who is this 'You' who didn't realise this despite the accompanying publicity for most of the movies?
BRIDGET JONES isn't based on PRIDE AND PREJUDICE beyond the Darcy name, which is flaunted as an in-joke; love triangles are long established.
all the KING LEARs - HOUSE OF STRANGERS, BROKEN LANCE, RAN - but with sons instead of daughters
MACBETH: JOE MACBETH (a bit of a giveaway in the title, THRONE OF BLOOD
HAMLET also did THE BAD SLEEP WELL to some extent
ROXANNE

The Lion King isn't based on Hamlet. Hamlet is about revenge. Hamlet finds out who killed his father from his father's ghost. Sure Simba finds out but not from his father. Almost all the characters die in Hamlet. You guys need to get your facts right. Even the people who made The Lion King even said that it's not based on Hamlet. They may seem like they're the same but they're not.

Hello-
anyone who saw any of the films discussed and didn't know they were based on classic literature its bizarre. for instance
Easy A is so obviously based on The Scarlet Letter that the only person who couldn't have figured it out is Trump since
he doesn't read books.

The Lion King was absolutely NOT based on Hamlet its closer to the animated Japanese cartoon Kimba. The themes of Hamlet and the Lion King are entirely different, in fact, the similarities end after Scar kills Mufasa, thats it.

I'd be offended that this assumes that the public can't tell which film is based from literature (extremely loosely) done 90% of the time anyway, but considering someone called, Taming of the Shrew a sonnet.
Ok. Sure.

I think number two should be a little earlier on the list. It's pretty clear that it was based on Taming of the Shrew. Like, going so far as the names of places and things. Still agree it should be on there.

Not gonna lie, Im getting real tired of thinly veiled duplications of Pygmalion and Pride and Prejudice. Its been so overdone at this point. At least change the names so its not as blatantly obvious.

I think the fact that several of these titles draw from classic lit is pretty common knowledge one way or another. Though maybe an odd few are obscure, like O or the Artificial Intelligence.

Do you think Shakespeare would have minded so many of his plays getting a modern make over? He'd probably be too busy counting the royalty cheques from getting writing credits.

in addition, 'The Lion King' is not only based on Hamlet, but also the Japanese series 'Kimba, the white Lion' which Disney of course denies.

How are any of these unrecognisable? Especially 'Clueless'. At least one character even has the same name as in the novel.
