Nobody here is looking to besmirch Michelle Williams or her dedication to effectively donning the skin of beloved, and unforgettable Gwen Verdon in the FX series, 'Fosse/Verdon. ' What is at issue here, (and a DAMN BIG ISSUE at that) is the seemingly insidious, one sided, uneven playing field this fictionalized TV show casts upon its subjects, legendary Broadway choreographer Bob Fosse and his archetypal muse and chief collaborator Gwen Verdon.
The series production values were phenomenal, the actors top drawer, and yet thankfully several major players (Ann Reinking and John Rubenstein among others) affirmed our disappointments in their own write-ups on the series. It was apparent in the first NYTimes write-up that came out about Fosse/Verdon, they clearly were trying to warn us. It's a damn shame this series has gone off the deep end the way it has. Michelle Williams is so amazing, and this series could have catapulted Bob and Gwen's legacy to wonderful, ground breaking new heights. What it's done instead is leave many of us awash in an extremely uneven, dour and heavy handed soap opera. NICE GOING producers. you didn't need to destroy Bob Fosse utterly in your depiction, in order to elevate Gwen to the heights she clearly deserved. Hope you have some semblance of understanding with how angry so many of us are, and will remain
That's the tricky thing about the written word vs a creative visual medium which 'allegedly' represents the facts. Bob Fosse may very well have been 'messed up' but the bottom line was he was a Maverick, 'think outside the box' artistic genius who worked through his 'issues' more often than not, and in doing so created a never to be repeated place for himself, and his amazing wife/partner Gwen. There could be any number of reasons why the series seemed more intent on portraying Bob as a nut job, rather than as the artistic genius he was(disgruntled daughter who needs some bucks maybe) but sadly it is in fact guilty of doing just that. It spends WAY too much time hurling the viewer into one extremely maudlin, dark, mentally addled 'Bob' scenario after another till frankly it became a tiresome, overdone gimmick. I could literally feel my blood pressure elevating while watching that damn show, because I just knew it was taking an irresponsible, salacious stance in its portrayal of him.

A 13 year old boy with grown women is most certainly statutory rape at least and molestation at best for certain. I'm sure it scarred him, but his (Fosse) addictions and disregard for staying faithful in marriage may have been a symptom of such abuse, i do not view it as a valid excuse for him.
Every case and person is different, and this is not in any way meant a generalization from him, to any other victim. Every individual deals with things in their own way.

Wow this is a very special clip of Bob Fossie dancing. I knew so little about him, back then. Love him and Tommy Rall dance number. I'd like to see more of Bob dancing. So fantastic of a dancer. I adored Gwen Verdon. I love Who's Got the Pain dance number with Bob. Liked to see them dance together. They were so cute together.

Michelle Williams won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild SAG Award for her phenomenal role as Gwen Verdon in the FX limited series Fosse/Verdon, Sam Rockwell was nominated for a Golden Globe and won a SAG Award for his phenomenal work as Bob Fosse in the series and I love them both, they are the best.

My parents took me to New York to see Hello Dolly and the sights. We decided to see a second show, but couldn't decide. I suggested Sweet Charity. They thought it wasn't appropriate for a 12-yr-old. They decided to ask an expert for advice; our waiter. He agreed with me. We all loved the show.

Isnt it funny how ones opinions could differ so much from anothers. I personally liked this production and thought Michelle Williams did wonderfully. I will say that I try not to over analyze performances, content, etc. I just enjoy my emotional / visceral response.

The only 2 Broadway musicals I went to see were His work Chicago and Cabaret. Too expensive and musicals are not my thing in general.
Thanks for doing this. They were both brilliant at what they did and this miniseries was great to see

I loved Michelle as Gwen but after watching Gwen's live performances I just really wished the body and dance ability was showcased more maybe with a body double or someone who can act just as good as Michelle but also dance.

Bob once told me (and the rest of the family at a get together) that he didn, \'t get a divorce because he had a mortal fear of waking up in a New Jersey motel married again. It was probably his sense of humor.

In the clips of Gwen Verdon as a younger woman, I see a lot of Christina Hendricks--so much that I looked her up to see if they were family. She would also have been an excellent pick for this role.

I'm just now watching it for the first time, in January 2023. Not only does Michelle Williams look A LOT like Gwen Verdon, with a different hairdo she could be a dead ringer for Mary Tyler Moore!

One of Ryan Murphys best. You are truly taken into the heart of this relationship and not for one minute are you taken out of it. So engrossing. Sam and Michelle are brilliance personified.

This was the most BORING bio/pic I have ever watched. I kept watching because I was waiting for 'something to happen'. Maybe it's only ME or a matter of interest or taste!

Loved this mini-series! I would say that, while I understand Verdon's perspective on the Nowadays Chicago number, Fosse was right, it works best as a duet.

i saw pieces of Fosse/Verdon on Lin-Manuel Miranda's Twitter, when he posted about it (he promoted it the night i went to see Hamilton in Detroit)

Omg SO HAPPY someone made a video on the actual facts of this show! Kept making sure when it aired if things were right or not, LOVE FOSSE/VERDON!
reply

No wonder Michelle Williams won an award. Her portrayal of Gwen Verdon was eerily accurate. RIP BOB and GWEN. How amazingly talented you were.
reply

Interesting story about talented but damaged people. Fosse had genius in his craft. As is shown with the list of his successful musicals.
reply

Michelle Williams gives a Daniel Day-Lewis level performance. She doesn't just show the character, she shows the years.

0: 11 is that Michelle or Gwen (j/k. I heard Bob once say Gwen had a face like a light bulb; she lit up the stage. GORGEOUS!
reply

Michelle, Sam and the whole cast is sooooo amazingly good in this. Theyre just perfect! I love Bianca Marroquin as Chita.

I loved this limited series. and seeing this list (and the fact/fiction of it all being sorted out) only amplifies it.

The movie All that Jazz was far better then this mini series. That toupee they had him wear as he goes in the series

This show should have been called codependent theater people and the man who sucked out gwen verdons soul.
reply

I feel that Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon were the Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor of musical theatre.
