I agree with almost everything in this list excepted the murder thing. I'm sorry but this isn't supposed to be normal in the show, whereas innappropriate relationships and cliques are meant to be normal. Sometimes the killings make sense and can be interesting if well written.
Elements of a story doesn't have to be realistic AT ALL. It's kinda double standardy that we get angry over a romanticized quick paced romanced because it's unrealistic but we do not get pissed at people having superpowers? Like what? Is this realistic? No. The thing is every element in a story has to be coherent with the univers the events are taking place in. Disney princess fall in love at first sight? Fine. It's coherent withing their universe. Edward is a vampire? Fine. It is coherent within the universe they're in. A series of outstanding events are taking place in Jane The Virgin? Fine because it is a freakin TELENOVELA.

Gossip girl is suppose to be unrealistic. For one they are all super rich and famous social-lights with unlimited amount of money. if you're rich and famous Gossip girl is Basically a reality show for the rich and famous And when you grow up rich you're told from a young age that you're supposed to get in an Ivy League school. When your parents are rich they make donations to the schools so they're own kids get accepted. Yes for people who aren't rich it seems unbelievable. But when you are rich you have the world at your finger tips. With money you can get cosmetic surgery to make yourself look perfect because you can. Thats why Paris Hilton looks the way she does and Kylie Jenner. Gossip girl is unrealistic if you're not born rich. Dan had it right you can't buy you're self into high society, you have to be born into it

I don't wear makeup cause it mess up my skin (which is really bad already. and yes i hve tried to make it better but nothing works) and i am well into adulthood. i don't even know how to wear it the few times i had to wear it for social circumstances. and i think i look like a 13 year old clown in it and my moles are accented by it making me look even worse. Watching all those shows favouring makeup since childhood is really akward. on the one hand i really wish someone had helped me understand make up when I was young (wait I had no friends to help me with that. maybe that's the reason) or better skin. Now i am not willing to spend copious ammounts of money to fail anyways or to get skinrashes out of it

Well i get what your saying but i wouldn't want these shows to be to realistic or i would just shut off my tv and watch my own family and thats not very entertaining. But i would like it to be semi-realistic. Most of the ones you pointed out sounded a bit of nit picking. like how old the actors and actresses are that are years older than the character they are playing. Well for one thing real teenagers to play the part are harder to find because of school. I personally am glad real teenager to play the part of a teen on the show because they need to be in school not spending their time studing a script and the time to shoot a scene. When would they have time to go to school.

lol I never really understood the teens dating teachers one tbh lol. most of our teachers were like in their late 30's-early 40's usually if not older and were already married and had kids. One exception was this one English teacher we had junior year. A lot of the guys wanted to get with her (not me lol just some of the others) and a couple even hit on her in class. She was very professional, though, would give those guys nothing more than a write up, and the only romantic relationship she entered was with one of the math teachers at the school (they got married after I graduated I think they might have kids now)

Teachers doing things that are inappropriate and not getting any consequences. This was frequently shown on Glee with Sandy Ryerson who was fired for assaulting a student but yet still performs in Wills acapella group & who Sue hires him to be an arts administrator jobs, various teachers have relationships with students & how Sue Sylvester was a big bully to not only students but also to Mr. Schuester.

gilmore girls more realistic than other teen series in my opinion. we can see rory and paris arguing about school stuff, rory style is ordinary as teenage student, their problem close to realistic about school, college, friendship, argue with parent. rory and lorelai doesn't have much money so this is why I love gilmore girls than other teen series

This is why Stranger Things is a good show. It has actual teens playing the correct age not to mention the adults date each other and the teens do the same, instead of some 30 year old dating a 16 year old. Plus because it's supernatural the danger make sense. Also considering all this happens over summer break it doesn't affect their school work

one thing you mentioned but i just wanted to expand upon, that makes no sense to me as it relates to highschool drama shows is the fact that the students arent asked to participate in group discussions/debates prompted by the teacher. or they arent shown any students who are interested in actually learning in a school environment.

I can agree with the statement about the actors being older than the character they play. They usually are in their early 20's. Yet I can think of one example where in a teenage show an actress was under the age of her fictional, this character was 15, and the actress was 13. Sasha Pieterse who played Alison on pll.

When I watched gossip girl as adult I could not understand how the 14-17 year old kids get alcohol in clubs or bars without any problems in bloody America where 21 is the legal limit. I understand the forest parties like in vampire diaries but places that can loose their liquor license if they serve minors, no way.

I can't help but notice how all of these shows are millennial. I think you should pay more attention to newer teen shows. Now that's unrealistic! Because, if Euphoria portraits real teenagers, then we have a bigger problem than musicians coming to town.

As a high school teacher now, I can't enjoy these shows like I did when I was a high schooler. It's so grossly unrealistic and the normalization of criminal teacher/student relationships as described in the list make me feel sick to my stomach.

Its funny, there are some high schools that allow casual clothing but they do have a dress code anyway. It wouldnt be weird to see somebody wearing a regular T-shirt or jeans, but runway like clothing? No.

My #1 issue is that no one on any teen show is every interested in being a scientist/doctor/engineer or anything in a STEM field (or even really a lawyer. The smartest kid usually becomes a famous author.

What gets me, is that sometimes the main character and their friends will miss days of a class or school altogether for days on end and no one notices. My mom would have lost it if I skipped school.

The only teen show that accurately portrayed parents imo is Boy Meets World. Cory and I can't think of his brothers name's parent's were actually amazing and took very good care of their kids.

These shows dont reflect real life at least not for me. Most high school experiences are nothing like this unless if you live in high privileged community and go to fancy private schools

Unplanned pregnancies', teens sometimes make mistakes or forgo the protection. Bodies! And people with disabilities. We get actors to act but not people with the said disabilities.

Student-teacher relationships are probably the most accurate. Before the pandemic forced most kids home, there was a inappropriate relationship news alert every other month

Come on, watching boring workdays isn't interesting. School, homework, uniform - children have all this in their everyday life and wanna see something different than this routine.

It's like people forget tv shows are fiction and made to entertain. No one wants to see a regular looking teen character. If you want that just go to a regular high school.

This is why I love Heartstopper so much. Pretty much none of the things on this list are present in that show, and this really helps to make it feel new and fresh.

The most realistic teen show ive ever seen was Degrassi. And even that pushed it but that was bc they were tryna fit as many real life talking points as possible.
