Quoted from Wikipedia:
Additionally, Luke Perry had auditioned for the role of Steve Sanders, but the role eventually went to Ian Ziering before Perry was cast as Dylan McKay. Perry's character was not an original cast member of the show, and he was first featured in the show's second episode. He was originally intended to only appear in one story arc, for one or two episodes. Fox was initially reluctant to have him included as a regular, but Aaron Spelling felt differently and gave Perry a bigger role during the first two years until the network was won over.

Dylan and Kelly sucked. Their summer flirting/fling the summer when Brenda was in Paris was exciting and added a lot to the show I'll admit. But when they were an actual couple they were annoying and always fighting. They had nothing in common other than childhoods with absentee parents. Dylan and Brenda had a lot better chemistry and more in common. Even other women like Toni were better with him. Kelly is garbage. She stole her best friends boyfriend and then starts dating Brenda's brother on top of it after they break up. Who does that?

90210 was The Best Show geared towards teens in The 90s. It was also the first show to discuss serious teen issues in the story lines.
My friends and I never missed an episode and it was always the topic of discussion at lunch the next day. Its so hard to believe it premiered nearly 30 years ago. The Mojo was absolutely right on the number one Dylan storyline. RIP Luke Perry.

I can't say that I miss Luke as I didn't know him. But I can honestly say that as a woman in my 40's that loved 90210, my teenage heart broke knowing that Dylan McKay is gone. That's who I knew. I am sure Luke was a dear, sweet man. I'm sure if I knew him, I'd miss him, too. RIP to Luke and my beloved Dylan McKay.

His father's death scene still brings me to tears. Yeah, I know it turns out he (spoiler alert) wasn't really dead, but Dylan's reaction, and Luke Perry's acting in the car explosion scene, was tough to watch. He and his father finally start growing close again, just for that to happen. So gut-wrenching.

I can't believe choosing Kelly made an honorable mention, considering the fact that seconds later Brenda's absence affected his choice at least at some degree (in my opinion that was the only reason he chose her, only imagine how the evening would have played out if Brenda managed to attend Jack's party.

When you really think about it Jack McKay is the sole cause for Dylan to choose the negative, self destructive path he was on four 4 seasons. Its irritating knowing that a simple moment or choice in an individual's life, can have a destiny changing effect in someone else's.

No matter who you shipped him with or which of his storylines you liked, Dylan McKay was a memorable character and Luke Perry brought a vulnerability and an intensity to the role. He will live on forever through his work and those who knew him and loved him. RIP Luke.

Dylan belonged with Brenda and Kelly belonged with Brandon. I still believe thats how it wouldve ended if Shannen and Jason had stayed until the end of the series. I did like Toni for the brief time they were together, though

It could be arguably stated, that Luke just might be one of the most underrated geniuses in acting that there ever was. Wish he could have gone for the movie elites, and thrown his hat into the bigtime. RIP Luke.

Best scene is on that same episode, When Luke as Dylan says tells Brandon (Jason) you're the best friend I ever had. I don't know if it was scripted because Jason almost breaks, like Luke's leaving the show.

Dylan and Kelly never made sense. It seemed so forced, and they had zero chemistry. I stopped watching the show when they turned into the Kelly show. Brandon had the most boring story lines too

I love Luke in 90210 but my favorite thing I love him in is 8 Seconds. In his real life he was a true country boy. He loved horses and riding them and he was just a good ole country boy.

Dylan had to choose between Kelly and Brenda and then Kelly has to choose between Dylan and Brandon. I feel for the Walsh twins. They both got the shit end of that

My pick was Dylan and Kelly while everybody else chooses Dylan and Brenda. Then I chose Brandon and Kelly afterwords when Dylan left.

Watch for Dylan's lips at 10: 04. You see him, hear his scream NO! but his mouth doesn't move. That scream was a voice-over.
