altho the show is satire. since no one today has any regard for history (referring to our current political environment) altho the show is not historically accurate, it does capture the essence of the historical canon. and does remind us (if not so accurately) of what a person who understands her people can do to move them forward. the true history of Catherine the great is something to be sought after. today we have TV influencers (talking the heads and the like, what his name --- Hannity and others I guess because there is money in disinformation. people like that, that brainwash people. there is no one today that can move the world population forward. no one.

I kind of don't understand why shows do this. There is plenty of fascinating drama in real life history without fabricating all this stuff. Do a historical drama then and don't base it on real people. How many people think the Tudors show accurately depicts what really happened? Will people look at this and say Yes, that's what happened to Catherine the Great? I'd love for a show to accurately portray history.
That being said, the costumes are absolutely stunning. And considering what a proponent Catherine was of Enlightenment France, very in keeping with her character.

msmojo forgot to said that there's no bathroom and toilet before so all poops being shovel only in the floor and all poops stored underground basement of the castle. that's the reason why royals travel from one castle to another because they can't stand the smell of the castle, and poops everywhere in the castle. so everything you see in movies and tv series that the castle before is very clean and royals is very neat its wrong.

The show makes it clear that theyre not trying to tell the story in an accurate way. It's a comedic TV show. Loosely inspired and occasionally true. We cant always tell history from an accurate perspective. I think there's art in using history to create a funny story. And at least the show fully owns up to it. From the first 5 minutes it makes that clear with its crass and period-inaccurate dialogue. I personally love this show.

No. 1 thing they got wrong was that Catherine wasn't an attractive slender beauty as depicted in the show. And the show depicts that Peter later becomes infatuated by her. The infatuation which might not be true. If she were as attractive as depicted that might've changed the real Peter's opinion of her, and their subsequent relationship.

This show is truly one of a kind. So funny and yet so dark. First season was great, however, it only got getter from there. I loved the evolution of Peter's character and Nicholas Hoult totally killed it with every scene. Elle Fanning especially shined in season 3, Katherine must have been such a difficult role to play. Respect, truly

I'm about halfway through the series, and though i find it generally entertaining, it has gradually become so far fetched it's hard to enjoy.
I totally get the whole occasionally true thing, but it is just so far away from believable at many times. i just wish they tried to stay within the realm of reality.

Eerily relevant my ass. that always seems to be the way with Hollywood. Most of the things that come out of Hollywood always seem to line up just right with what is going on on the world. Either they are behind the changes of the world or they know they are coming.

Its hilarious how much work they put into this series yet they never learned the difference between a 'macaroon' and a 'macaron'. two totally different cookies. Only one of which is actually french and used over. and over. in this show yet never pronounced correctly once.

TV Peter's mother wasn't borderline abusive but just plain abusive. She stuck him with pins and locked him up alone for long periods until he was near psychotic and constantly put him down and called him cruel names. She was pretty much full Joan Crawford.

You forgot the following: Aunt Elizabeth was Regnant Empress before Peter III but named him as his heir, so obviously she was already dead. Orlo is a real character and helped plan the coup, but he was also one of Catherine's purported lovers.

What throws me off a lot is the choice of songs they occasionally used. The show was set in 1700, but the songs used were from 1920s and 1940s singing about the communists. that was not yet a thing back then

Favorite quote from the show: theyre like little pandas trapped in a barrel, and they all have knives and they cut each-other up rather than using the knives to cut open the barrel and run free

Elizabeth was already dead during Catherine & Peter's marriage and Grigori Orlov is her true love but the writers turned him into two different characters (Grigor and Orlo)

Women are still slender today? Do we actually know that she didnt indulge in bestiality? And work the ones that were supposedly slandering her other women?

Still peter iii was extremely abusive to Catherine in and out of the public eye. And he terrorized the members of his court. He was definitely the villain.

You are wrong about your comparisons. Peter was abused by his tutor very damaged and Catherine never was bestial. Her studs. were a series of young men.

Catherine and Peter were second cousins, so it makes sense that they'd met as children, especially if they were to be betrothed.

The show is dark and hilarious and I don't think anyone is watching it for any sort of historical accuracy.
