The fact that Jerry, the father had to give up being the family wizard after he marries a mortal, Theresa is similar to the 1950s play and movie Bell, Book and Candle where if a witch falls in love she loses her magical powers. Also the principal of Tribeca Prep, Mr. Laritate sounds like Larry Tate who was Darren Stephen's boss in the 1960s TV show Bewitched.

Since Disney has been aging down the casting to 12 year olds, since 2017, there hasn't been as many adult jokes in their shows.
Edit: to be absolutely fair, Sydney to the Max, Secrets of Sulphur Springs, Raven's Home and the animated shows are the only shows I watch. Maybe there are adult jokes in the shows I don't watch
