Funny thing, only a few of these writers are actual romance writers. Contrary to you're definition of romance, romance doesn't mean love, or beauty. It mean greatly detailed. Emily and Charlotte Bronte are romance writers, but that also includes writers such as Lord Byron, Bram Stoker, Victor Hugo, and Mary Shelley. If you have ever read any of these writers, love is defiantly not the first thing on there minds.

Georgette Heyer is one of my favorite writers and I think she deserves to be considered a classic as the Brontes and Jane Austen. I would also include in the list Stephenie Meyer and Amanda Quick. I am glad that you acknowledged Julie Garwood.

I prefer Charlotte to Emily bronte also. Plus some of my other favorite romance authors are Hannah Howell, Karen Marie moning and sherrilyn Kenyon! While there are too many to choose from, They should have been included as well!

I wonder why Jayne Anne Krentz wasn't even an honorable mention. She has garnered great success in contemporary, historical (as Amanda Quick) and futuristic (as Jayne Castle) romances. I've been reading her for years.

They should have put Bobbi Smith and Connie Mason (I have so many of their books) on this list. They should make a part 2 or maybe even part 3 for this lists. Because there are too many great romance authors out there.

I love how men write romance writers. I keep on writing about gay people. I like romance books. Daniel Steel could be more interesting if she was more broad. The American romance is satisfying

Jane Austen, rightfully number. Charlotte Bronte is number two to me. More current writers not mentioned: Johanna Lindsay (though I've read she passed) and Lisa Kleypas deserve mention, too.

I would have thought Sophie Kinsella should be on this list but then again she considers herself as a ChickLit writer and not a Romance novel writer.

I knew Jane Austin would be #1 and rightfully so! It's interesting that Nicholas Sparks is the only man and he happens to be my second favorite
