Let's not forget Brigadoon, with Cyd Charisse and Gene Kelly. Also the end scene of Flashdance, that shows how someone who loves Ballet so much can do anything and everything to reach out for dancing. Of course, in this case, the main character played by Jennifer Beals who cannot get the whole credit, was played by three different performer: There were two female body doubles doing the job, one of them a gymnast, and the third one, a male professional dancer who doubled for Jennifer Beals during the iconic audition doing the breakdancing elements of the routine which were too difficult to the other dancers to perform. All three in one. Now that's Ballet! Way too hard to the point that one alone cannot make it to the end. Unless you are a Margot Fonteyn, or Alicia Alonso. but those were actually Divas on stage, real life stars, one or two of a kind around the globe! ;)

the very best szene of any dancemovie is the opening szene ofwhite nights where mikhail baryshnikov dances a szene from le jeune homme et la mort not the szene with g. hines 2. from the same movie capricious horses and than there is a big gap between him and the rest of the list! and please: just real dancers not some actors with some gymnastic skills and 27 cuts p/min that it looks like dancing! to become a real dancer you need 15-20 years of hard work and you are still not famous.

Do you know what a step is? It is a series of different movements. Some of the movies you picked did nothing but editing. They showed the beginning the middle, then the end. That is why the old movies with dances in them were so much better. They showed the whole sequence plus the body. You should have forgotten some of the modern movies and added movies like Oklahoma, in which people were really dancers.
reply

Excuse me but we are not giving Natalie Portman the credit for the dancing in Black Swan. She spent 6 months training. That's it. SHE HAD A DANCE DOUBLE, PEOPLE! All credit for the intricate dancing should go to the professional dancer who danced those scenes. SARAH LANE FROM AMERICAN BALLET THEATER NOT NATALIE PORTMAN. Giving Natalie credit for all of that makes a mockery of ballet.
reply

To include so little actual ballet performances and to not include all of the actual dancers who performed as doubles and if youre going to do dance why not include The Nicholas brothers is trashy and if its just ballet to not include Misty Copeland from The Four Realms Nutcracker movie? yall are either racist or you just have your thumbs up your asses
reply

Fred and Rita in You Were Never Lovlier dancing to I'm Old Fashioned is poetry in motion, so beautiful that Jerome Robbins created a ballet after that sequence. Not to mention Shorty George. And the barn building/destroying dance in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has never been equalled. And Singing' in the Rain? Too many dance numbers to mention.
reply

Where is the ballet? Very little of it. Mao's Last Dancer and Red Shoes. but you missed Turning Point, Tales of Hoffman, iconic Limelight, Six Weeks and others and Black Swan is the worst so called ballet movie I have seen. And hip-hop is NOT ballet and just because ballerina spins on a rope you can't call it ballet, it's circus acrobatics
reply

Please don't insult the lifetime of dedication to ballet of Natalie Portman's dance double. Portman learned enough to do the close ups and enough for them to edit her features where needed. Unsubscribing and not watching another one of your videos until you correct this and apologize. There's no excuse
reply

Ballet Numbers that you missed:
At The Ballet A Chorus Line
Audition Dance Flashdance
Dream Ballet Oklahoma
Louises Ballet Carrousel
Any of these should have been in Black Swans spot no matter how good of a job Natalie Portman did. Sorry Emily!

The Dancer has real ballet scenes from Giselle, and Baryshnikov dancing them. Brigadoon has The Heather on the Hill, with a somewhat ballet like sequence for Cyd Charisse and Gene Kelly. The American in Paris Ballet includes some ballet, but more jazz/tap.
reply

Half of the pics on the list didn't match the video description. Ballet is not jazz, ballroom or tap. Just because the character is a ballerina doesn't mean it qualifies either. Edit the title or consult a dance professional first next time.

MY FAVORITES:
Prologue - West Side Story
Senior Showcase - Step Up
The American in Paris Ballet - An American in Paris
Dance Battle - Leap!
Julliard Audition - Save the Last Dance
The Full Transformation - Black Swan

reply

Not gonna lie, since Leap was included I'm kinda sad that the barbie swan lake adaptation movie didnt get an honorable mention at least. The animation with the ballet dances are so beautiful.
reply

The studio routine with Misha and Leslie Browne is Romeo and Juliet. Its a classic. Its everything. Its the best Kenneth MacMillan choreographeddo better research. Pay respect. Seriously.
reply

Cyd Charisse was a classically trained Ballerina. Why wasn't her ballet performance in The Band Wagon not featured? Or even her ballet performance in The Ziegfeld Follies (1946?
reply

Moira Shearer was a great ballerina of her time of the English school. The Red Shoes is a nonsense movie but worth watching over and over to see this beauty in action
reply

She was bad, she was dangerous'! OMG Thank you for showing me Michael Jacksons influence! To the lyrics to the videos and dance choreos he loved musicals!
reply

5: 26 This film is 80s movie 1985 white nights and godzilla 85's in toho. That was shaddy 80s critic film is box office. music is score composer rock 80s.
reply

Wait a minute! What about Leslie Caron! She and Fred Astaire were AWESOME in Daddy Long Legs! Once again, where is Vera-Ellen? Huh? Also High Strung.
reply

Here is some hip hop meets ballet. No, they're wearing character shoes and doing a jazz number with Channing Tatum break dancing in the middle.
reply

the narrator clearly knows extremely little to nothing about ballet or dance. as a dancer i could tell she was making things up about the clips.
reply

There were a lot of scenes mentioned but a lot were not ballet! More like jazz and tap. some of the worthy mentions had more ballet in them.
reply

Never been able to dance lol no beat! But gosh I love all the dance movies! Musicals too! But cant sing worth lick! But still love them all!
reply

Black Swan does not belong in the list. Portman had a stunt double, a professional ballerina did the difficult moves but not the credit.
reply

Center stage hands down the reason why I loved ballet so much. Soundtrack had variety from chili peppers to MJ end with Jamiroquai
reply

See Antonio Gades; Blood Wedding. Puredance ala ballet to tell a story with flaminco music and dance. Christina Hoyas is fantastic.
reply

Black Swan should not be in the list because even though Natalie Portman did a great Job acting, her dance is not good enough.
reply

The high-strung series was completely missed, and both movies have epic ballet scenes I'd rank higher than some in this list.
reply

Weird that scenes with non ballet made the list but scenes with ballet are in the honorable mentions.
Y'all messed up.

reply

Hey watchmojo, here's some advice, just cause there's a turn and a pointed foot doesn't mean it's ballet. Sincerely, a dancer
