My sweet 16 was minimalistic in the sense that most of my hs friends came over to my house and we had cake and just hung out for a few hours. We didnt have crazy outfits or crazy venues. It was just my house and everyone showed up in clothes theyd wear to school, if not borderline pajamas. Setting up the karaoke machine was stressful but we ended up using it and it was great. My sweet 16 was super fun and I was grateful for what it was. There were no tantrums or fits. I didnt get my first car until I was 17 and I didnt start driving it until I was 17 going on 18. Some people dont even get cars until much later in life and some have to pay for their own cars. My grandfather really wanted to get me and my twin brother a 2016 Honda CRV. Other kids had Audis and other really nice sports cars. So what? We both love the car that we got. I started driving it in January 2020 and the car is still as beautiful as its always been as of today. I drove it from my home in California to my college in Wisconsin and I still have it up there. The point is, I am grateful for the things I have and I dont say that begrudgingly. Most kids dont have what I have and its not fair to them. However, what I dont like about the kids on this show is that they are so out of touch with the rest of the world. Theyre in their own rich bubbles and their parents indulged them so badly, its insane. Imagine throwing a tantrum because you didnt get the exact car or dress you wanted. Neither my brother nor I begged for the Honda CRV, we got it because our grandfather really wanted us to have that car. Guess what? We still drive that car to this day. We love that car and I enjoyed my 16th birthday party just the way it was. I am grateful for what my parents taught me and my brother. Its not about material things; money, cars, big venues, flashy clothes, big trips to Disneyland, Hawaii, or other things. My brother and I come from an upper middle class family but we dont have the biggest house with a large pool, like some of the other kids had growing up. We spent a lot of our money on education. We were well-prepared for college. I blame the parents for raising spoiled, entitled children.

You know, My mind would've been overwhelmed with gratitude if I got even a tenth of all that for my birthdays growing up. As much as my siblings and I were loved, my parents wouldn't have tolerated even the mild temper tantrums we threw as children. So my parents, my daddy in particular would've really given these entitled teens hell if I had them as my siblings! What a bunch of spoiled, bratty, ungrateful teens(minus Bjorn, He's a good guy and I actually feel sorry for him! While I do feel bad for their parents, I also recognize that at least some of the blame has to be laid at their feet. After all, parenting does play a big role in how children grow up. And spoiling your children and not giving them any discipline whatsoever is obviously a bad idea. If you're going to spoil your children, spoil them with love, not material things. And they need to taught to be grateful for what they have. Nothing is guaranteed in life.

If you ever see the 8th episode of the 11th season of Operation Repo, there was a spoiled 16 year old girl getting her BMW repoed and she freaked out about it because she wanted that car for her first car and Froy talks in the interview saying that that girl needs to learn a lesson on responsibilities and honestly, he is right because the car she wanted was a BMW and for me, I did want a Suburban or a Silverado but I didnt get either of these cars as my first car because my parents said they were too big for me but I didnt care and so I had to go for the BMW because it was my brothers car and they said that this was gonna be my first car

Anyone who says There is no such thing as rich privilege, special treatment, and favoritism is probably at least one of the three, two of of three, or all three. People who are rich privileged have never suffered one time surviving. Remember I said surviving not thriving. Huge difference between the two.
My Super Sweet 16 was the Kardashians before the Kardashians.
Rich, Privileged, Fake, Special Treatment, Favoritism, Spoiled, Brats.

Put some power in the hand of a rich spoiled brat, then he will turn into an unlimited dictatorial monster.
But I got to admit, offering an old SUV to a kid is ok (be happy to have a free car already, but going through a Lamborghini store just before is really sadistic
I even suspect the mtv production of having told the parents to do this to make it spicier

What's all about turning 16 in the USA? When we are 15 we have to leave the Italian part of Switzerland for the German one (for school or apprenticeship. You have stricts rules in the boarding school, and if you have the possibility to go out for an ice tea with some friends (and understand their language) you should consider you lucky, hahahah!

These parents have obviously never read or even heard about the Convention on the Right of the Child! I mean - buying them a wrong car or even on the wrong date for their 16th Birthday? Those kids would have gone better in the orphanages than with them, for sure!
reply

When I turned 16, I didn't have this kind of party that's sweet. But I had a normal birthday before like I think I remember going to Dave & busters for my birthday before (I have a hard time remembering things now because right now I'm an adult.

I love Janelle and Stephanie, but both their courts made a commitment to them when each girl asked them to be part of her day, and they shouldn't be giving either of them the stress! And idk who I hated more, Sophie or Audrey?

My parents said if I get all As and Bs in high school and make Volleyball Varsity, theyll give me the best pink super sweet 16 and theyll get me my fav car, a Jeep Wrangler, wrapped in hot pink with my name on it.

reply

I dont think you guys understand when the girls are crying they actually are hurt because they are so used to being told. Yes that knows are so foreign to them. It is completely the parents fault not the child.
reply

I know the family of the boy who got the Lamborghini and its either very far fetched or just fake, The parents are actually somewhat strict and I dont know anything about him ever having a Lamborghini

A lot of these rich kids are not going to know how to handle life's problems. Most of them will lack the affection they need to give their spouse. A lot of them are selfish and inconsiderate
reply

Our police risk their lives to make $$ thats no where near enough to buy certain cars n they dont complain at all! Oh n did I mention that the hatred toward them is so out of control?

Oh, I would have the same reaction just like Sophies if someone tried to get an invitation (in my case, a bully I cant stand and thinking shes more perfect than anyone else -dont ask)

I DONT care how much money I have, I would NEVER ALLOW my kids to be a SPOILED, SELFISH ENTITLED, UNGRATEFUL, BRAT! Theyr raising MONSTERS & DONT even know it!
reply

There was a show like this but it was different. Most of the episodes these teens moms would hook them up with someone older than them on a specific birthday
reply

Were it my choice, the most I wouldve wanted when I turned 16 would be a simple yellow 1972 Volkswagen Beetle, so I could call it Bumblebee.

all the comments here are pretty misogynistic. what's wrong with a confident girl getting what she wants and speaking her mind?
