The opening of Chorus Line is the most exciting dance opening of any musical EVER.
ANY dance sequence in West Side Story.
That Agnes de Mille is completely omitted, without whom NOTHING would have evolved on Broadway, is unacceptable (Oklahoma, Brigadoon, Carousel.
Forget Big Spender - it's a great number, but There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This is the showstopper. Try it. Paula Kelly, baby.
OK, 42nd Street for sure, but The King and I? Please. Nope. Especially THAT version. zzzzz
Too Darn Hot from Kiss Me Kate - the 1999 Broadway revival choreographed by Kathleen Marshall brought the flipping house DOWN.
CONTACT, esp The Girl in the Yellow Dress
On The Town, 2014-15 - the Dream Ballet with Tony Yazbeck and Megan Fairchild - BREATHTAKINGLY beautiful; astonishing
ANYTHING, I repeat, ANYTHING from Dancin'
Jerome Robbins Broadway - take your pick
The big number from The Drowsey Chaperone (GOD, I LOVED THAT SHOW)
STOMP - anything
Andre de Shields doing The Viper in Ain't Misbehavin'. BRILL.
Gregory Hines dancing in anything, but especially Sophisticated Ladies and Jelly's Last Jam, both on Broadway

Having been in the original Bway production of WSS, all of the choreography was difficult and gorgeous! Jerry Robbins was a genius tho difficult to work with. Peter Gennaro choreographed the Sharks dances all the way through and was never given the right credit! Choreographically I think all of the dances were brilliant and stood above almost every Broadway show and I was so Proud to have been in it! my stage name was Pauline in the show and my maiden name was Julie Oser. What a privilege to be a part of it and work with the genius creators.

I knew that Newsies would be on here but the fact Billy Elliot didn't even reach the top 10 is worse than your husband running into your knife 10 times
It's fr a crime that All That Jazz was on here but Cell Block Tango wasn't. Also, Hairspray and Anything Goes?
Damn I sound like a Karen but imo You Can't Stop the Beat definitely beats Step In Time.
Anyways my Newsies/Billy Elliot obsessed self is really proud of Ben Cook and Elliott Hanna for getting on here

No. 1 immediately how it played in my head
One! Chorus line of people.
Dancing till they make us stop!
TWO!
Many dancing people, covered with blood, gore, and glop.
Just one sniff of that fog,
And you're inside out.
It's worse than that flesh-eating virus,
You've read about.
Vital organs, they are what we're dressed in.
The family dog is eyeing Bart's intestine.
Happy Halloweeeeeeen!
Great list, so many incredible performances

You know? I was really looking forward to 10 stroller song, music, & dance routine, but 1/3rd if the way in I turned the sound off and stopped watching because the narration ruined the entire display. The talk was annoying distraction.

I cannot believe Seven Brides For Seven Brothers didn't even rate a mention. So many brilliant numbers. Then there's the dream sequence from Oklahoma. Or Steam Heat from Pyjama Game. That is a notoriously challenging piece.
reply

Funny Girl, the roller skating one where Fanny purposely messes up the routine or when she is in the Ziegfeld's production with the faux pregnancy. Barbra Streisand was great along with the rest of the cast.
reply

Donna McKechnies brilliant performance of The Music and the Mirror should be on this list. The number shows what drives a dancer to dance, to express something deep in themselves, to just be given the chance.
reply

What could go wrong with Cats? A bunch of guys dressed as pussies? American in Paris. REALLY? OK Step in time Dick Van D? Kudos. And Seven Brides for Seven Brothers doesn't get a mention? GET REAL.

All that Jazz really sets the tone for the whole movie. It sets it up REALLY WELL. I love the cell block tango but I really love all that jazz and how much thought was put into it.
reply

Singular Sensation is a dam fine choice, and I used to sing At the Ballet while working crew for the Ballet. But for me the number one choice is Seasons of Love.
reply

Hands down. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. the barn raising sequence. breathtaking athleticism and dance clearly tells a story. nothing was ever better.
reply

I danced the 42nd Street opening number and was in A Chorus Line in high school and can attest they were some of the hardest numbers I ever performed!
reply

Yes I agree with your picks and was delighted to find that that camp-trash turkey lurkey didn't make it. That is a phenomenon I don't understand at all.
reply

No offense but this video sucks-it's a quick count down-you hardly have an opportunity to see the routines so they often don't appear that special.
reply

King of Broadway.
I Wanna Be A Producer.
When You Got It, Flaunt It.
The Nicest Kids in Town
Didn't make it to the list?

reply

Mein Hair chair dance from Cabaret should have been #1, it's mind boggling that it could have been done once, much less repeatedly.
reply

I literally just had the song from A Chorus Line stuck in my head before I watched this video oblivious of the fact that it was #1
reply

I agree that a chorus line is #1, but it should be the opening number. Every theater kid knows what to do when they hear 5678!
reply

I
How can you include top ten and not talk about I want to be a producer or putting on the ritz is it cause Mel brooks jewish

reply

A Chorus Line is my absolute favorite musical. As a child that was my dream job. When I saw it live, I cried during the finale.
reply

I liked all of this list, and I like that they included some lesser known ones like the Bottle Dance and Shall We Dance.
reply

Before watching this video
I hope Cell Block Tango is here
Edit: Okay I understand why you choose All that Jazz

reply

Shall we Dance definitely should have been a top ten. And Another Op'nin' Another Show definitely was overlooked.
reply

Dance takes as much strength and energy as any sport. Athletes don't have to make it look effortless. Dancers do.
reply

3: 00 I spy the amazing Chita Rivera, and sure 'nuff, the spotlight's on her 3: 25. Bernstein: American genius.
reply

I still get a joyous tingle when I hear the music for 'One'! Too many missing, but love watching all these again!
reply

Liza Minnelli in Cabaret was pure perfection and a showstopper. And I couldnt take my eyes off Ben Vereen.
reply

if im being honest, ms mojo never knows what shes talking about when it comes to broadway. sorry but its true
reply

Honestly, it's ridiculous that you'd mention Mein Herr and not place it at number one. It's not even close.
