Imma just put this out there. Just because she spoke Swahili to black kids, doesnt make her racist. She probably didnt know, and she probably grew up speaking Swahili. I know Im defending a movie, but whether human or not, its worth defending if you have a passion for it. And what does slavery have to do with being racist? Just saying, not trying to be mean. So please dont take any offense to anything Ive said in this comment. And if you do, I give my sincerest apologies.

There is one thing in the movie that made me concerned since the first time I watched it: The Asian cool girl who replaced Regina to be Gretchen's new queen bee was supposed to be Vietnamese (as Gretchen tried to speak Vietnamese at the end of the movie to her. However, her name Trang Pak was not Vietnamese. While Trang is a Vietnamese girls' name (which is my name, Pak is definitely not a Vietnamese surname but a Korean one.

I questioned the handwriting thing more about the candy cane. Gretchen would know Regina's handwriting perfectly. Also, Cady's Swahilian thing was judged way too harshly. and you repeatedly ask questions while her whole character was based on not knowing anything about the U. S. She saw the one thing she was familiar with and seeked a sense of normalcy. That is definitely not racist.

The funny thing is theyre just characters in a movie/fiction. Of course she wasnt a racist she was raised in Africa it was her first time in America and first time going to school and She thought those kids looked like they were from Africa and they would speak African language.

Only thing that bothered me about film now; is when Regina hands in burn book, like how did any teachers not recognise Cady/Gretchen/Regina/Karen handwriting in said book as you think they would know their own students handwriting.

The handwriting one was a HUGE issue for me when I watched this film. I still love the movie but I had to learn to accept that they just ignore comparing handwriting for the sake of the plot.

Cady's accidental racism is, sadly, a result of Tina Fey's awful habit to rely on racist stereotypes in her comedy. She's done it repeatedly. One of very few issues with the film.
