The biggest reason to love both series is it never shys away from emotional feeling and that's what I love about both series.
Aang losing Gyasto was heart-breaking because he didn't just lose a teacher, Aang lost a father figure. Monk Gyasto was so good to Aang; they played, Gyasto made Aang laugh when he was lonely, he even tried to protect him. Who would feel sad about that?
Jet dying was sad too. Katara hated him for how he lied to her but in the end, I saw the sadness in Katara's eyes when she last sees him. She forgave him but also, she couldn't do anything for him.
You can bet I cried when Zuko reunited with Uncle Iroh. That still hits me because Zuko did betray his Uncle and worried things won't be the same between them again. Watching Iroh hug his nephew really pulls the heart strings ten fold for me and it's a sight I'll never forget. There's one thing Uncle Iroh would never do, and that's stop loving his nephew.

Not having the Shakespearean tragedy that is Sozan giving Roku the mufassa death into the lava in the tragic episode that is the Avatar and the Firelord is well, tragic. Learning that sozan could have been killed but he didnt want to do it because they were like brothers. Then, when Sozan came, the elation in Rokus voice is palpable. So, its such a gutwrenching betrayal when he drops him off a cliff into lava. Also, fang curling up around him and essentially committing suicide because it couldnt live without him is a bonus cherry on top of this tragic episode. I really wish more people would find this episode because its my personal. Favorite.

While I agree that Korra losing her connections with her past lives is one of the most intense and emotional scenes in the series, it really annoyed me when some fans were complaining about how her uncle cheating and how literally no one expecting that was somehow her fault. Honestly who the hell expected that? That's like saying Aang is responsible for his people getting killed or that it's the Air Nomads' fault for not expecting an ambush. Unpopular opinion I thought that Korra was an awesome character and Avatar albeit a naive one from day one and I wish more of the fan base would be more unbiased

The moment I cried in TLOK was that the red lotus will kill not only Korra, but the avatar itself, When they become successful, It might not only destroy governments but also, It will release Vaatu and without the avatar, Ten thousand years of darkness will cover both the physical and the spiritual world and Zaheer would be a far worse person than Ozai and similarly worse as Unalaq.
I realized that Villains with motives but never knowing what they are truly doing is scarier than those that knew what they are doing.

Hiroshi Sato's death really hit me too. After what happened between him and Asami, I was happy she forgave him and they did share a father-daughter moment. Seeing him give his life for Asami, it's heart breaking.

What about the desert where Aang went nuts and Katara had to calm him down? Sure she was able to calm him down in the southern air temple by talking to him, but in the desert, she had to grab and hug him tight in her arms. And once he leaves the after state we can see how much he was crying. Katara was crying too. Aang for appa, and katara for aang.

Iroh truly is one of the most tragic characters. Youd never expect it from the wise old uncle but it makes him one of the greatest characters in the avatar universe. Iroh even says to Zuko that he thinks of him as his own son since he had lost his real son at Ba Sing Se. Maybe thats partly why he forgives Zuko so quickly.

while i love iroh and his redemption we do have to remember he was a general in the fire nations and esteemed one at that, meaning he fought and conquered throughout it, irohs life wasnt always good and only thought the loss of his son does he understand this and s tarts to work towards a better goal

Unpopular Opinion (which will probablt get me killed): Leaves On the Vine is nowhere near as sad as people say it is. Yeah, yeah, Iroh lost his son but we never got to see much of Irohs relationship with his son or anything like that. Its sad but come on, guys, stop exaggerating

Another honorable mention is in episode 4 when Korra breaks down and admits shes afraid to Tenzin after she was ambushed by Amon. It just felt very real to me how she was trying to show she wasnt afraid as a way to hide that she really was.

I felt a connection to #2. To me, close to death leaves Korra with PTSD. I say that because of how her behaviours mirror what happened to my military father and also myself.
