about her boyfriends nor her friends. She treated her friends like crap, specially Stanford. She deserves to be alone.
reply

Carrie would have been so bored and eventually unhappy with Aiden. But honestly, even though Aiden treated her the best, I think he liked the idea of Carrie more than Carrie herself.
reply

She would have had at least 1 or 2 kids with him. He was the better man. Apparently on and off the screen. However, she ALWAYS wanted Big. She didn't want the good guy.
reply

Um Carrie and Big kinda suck as partners so they deserve each other
Aiden is a good man. Carrie knows she doesn't deserve that because she doesn't love herself

reply

What about the time Aiden tried to take her apartment away from her knowing she didn't have enough money, that's not best for her as she loves that apartment
reply

He was way too good for her but I think she would have been happy and had cute kids and some cool furniture but the writers have to cram big down our throats meh
reply

Some women deserves men that keeps them on their toes. Good guys are just too boring and easy. She wants to work for it, to be worth it.
reply

Carrie and Big deserve each other, Carrie don't deserve Aidan, still I loved their relationship: '. (Sorry for the mistakes my english is bad)
