He may be goofy, but sometimes Sokka was actually brilliant on Avatar: The Last Airbender. Our countdown includes library research, saving a village of people, defending Katara, and more! What do YOU think was Sokka's smartest moment?

Other than aang being the face, and actually beating the Phoenix king, Sokka is entirely responsible for ending a 100 year war. The library was his idea, he found the library, he found the SPECIFIC INFORMATION THEY NEEDED in a library that had MOST OF THE INFORMATION EVER WRITTEN DOWN IN HISTORY, he commands the fighters from 3 nations including his own father in a mostly successful invasion (if azulla wasn't also a mega genius he would have done it, he helped invent multiple world changing techs (non bending air travel, submarines, anti naval weaponry, he constantly sees through deception and handles situations better than anyone. In only about 1 year sokka is the key reason the 100 year war ended. He was also chief Justice, so modern law is most like entirely based on his work in Korra. Best character ever, because despite that resume, he doesn't seem that competent and he never takes credit for it. Aang beat the firelord, but sokka literally stopped the destruction of the fire nation with just two other people. People that almost certainly would have died during that fight if it wasn't for him, and the only thing he could do after is congratulate aang, sokka is the best

You missed the one where Sokka uses a bunch of purple pentapi to give the villagers the look of having a disease called pentapox. Thus getting everyone out of Omashu while Aang went to find King Bumi. This happened after he had 2 pentapi on his face, and Aang had to massage them to get them off of Sokka's face. Marks were left, and Katara tells the Fire Nation soldiers Sokka has Pentapox. Playing along, Sokka acts as if he's dying from it. By doing so, the Fire Nation soldiers back off.

Aang and Zuko are both amazing characters, Katara and Toph both bring the girl power to the show, Azula is definetly everyone's love to hate villain, and Iroh is a wise old man that everyone wants as their grandpa. But Sokka is probably the most relatable character in the entire show becuase he brings the comedic relief but yet brings the great leadership that Team Avatar needed.

1 word. Submarines. It is a machine unlike the balloon that the firenation can use against them much harder. Because they would firstly have to modify it. And they would have no idea about the oxygen part. For the balloon the just needed one firebender onboard of every balloon. Making it Atleast for me a greater achievement. Because he didn't repeat the same kind of mistake

Also the reason he wrote his name with his face is that he doesn't actually know how to write his name (though he can write otherwise. And since Sokka is a Zulu name, and the show uses Chinese writing, there may not even be a canonical way to write it.
Either that, or his name has characters that relate to water and he didn't want to give himself away as water tribe.

If you look up the original unaired pilot episode, you'll see a very different Sokka, he was much more brooding and angsty (Much like his movie counterpart) but when the producers heard voice actor Jack DeSena do his vocal warm ups by performing all kinds of crazy voices, they decided to change Sokka's character to incorporate them

Sokka did NOT invent war balloons. Sokka is very smart, but he only mildly contributed to putting the finishing touches on the war balloon. A hot air balloon requires a lot more than knowing how to make a lid. Did Sokka make the steam engines? No.
I don't know why I get so upset about this.

reply

You forgot to mention how brilliant the moment was in the air balloon attacks how he successfully defended himself and Toph with one arm & on his back while keeping Toph from falling to her death. That was brilliant thinking and fighting ability to pull that off.

Not only did Sokka hit combustion man right in his third eye from a very far distance, but he did it without being able to see him. Sokka literally used the angles of where the explosions were landing to determine exactly where the third eye was. Sokka. Is. A. Genius.
reply

How bout the time he convince Aang to play on the idea that he was dead to take advantaje one the enemy not kowing he was alive.
Or the time he decided to forget about his proud and be teached by Suki and recognize her as a warrior.

reply

He Reminds Me Of Talking Ben From Talking Tom And Friends.
Don't Trust Me? I'll Prove It.
They're Both Smart, They Both Get Sarcastic At Times, They Can Be Goofy At Times, And They're Both Into Comedy. (Like, Telling Jokes)

Sokka gave me hope. I was often perceived as not very smart, but I think outside the box and come up with solutions. Now many people asking me for advice and it makes me finally feel so happy that I can help others.
reply

When sokka was on cactus juice he said the giant mushroom so he made something that can cause the giant mushroom and he made it for war and then that is how the nuclear bomb was made.
reply

This might not be Too brilliant but i think it should have at least been an honourable mention when sokka was able to ACCURATELY get an angle on Combustion man and hit him
reply

Katara: Alright, We'll Finish Our Vacations and Then We'll Look For Sokka's Intelligence
Me: You Fools! It Was in Front Of You All Along!

reply

Sokka before: Drink cactus juice, it'll quench ya, nothing's quenchier, it's the quenchiest
Sokka after: Council head of Republic City

reply

He is a non bender that makes him more skilled in things benders take for granted i actualy love the non bender characters in atla
reply

6: 31 I mean, the old man WAS an assassin from what I remember, so Jet was kinda in the right there with being careful.
reply

Plus In avatar world, Sokka Is the one who invented a airships. that later were steal by fire nation to build their air fleet.
reply

Not a brilliant idea but my favorite funny Sokka moment is Drink Cactus Juice - it's the Quenchest. Giant mushroom Cloud
reply

Comparing Saka to the main is kind of pointless. It's like comparing Goku in Dragon ballZ to any other character.
reply

Isnt the solar eclipse comparable to a full moon? So shouldnt water-benders have been turbo charged?
reply

Everyone thinks Toph is the best character in ATLA. I love Toph, but honestly I love Sokka a little more
