I get it but I think days supercedes gh. I already knew they would be 1 and 2 didn't know which order. I thought y and r would be top 3 not above days but possibly above gh but I completely somehow forgot about THE Erica Kane she automatically puts her show top 5. Should all my children be above y&r, days, and gh again MAYBE GH. Im good with everything 5 and down. I guess the top 3 or 4 could be very subjective any true soap watcher and I didn't even watch y & r but just about all of my family did. I watched days, gh, all my children, another world as a child, and of course passions I was a NBC girl who at the end of being interested in soaps became a ABC girl never a CBS girl. But im putting y&r top 3 got to. I'm putting days 1. So that's gh and all my children. For me it's all my children at the 2 spot if I'm being COMPLETELY subjective. It is my second favorite soap all time. There were times where I was more interested in one than the other. But I was watching days in my mother's stomach or listening she said the moment I could crawl and I heard the like sands through the hour glass these (or was it so or here) are the days of our lives, I would crawl my little but to the TV plop down and stay there. Days is the reason I watched another world until it's end and passions as well. In fact passions was my very first aol email address lol. Looking back thank goodness I wasn't preyed upon because I use to use that in some way for screen names. Thanks to the soap opera. I had it for screen names up until I started working and would use the email go apply online being naive not realizing how that may look and having to explain my love for canceled soap lol. Anyway mostly subjective (because i always have to have a little objectivity otherwise passions another world and guidling light would come before y&r) lineup 1. Days 2. all my children 3. General hospital 4. Y&r completely objective lineup 1. days 2. Y&r 3. All my children 4. general hospital im considering popularity (both highly intense at one time and typical popularity over the long term separately but both as part of my ranking equation, supercouples, popularity of its most popular characters, longevity, I did not look at numbers so I suppose it's still not completely objective but im thinking about historically what which soap since I can remember was on different tvs at relatives homes in salons dr offices etc. When soaps were fading which names did the young kids know (y&r) big reason why it's 2, when I ask about specific storylines days of our lives was most memorable for most many knew bo and hope, Sami, Erica Kane, Victor Newman, John and Marlene, Kimberly and patch, gh had the more younger notable super couples and of course Luke and Laura. To me the top soap super couples are between bo and hope Luke and Laura 2 most famous daytime American soap super couples but bo and hope got some backup in John and Marlene, patch and kim, Shane and Kayla, Jennifer and Jack, Doug and Julie days did a fantastic job with the romances and couples and storylines and lastly lastly you can't judge a soap without judging its villains. Stefano dimera, Vivian Alamain, Kristen dimera and the bad girls who were more anti heros and sometimes straight up villains Vivian, Sami, Kate, Nicole, and then you have Kristen who is most of the time a straight up none sympathetic villan lol and it's delicious.

WatchMojo was right about All My Children having a sizable male audience. It was popular with footballers and, at one point in the 1970s, about a quarter of its audience was men. I happen to be one of those dudes. I got into it thanks to my mom since she watched All My Children from 1972-2007 and then tuned in again for its final months in 2011 and for the 2013 reboot. I watched All My Children from 1991-2011 and the 2013 reboot. The first major story arc I recall was Natalie in the well. Here were my top ten favorite couples:
1. Hayley and Mateo
2. Tad and Dixie
3. Leo and Greenlee
4. David and Anna
5. Edmund and Maria
6. Ryan and Gillian
7. Noah and Julia
8. Jack and Erica
9. Jesse and Angie
10. Dimitri and Erica (their 1992 story in Budapest influenced me to visit Budapest in November/2019)
Few other notes from me:
Favorite Male Character: Tad Martin
Favorite Female Character: Erica Kane
Favorite Storyline: Erica's addiction to painkillers
I'll always be a diehard All My Children and Susan Lucci fan

This is super hard for me because honestly I could make a case for most of these Soaps.
Y&R: The reason I got hooked on soaps. The perfect mix of glamour and drama.
In one word. fabulousness!
AMC: I don't know if they find their actors cuz they've always had the best actors on daytime.
OLTL: My favorite soap of all time. It had everything. And it had a great teen angle that had 14 year-old me glued to the screen. I bawled like a baby when it got canceled and still watch clips to this day.
B&B: Draws you in like no other. Careful you'll get hooked real easy.
GH: Consistently has amazing characters and storylines and the only reason I didn't quit soaps after AMC and OLTL were canceled.
I wasn't a big GL or Days fan so I'm not commenting on them.
My list:
1. OLTL
2. Y&R
3. GH
4. AMC
5. B&B

I was born watching Days Of Our Lives and saw Passions its whole NBC run I just turned 4 when it premiered in summer of 1999. The guy who did NBC Daytime in his extremely deep voice would narrate what was currently happening on both soaps. After Passions ended in on NBC in 2007 started watching OLTL on ABC from 2007/08 to 2012 I saw a little of the Hulu episodes the fallowing year. Started watching GH September 2011 as they were taking off OLTL despite being the highest rating soap on the network and was even leading Days at that point.

Love Days, as fun and kooky as Passions was I miss Sunset Beach. Sunset Beach, Loving and Port Charles are the only Daytime Soaps I had the privilege of seeing the start of. For me Passions biggest disappointment was when Charity left without the final battle between Good and Evil the show built up for years between here and Tabitha. I also never was able to watch the end of the series once it moved to Dish: (

People that subjugate themselves to these little segments in soap operas dont realize the fractionation and power of the daily push-pull that these programs exert! Mind control demands that they watch each and every day. America has been under siege, and has lost the comfort of the nuclear family because these soaps have basically taught women to cheat on their husbands. Their fantasies will manifest in reality!

My beloved boyfriend & I had been dating for 6 months when he died of cancer. On my days off work we would go out & do things together, BUT. NOT UNTIL General Hospital was over with. (This was when Luke & Laura were going strong) We both loved Luke & Laura. We absolutely were cheering them on as a couple! Great times. Thank you Genie & Tony. Thank you Raleigh. Miss you lots!

No way is Days of Our Lives greater than All My Children and The Young and the Restless. DAYS is well known for campy, cheesy plots whereas AMC and Y&R were about social relevance and the former also built plots off real life moments, therefore keeping an eye on current events. not to mention both took credible risks.
GH is also overrated

I thought James E Reilly was the best of the best. Passions and Days. exorcism and Marlena as the devil. Kristen Tony John. 1990 s was the best for Days. exceptional soaps. Watch the reruns. EJ and Abby. hot hot. and B and B, Sunset Beach, Dark Shadows, and One life to Live, Y and R. soap fan for life.

I want a mansion full of gorgeous women from Y and R, B and B, GH, OLTL, AMC when I get to Heaven. I would love to go dancing with them. I want to be in their arms and go dancing to romantic music. I also collect Us Weekly magazines and look at the beautiful women on the red carpet section.

My grandmother, rest her soul, used to watch General Hospital and All My Children like a religion, and I'm pretty sure Days Of Our Lives too, if memory serves. So did I cause she basically raised me. Also I watched Passions non-stop back in the day. Christ I miss the 90s!
reply

Where to begin? 1- dark Shadows was a soap-opera. How could you include Passions based on your reasoning for excluding DS? 2- Santa Barbara was so ahead of it's time in music, writing, humor, and drama that it deserves much more than an honorable mention. All IMO of course.
reply

Ok, they say DARK SHADOWS was too supernatural to be included, but then turn right around and say PASSIONS comes in at #10. What's the differences? I've never seen PASSIONS, but it's obvious from their clips that the show is just as supernatural as DARK SHADOWS.
reply

Dark Shadows deserves credit for breaking ground and having a cult following among the young and older demographic. It remains today the only soap opera where most episodes were preserved on videotape, not wiped like most soaps of it's timeframe.
reply

Im 21 and I grew up on Passions.
I have to say. today's weirdness has nothing on the shit back then.
I'm not saying I'm a fan
But what I'm saying is I wouldn't be who I am today having never watched that madness lol

reply

Ummmm. Sunset Beach! With its very little run, it had many memorable moments, the earthquake, shipwreck. It was the soap opera aimed towards teenagers, and 20 year olds during the summer especially. The intro was so iconic.
reply

Everyone knows that excluding Dark Shadows was the only way to prevent it from being number one.
Let's not kid ourselves, Dark Shadows is the one daytime soap opera that has the most outside appeal.

reply

MGM film studios made two Dark Shadows films in 1970, and 1971. It was lavishly rebooted in 1991 as a prime time revival show. NO other soap opera has remained on the minds of fans so fondly.
reply

Why no Dark Shadows it was an American daytime soap.
And you say it not in the list because of it being gothic then go on to announce Passions in the list which has a witch.

reply

The Young and the Restless and All my children were my favorites but I know them all. By the way The Young and the Restless has been the number ONE daytime drama for decades.
reply

Ratings wise TheYoung & the Restless is the #1 rated daytime soap for over 25 years in a row. None of these shows have ever been #1 in the ratings for a single day.
reply

You better move as the world turns further up on that list. My family loved that show so much it was the main reason we first purchased a vcr back in the 80s.
reply

Why was Santa Barbara on the honorable mentions list? It was THAT soap where at the end of certain stories, the payoff was NOT what you would expect.
reply

I think not being biased but I think days should have been first GH second I can see why someone would put GH first other wise spot on list.
reply

Please, General Crap is not number 1 in my opinion. Guiding Light and As The World Turns we're the number 1 soaps of all time!
reply

if you look at the quality, not the number of episodes: this list is bad and Santa Barbara should be in fifth place); -)
reply

general hospital and guiding light are without a doubt two of the greatest soap operas in television history hands down.
reply

Excluding Dark Shadows for supernatural and gothic elements but including Passions is kind of bizarre. Just my two cents.
reply

All my children got a decent placement but I dont think you did a good job on explaining what made the show special.
reply

These were not great when you were young and had to be baby sat as a kid and forced to watch these LOLLLL.
