Raj deserved so much better on The Big Bang Theory. For this list, well be looking at times where Rajesh Koothrappali was underappreciated by his friends or done dirty by the writers. Our countdown includes he's unlucky in love, he's a victim of cultural insensitivity, his career should be more celebrated, and more! Why do YOU think Raj deserved better?

The ending troubled me. On the one hand it was sad Raj ended up single, never getting a forever woman like the other 3 guys (4 counting Stuart, but on the other hand I didn't like Anu. I found her pretty unappealing and not a great match for Raj. And his least attractive girlfriend. Like, with Raj being so passive it was good to put him with a more confident, aggressive woman, but she was too far. Their early meetings she was so clinical about it and seeming to COMPLETELY lack romance. Even if you support the bucking of gender stereotypes - having the guy being super romantic and the girl lacking it - come on, a girl with NO romance being with Raj? Someone who completely can't appreciate his romantic nature? His best feature and it was wasted on her! She was the ONLY girlfriend of his I didn't like (and it was tragic that literally NOTHING happened with Yvette The Vet, have him end up with ANY of them! Claire was cute and fun and lighthearted - and I think she didn't even get a real ending - Lucy shared being awkward (bugged me that Raj was so clueless with her, how he drove her away, they fit so well! Psycho Emily was fun, and dark, and I think the longest. She was exciting and cute and intelligent and dragged Raj out of his comfort zone. They were great together! Okay, Deaf Emily was such a golddigger, but they were cute while they lasted.

Why do they always leave the most caring and best friend of the group alone in the end. The friends joey and in here Raj. He was hopeless romantic he deserved his fairy tale ending. If the excuse was that he wasn't good looking or very awkward then, I doesn't even makes sense because he was the most good looking in their group and he was smart and sensitive and caring and his parents were rich he was so supportive to all the girls in the group, they can have a heartfull conversation with him anytime so many good qualities then also he is alone in the end. Stuart got a beautiful girl. Stuart. Then why not Raj. They really did him dirty.

Let's be honest, in matter of Raj, Big Bang just tried to copy Friends and their treatment of Joey. And that was poor writing, nothing else. They didn't want to do the hard work of closing his character arc. While Joey is still understandable, Raj not only deserved a close romantic relationship but major changes. The ending just made it that Raj a shy but kind Indian get to stand on his own feet in America after 10 years of struggle, wont be successful in romance because Indian stereotype demands that an Indian guy can marry only because his parents arrange one for him and that's it.
reply

Yeah, I think he should've gotten on the plane. Even if he was only going to marry Anu to not be lonely, that's a reason to get married. I also think he and Anu were on the cusp of falling in love, before she decided to take that job in England.
FYI, my favorite Raj girlfriend was Emily Sweeney, the one that seemed to love horror movies, I think she would've been the perfect niche in the group. Plus she was pretty enough to be perfect competition for Penny in the looks department, and I really believe she care about Raj.

He could have easily ended up with Anu. They met, had some chemistry, got along well. Had a bit of drama and then decided to forgo the quicky arranged marriage and just date and get to know each other for a while. Then for some reason the show-runners decided to just throw that away towards the end. They should have made that end-game for him, it would have been perfect!
reply

I think Raj absolutely should have gotten onto that plane. Even tho Anu wasn't a romantic and would have no idea what proposing to someone at Knotting Hill meant (which I actually don't understand either, she may very well have been Raj's one true final shot at a love life with a wife and kids.
Howard and Bernadette screwed him over, regardless of how they felt

reply

I think Raj goes to show that just because someone is good, it does not mean that they will always be successful. Nevertheless, Raj is able to roll with the punches and move forward. It is unsure if he ever does find what he is looking for, but we can take some sort of comfort in the fact that he seems content at the end of the series.
reply

As someone who dealt with selective mutism, I didnt find it at all offensive to have his be joked about. It made it more of a personality quirk than a pitiable problem to be solved. It just was part of him and something that the other characters worked with and around. I think these videos make too much out of nothing most of the time
reply

I remember when raj was put in people's magazine and Sheldon couldn't be happy for him because he felt he didn't deserve it. Sheldon was rarely happy that someone else got recognition. he put his friends down a lot. I think people give Sheldon leeway because he is the most interesting character on the show but also the most selfish
reply

Him sitting on the floor for 12 whole seasons like a peasant when there were desk chairs in the room. I mean how lame is that? Not to mention he was made to look like a poor relative when he was supposed to be a scientist from a Richie rich rich family and working in the same institute the rest of the guys were. Lame writing.
reply

Of course, it took him the longest to find a girlfriend because he had to overcome his inability to talk to women and learn to be financially independent. However, he also failed to learn to be happy being single and tended to be arrogant while dating. The later should have been resolved and he found a girl at the end.
reply

The best way they can rap up Raj's story is by him marrying Missy. Sure, it wouldn't be the best ending for him. Either him learning to love being alone or finding a different girl would have worked, but considering Missy and Raj are loose ends and Young Sheldon is still going, I think it work out well for them.
reply

Him finally cutting off Howard after his years of mistreatment was so satisfying. But that only lasted 2 episodes before he went right back Howard after he barely gave an apology. The writers missed an opportunity to write a perfect lesson on dropping toxic friends, but decided back to formula works. Poor Raj
reply

The best ending would have been the culmination of all his issues; he gets tangible recognition as a scientist and he comes across what is obviously the woman he needs and he is the man she is looking for. Hope is clearly in sight. plus he finds a mint condition Action Comic from 1938. You know the one.
reply

Though no solid ending for him I would say he actually had a good track record when it came to his relationships. They all gave him growth in some aspects. Kinda wish Claire was gonna be the one he ended up with while Emily was coming into her own as a member of the group when they were together.

Have you all seen the behind the scenes Half of the time Kunal Sir was so unhappy of the Racists Dialogues he was given to deliver and also how other characters would treat him that dissapointment was really shown on his face behind the cameras.
Kunal sir come here we will give you an awsome show

reply

They did Raj dirty in the end. Yes, his character had great development but they could've given him a glimpse of love. My coworker said she would've had him meet his real life wife in the show and at least it would show, he would find love like everyone without forcing into a relationship
reply

Raj was always my favorite! I like to think he ended up with Seldon's sister Missy at the end, since they seemed to have a lot of chemistry the few times we saw them together! Plus as the only person of color it feels wrong that he is the only single one through out the entirety of the show.
reply

Raj should've gotten on that plane. He deserved better friends and let's be honest they, especially Howard, are not worth staying for in place. of love. It was also so weird that Howard's argument is that Raj needs a woman who like the things he likes. Uhm. is he talking about his wife?
reply

The lack of including or involving writers from different social and ethnic backgrounds is why Raj's character suffered. This is why his character was always ridiculed, ostracized and stereotyped. Until the lion learns how to write, every story will glorify the hunter. - African Proverb
reply

I think writers just didn't know what to do with him, I think the final attempt was to make his romance life the typical Indian way of arranged marriage but somewhere they thought it would become too stereotypical and decide to leave his romance life in middle left to our imagination.
reply

To be honest Raj was a very poorly written character from a white man perspective, he himself pokes fun at his own great country and his presence always kinda felt forced on the show just to have some diversity that's probably why the writers didn't care enough about his story.
reply

Raj should've ended up with Sheldon's sister Missy, hands down. Becoming Sheldon's brother-in-law in the end would've made complete sense. With the connection to the group being solidified that way, that would've been the perfect ending for all the characters finding love
reply

Quick question, when Raj came through the door in the Aquaman costume the narrator announced cat woman costume, was that a mistake or was Raj in a Catwoman costume in another episode?
Raj definitely got shafted and deserved better ALL the way around.

reply

I wish they ended his story line where he has a successful consulting business ie party and fashion as his side business. Plus being in a stable healthy romantic relationship. The writers definitely dropped the ball when it came to Rajs character
reply

As an Indian-Hindu person I'll say that the show is very offensive to Indians and has targeted Hindus on many occasions, for things or beliefs that are not related to us and defiantly disrespectful to Hindu Gods.
reply

I really hated the mistreatment he got from HIS OWN FRIENDS! I know friends tease each other, but they were straight up mocking and ridiculing him at every chance they got! What kind of a friend does that?
reply

The entire time I watched this show, I remarked on how distasteful, irritating, and prejudice the writers were towards Raj. I appreciate this series. This is the best one by far. They did him extremely dirty.
reply

People will look back on this show someday and wonder how the hell did it even air with this level of cultural insensitivity. Just a good example of a show taking one step forwards and ten steps backwards.
reply

leave TBBT
Kunal Sir deserves his own new show where he is the main character. And most main characters should be Indian
where a white character will be done as dirty as his character in TBBT.
