I am excited about This movie because I really live the animated one BUT! What is a really huge no-go to me is that in my opinion the 1998 version of mulan was about a girl who is going to war to safe her father and bring honor to her family. It was about a girl only ONE GIRL who impressed everyone after genderreveal like she showed every man hey a women can do those things too and the most impressive thing was that she was the one who fight a brutal murderer and huge enemy of China. But the in the remake it's nothing special that she is a girl because she is fighting against a female witch which makes me really sad. To me mulan always sent the message that even a women can do whatever she wants even the men jobs. But now it's just a movie about a girl who's hiding her gender and going to war cause her father can't. What I am excited about is how they are going to put mushu in the movie cause his role is really important to mulan fans and I think if they can create a flying carpet in Aladdin they also can create a speaking dragon! I'm fine if the movies got some plot in it like that she's got a sister now and that shang isnt her mentor anymore only a soldier like she is. All that is fine but the first 2 things are really making me mad.
I am a little sad too that they told us there won't be any like musical parts like that they play the songs in the background but the characters won't sing. I think this is a huge missing part for fans too cause sorry but it's still Disney and it should be still feel like Disney or am I the only one who thinks so?

I'm personally so excited for this. Disney is a big company; like, TAKE OVER THE WORLD big. They have the budget and power to make some seriously amazing movies. Don't get me wrong, I love the classic Disney formula, but I'm so happy that they're venturing out into unexplored territory with this remake. With Disney movies, it's almost always the same thing: there's a girl (maybe or maybe not some kind of princess, there's some villain who hates love or just loves themselves too much so they do something the princess, some songs are sung, the villain is defeated, and they happily ever after. This Mulan remake has the potential to be something amazing, and people are ragging on it because it's not like the original. I'm sorry, but those complaints are coming from the same people who complained that previous remakes are too much like the originals. There's no point in making this movie, it's just some cash grab. Disney has cash. I think they are making these movies yes, for money, but also because the old movies are becoming outdated. They're still classics, and I will always love them, but I don't see the point in complaining about an opportunity to see something FRESH! I don't know, I just feel like people are taking this movie for granted because they're too busy looking to the past.

Mulan has older sister and younger brother in some versions of the story. In some versions her sister storyline is kinda similar to Mulan. She also chnged herself into guy to deliver a message. The witch character is really interesting. There is a witch who is evil but she could not change into eagle, there is fox which can change into male but he is fighting with chinese not against them. I thing Mushu is not there because dragon is symbol of emperor and represences strengh and prosperity it is really important symbol for chinese culture and ridicule that symbol would not be wellcome by some of chinese

Just straight up; disney has already dropped the ball HARD
The original folklore has been made into movie adaptations MULTIPLE times by the Chinese movie industry but it's only gaining recognition now because Hollywood is tryna diversify, which i do credit them for BUT.
The disney movie carries it's own beauty separate from the original folklore. That is what disney focused on when they first made the movie and i think they should continue to stay that way.
I don't have good hopes for this movie. I see a bunch of big Asian names turning into wasted potential.

I looked at the List of Disney's Mulan characters on Wikipedia, I found these discoveries:
The character of Chen Honghui (portrayed by Yoson An) is the alias of Li Shang
The Cricket will be in the movie (voiced by Jun Yu)
Mushu will appear (no voice actor at the moment)
The villain Bori Khan (portrayed by Jason Scott Lee) is the alias of Shan Yu
The Grandmother will not be in the movie
The Chancellor (portrayed by Nelson Lee) is the new version of Chi-Fu
Commander Tung (portrayed by Donnie Yen) is taking the place of General Li (Li Shang's father)

Disney is making it clear that they don't want fans of the animated movie mulan. Just looking at the trailer and all the Huge changes it's no longer anything of the Animated movie and I was happy with the actors who are playing the parts but I'm not liking the story being told. All I'm saying is that I will not and will Encourage a lot of my friend's not to see this movie mulan because they will and Especially me will be Disappointed because it's not a live action of Animated movie mulan but just the Legend of mulan which is what it should be called this movie.

Mushu will be replaced by a Phoenix as the Hua Family's guardian Spirit
The main villain is still the same Huns leader, but have different name. The villain named Boris Khan instead of Shang Yu
The Witch (Gong Li) is not the main villain. She's actually replacing Shang Yu's falcon. Since she's the witch who can transform into bird.
In the latest trailer, we can hear orchestral version of Reflection. There are also rumors said that Make a Man Out of You and 1 other classic soundtrack will be used in this movie.

4: 47 'Fans of Captain Li Shang from the animated version will be disappointed to hear that we won't get to met his live action counterpart in the 2020 remake. ' Okay Disney, you lost a potential viewer and your chance to make money out of me. Thank you, next! It's been 22yrs since the original and they are not advancing and exploring on the gender ignoring/negating aspects but instead dropping the whole issue on the central relationship altogether? How pathetic. Pandering to conservative Asian viewers or what?

It's annoying when people get caught up in if the lead is female. Who cares? It's not a big deal. Also, Mushu is the best. The live-action of Beauty and the beast was amazing. I fear this won't be. Also, you don't need to slap the feminist label in anything female leading. Please stop. Also, who cares if the director is female? Why is that a big deal? The only thing that should matter is that the director is talented and creative not if they are female or not.

It really just brings Tears to my eyes that it's not a live action of the animated movie mulan. I was okay if everything about the movie looked Traditional but I love the story of how everything was in the Animated movie because it was funny and a good story but this live action is something not of the animated movie is about. And sadly Disney has broken my heart because I was really looking forward to live action of the animated movie mulan.

I don't wanna see this film anymore, not only cause it's seriously gonna lack many of the heart-warming elements by focusing it so much on serious elements from the legend, which takes away a lot of the magic from the original film, but also cause so many of the loveable characters will be taken out, and their replacements don't seem to fill in the voids left by those memorable elements, including Captain Shang, Ling/Chien-Po/Yao, and Mushu
reply

Hm don't know if I will like this it's gonna feel like a hole different Movie hope they at least do the serious Stuff they are probably making interesting I'm gonna watch it I guess because I wanna see it cause it's gonna be interestingly different but to be honest I'm really gonna miss the comedic elements like Mushu and the 3 funny soldiers ya know and I'm definitely gonna miss Li-Shang

Too many changes, the originals will always be the best. Coming from someone who is 21 these live action remakes will never be better and do the original justice. The movie companies seem to be running out of ideas and are probably going to do re-makes of all the animated Disney movies. Kids should at least watch the original movie first before watching the live action.
reply

Disney is just making so many changes to the original movies. I know it can't be the same copy that would be boring but don't change too much it won't feel like the same charictor. I just feel disappointed like when they changed Ariel. Yes they should change the name to the Legend of Mulan. It's not Mulan Disney movie it's the legend. Still I hope its a good movie
reply

well-to no surprise leave it to Hollywood to screw up a classic story-when I first heard of this coming movie I couldn't wait-now -who cares? I suggest to everyone download the original Chinese live version instead of this tripe--I feel sorry for the outstanding actors in the Disney version
reply

Shang Hue ( I dont know how to spell his name, sry) was one of the best villians in the disney world. One that gave me creeps but was admirable the way he did his one dirty work. Hopefully the witch does better and goes beyond or else I will be disappointed in another aspect.

I think it would make far more sense to remake movies that weren't beloved, to give a potentially good story a second lease on life. Remaking movies which are already beloved just feels greedy. And they're turning the antagonist of this movie into a witch! Please.
reply

Thank you for the information, I waited two years for the movie to come out. No Li Shang? No Mushu? No I'll make a man out of you? I am very disappointed I hope the movie fails in the box office so that Disney would know what a big mistake they've made
reply

The live action Mulan. is not a remake from the Disney Mulan.
Unlike Aladdin. Beauty and the Beast. Cinderella. And Lion King. they follow it what's in the animated film. but Mulan is different. they make it into serious movie.

reply

Were finally getting a live-action version of one of our favorite Disney classics That's great. Because Beauty and the Beast and Lion king remakes were soooooo good the sarcasm is great with this one.
reply

The reason they changed things is because they wanted to appeal to the Chinese market since Disney films now make more money overseas than in the US and Canada. But that's what I have read at least.
reply

The actress Liu supports HONG KONG POLICE BRUTALITY against peaceful protestors. She is NOT qualified to be Mulan ( hero/princess) with such cruel spirit. Shame on her! Shame on Disney
reply

I'm glad there won't be any songs in the remake because it doesn't need it and would only make the remake a shadow of the previous version which I hated about the other remakes.
reply

I dont like the idea of a villain being a woman because it takes the essence away of all males feeling threatened by a woman. I hope they dont try to hard to make it work
reply

erm. if u are having a witch as the antagonist, u can easily work in a spirit dragon. im guessing no cast means mushu probably will be just a spirit with generic roars.
reply

The Lion King live action: let's keep it the same movie!
People: Nah
Mulan live action: let's just change almost the whole movie!
People: NO PLEASE DON'T!

reply

i don't understand how people watch musical films without getting bored. I'm definitely looking forward seeing the live action Mulan without all the sing song numbers lol
reply

im just glad hollywood finally hires an asian actress whose eyes are not squinty (cough sandra oh cough) or has a flat face. this girl is actually beautiful for once.
reply

There have been multiple versions of Mulan already, just like any other well known fairy tale or legend. I tend to like most of them anyway even if it's plot changes
reply

I love the original and would love to see this but with the whole situation with the actresss remarks about Hong Kong Im not too sure if its right to support the film
